So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.
I have a Daikin and I love it. I also had an older Mitsubishi before and that was good too but I prefer the Daikin. I'm not in the US though. There's also a top of the range Daikin called Ururu Sarara here in Europe (not sure if available in the US, but in Australia I understand is knows as Daikin US7) that is way above the top-of-the-line Mitsu both in performance/features and price so I'm not sure if Toyota of the ACs designation is really appropriate ;)
It depends on how often you use the system. Usually 20 seer is that standard for high efficiency. You aren’t going to get much savings going above 20 seer. The 33 seer units are significantly more expensive so you probably won’t get the savings back.

I don't use inverter airconditioners, they are for people with deep pockets. Mine are two 12k btu homemade systems made from General and Samsung outside unit and two dual zone airhandlers made by Fujitsu.

You usually can’t purchase a name brand product unless you are a contractor. Most states require an EPA license to handle refrigerant. If you purchase it yourself, you should secure an installer first. You don’t want to purchase equipment and not have anyone willing to install it.
LG and Samsung are one step below the Japanese producers. They're pretty good in overall quality (especially LG with it's dual inverter series) but are not on par with a Daikin or a Mitsubishi. Below the Korean producers you've got the various China-based producers which boil down to 3-4 big corporations changing stickers: Midea, Haier, Gree and Hisense. Out of the 4, Hisense has by far the worst build quality, Haier isn't terribly well known but I heard it does do the job fairly nicely, Midea's pretty good but the quality can vary wildly. That leaves Gree which has a pretty damn big offering of air-cons, with the Amber Premium being one of the best heating choices if available on the market.

For the US, you need to talk with your HOA first before you can do a project since they have their own requirement. The indoor units is around 25 decibels and the outdoor unit is around 45 decibels. So the noise is more quiet than the ambient noise.

Breh. Daikin and Mitsubishi are the golden standard when it comes to ACs. If you need a good AC to cool and have the money to eke out, either of them is the right choice. Fujitsu is also pretty good but I've heard their most recent series aren't as good as they used to be. Out of the non-Japanese companies I have to give a shout-out to Gree, their Amber Premium /Ultra model is the air-con of choice when it comes to year-round use (it's a European model so it's not available in America and elsewhere AFAIK). Heats like a boss, cools like a boss and the finish is almost on par with the Japanese models, all while costing around the average price for an entry-level Japanese model.
Fujitsu is the worst!!!!! I put in a three room ceiling mount mini split it has had to have gas twice per year every year and the ceiling units leak the gas out. And they will do nothing to fix or reimburse. JUST DON’T BUY IT.
I have 2 Fujitsu Halcyon units, 18K and 24K bought and installed in February 2009. Concrete house in the Caribbean. Both exterior compressor units mounted on the concrete rooftop of the property, exposed to the elements 24/7 and have been through 4 big hurricanes in the last 10 years. It is July 04, 2023. Both units are still running like day one. Never had to repair them. Just regular maintenance and replacing the outside line covers (black foam that disintegrates with time). I've recovered my investment 10 times over by now and they are 19 SEER for the 18K and 18 SEER for the 24K. Fujitsu is not the worst. Maybe your maintenance was not the best, maybe your installer was not the best, maybe your unit had a flaw. Don't over generalize. Your problem sounds like a poor installation job on the joints for the separate distribution units. Be less passionate/personal about judging a problem and more objective.
Yeah, heard they've went to shit in the last couple years. Heard people are heavily complaining about bad smells coming from the indoor unit and the cooling/heating capacity leaving a lot to be desired. It seems to a thing with their R32 models too, the 410A models are far better at just about all the basic characteristics than the newer units.
Once he said the Mitsubishi mini split is like the rolls Royce and the daikin is the Toyota I understood perfectly

If the the expensive unit is so much more efficient than the others seems like you would recover the higher cost in lower operation cost.

Daikin and Mitsubish are crap... they last for 5-10 years before the outside unit fails or rots. Fujitsu is good.
