Thank you for serving. We have been watching and enjoying WS since your very early days. I also think it's great that the Coast Guard allows you to put out these videos of your work while on duty. It seems like a great recruiting tool. Keep up the good work!

One thing I have always appreciated about you and Kate’s videos is their overall vibe. Content, editing, music all contribute so well. Thanks for posting and sharing. Hazy where I live in PA too.
Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!
What you need to do oil changes is a 12v oil change pump. The oil level should go down a bit when the filter fills up, but I usually put a little in the filter and let it soak in before I put it on my m25xp. Not too much as they go on sideways. I got a quote for 5k to replace with a Nanni 14hp on my Cat 30 so I'm going that route. The fuel mileage should be amazing with a 3 blade feathering prop. Motor sailing will rock too! I opted for the weaker engine and a more efficient prop rather than a new 20+ hp. Also for those but splices I've switched to the marine heat shrink connectors where the ends glue themselves to the wire too and keep out moisture. Gotta say the group looks pretty terrific in their uniforms. Tell that one guy to get some shoes that will hold a shine tho...
Nice upgrades all around sounds great, let me know how it is. I just bought some heat shrink I'll put it on soon. I think I replaced that somewhere in the abacos and was scrounging just to get that thing operating was lucky to have a spare fuse and supplies were limited at the time, she was hauled out a couple days after being back in the states so was not a pressing matter at the time.
My rule of thumb is to fill any marine engine oil 2/3rds full that way you have space to make up oil. I would most definitely take some oil out of there. Also in the last video I seen you changed your fuel water separator and id recommend when you do that to put a light coat of grease on the o ring rather than fuel. There are some orings that do swell when fuel hits them.
that's the best practice, I put in like 3.8 liters I believe she takes 4.3. When I ran her to the mooring ball the other day I checked and it was sitting just right at the fill line. That grease is a good call that thing was hard to take off (4 hands and full strength)
@@WickedSalty there was a really good outboard mechanic that I worked with that had a saying "grease is your friend". And since working around salt water now for awhile I have to agree with him. Grease can make the difference between getting something off easy or it being hard.
Definitely had the bar-b-que smell in Milford (CT) last week. There was a Coast Guard boat cruising Milford Harbor on Saturday 6/10. Was wondering if you were aboard. You'll get better mileage out of butt connectors (especially in the bilge) if you use the heat shrink tube type. Expensive from West Marine but you can get them online for less. You can also use a non-insulated butt connector and your own shrink tubing. They'll last pretty much forever if done right.
I got some shrink tubing gonna do it right, west marine is crazy over priced. Milford is just out of our area of responsibility, STA New Haven has that covered.
.... Penticton is a bomber base, water bomber that is. On occasion so far this year the mountain tops lining the valley have had smoke haze. Last summer also was not bad but the three summers before that there were times when you could not see the sign of the car dealership two blocks away. We have had times where the wind would shift and we would have clear blue skies. Then there have been the times when the wind shifted and we would get the smoke from the Washington state fires, so there was no reprieve. Some even just call summer fire season in the Smokanagan. We are in the Okanagan Valley that extends down into Washington State. Iron Man, the triathlon race which is the last weekend in August has been canceled on several occasions because of the detriments of smoke inhalation. Keeping fingers crossed there will be no fire season this years. Has a huge effect on the tourist industry here. Winter population 35,000, peak summer 75,000. As you can tell major part of the economy. ..... Ok enough already ..... good ob on the shoes ... as always .. never stop dreaming, ust dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
What?!? No shrink tube? For shame, lol. & no life jackets in the dinghy... I'm in W Mich, on the east shore of the pond (lol), the weather systems have kept the majority of the smoke well east of here, but still makes for some pretty sunsets... Enjoy! Thanx !
Hey Wes, I know it can get messy, but I would typically fill the filter with some oil, and then very rapidly try to attach it, so it doesn’t leak. Again, I know this can get messy, but it may help you avoid the issue of the oil level being a bit over. also, as an aside, thanks for serving in the US Coast Guard, the coolest uniformed service in my humble opinion! 🫡 🇺🇸
@WickedSalty we ended up stopping in Northport for fuel and stayed the day. Tried to poke our nose out yesterday and decided we'd wait for more favorable weather, so we're her till Friday. Its a boat. Worse yet, its a connection in a bilge. Heat shrink connectors only. Old connector didnt go bad - the wire got wet and corroded. Always happens when not heat shrinked.
Those butt connectors, I always use a product nicknamed bearshit, an antioxidant which will help prevent those nasty corrosion problems. I am sure you have that product there at your work.

As usual awesome video you inspired me to cruise full time. I hope our paths cross eventually.
Thank you for your service.

Check compression and maybe de-carb the rings and cyinders with a seafoam treatment on the outboard. Those rings get build up on old motors....
I’ll probably hit the sea foam treatment coming up!
We'll be going by northport tomorrow. Maybe we'll see you out on the water. Hopefully in your sailboat and not a CG boat.
Been doing some shore side work not a lot of sailing yet, hopefully you had a good sail out there its been nice lately.

What size(HP) Johnson outboard is that?

When were you at A school? I think we might have been at similar times. I was there in early 2021
I was there feb 2022
Need to upgrade to those Corframs, no more polishing needed!
you're right, probably a good idea!
take out a little bit now is my vote
Hey Wes, nice video, as usual, we always enjoy watching. Sent you an email about a raw water pump for ya.
