    I love Genesis … and I feel sorry for the misguided narcissists who feel the need to criticize them. That band has given us so much depth of joy and passion. The result is not measured by a weak voice or a poor sound mix … the reward is in the songs and in the connection.

    Hard song. Phil handled it well. Love him forever. He gave so much to music for many years.

    It hurts seeing Phil performing despite the issues of health one gets as we grow older. I know he suffers from tinnitus (that I have also) which is a musician's curse, but his voice hasn't changed, he still sounds glorious and he could still play drums - I'm betting, though probably advised not to by his doctor. What a legend! Not to mention Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks - another couple of music legends!

    We were at the first Birmingham concert, after seeing genesis many times over the years this one was different but still good. Poor Phil was like a lost sole struggling through but the rest of the band were solid. The real star of the show was Nic Collins & his great drumming, man can he hit those skins hard. Can't believe we will hear any more from genesis in this form but I hope so. Nic will go onto great bands in the future I'm sure 👍

    I like the new special effect they had on this tour: "The Elephant in the room". Probably inspired by Pink Floyds flying pig.

    I don´t know what criticism with this concert has to do with narcism!? I really lack the psycho-pathological foresight. I don't want to go into the Collins, Banks and Rutherford era at all, but if you want to experience a worthy treatment of the genesis legacy, you should listen to Steve Hackett´s Genesis Revisited seconds out. This is music in perfection, in a way not even the original could achieve. In contrast, this seems like the performance of a high school band and sorry, this has nothing to do with narcism.

    Phil's voice was just so terrible and way off key, as I witnessed first hand when I was there for the very last show ever, at the O2. It was a sad comedown from the raw excitement of seeing them for the first time at Knebworth in June 1978. But at least I have that very clear memory of seeing them at their height.

    Steve hackett’s band elevate this music,just sounds flat here.

      It has to do with they way it was recorded. Sounds much better in person. I was there in "Long Island" eg Queens New York. Phil's vocals weren't always perfect, but it wasn't that bad. His son did a GREAT job on the drums. I am hoping they will release this concert tour on DVD.
      Yes Steve's band does all the older music way better. Sadly, I will miss him on this tour (unless I win the lottery tonight) Hopefully they will be back on this side of the pond again in a year or so.

      @@hvfd5956 Has absolutely nothing to do with the way it was recorded. By flat, it means that vocal tracks were lowered a few semitones (to accommodate Phil's diminished vocal range) and the effect was that all vocal tracks sounded leaden.

      @@hvfd5956 This concert is also bad musically. Absolutely terrible. @ Michael Jones is right. Steve Hackett´s second out. The best rock music I´ve ever heard, these guys are outstanding After Hackett is gone there was really only mainstream. Good ones, but somehow mainstream.

      I went to say goodbye to the band, I knew what to expect. I loved the old instrumentals tony and mike played.

    • @VickersDoorter
      @VickersDoorter 2 роки тому +3

      Saw them on the last night at the O2. Instrumentally very good, but most songs were lowered key-wise to accommodate Phil's weak voice, which made them sound laboured and funereal. I don't intend to buy a DVD/CD. It would be just a sad reminder of how much his singing ability has diminished.

      @@VickersDoorter Thanks for confirming. Phil Collins is so frail it was a surprise this farewell concert happened at all tbh. It's very sad that it's all over and the end of such a long and brilliant era. Genesis was the soundtrack to so many peoples lives including mine, but at least Steve Hackett is keeping the wonderful Genesis music alive and bringing it to new audiences, and Peter Gabriel is still going strong !

      I can sort of agree and disagree. For me, someone who has grown up with this band for over 40 years but never got a chance to see them live. I would have went. Sadly they couldn’t do west coast dates. I’d see them even like this because there will never be another chance. But I also say to the ones who has seen them before it’s better that they didn’t because they got to see a true Genesis show. There is nothing like seeing Phil on the drums. To those who has seen them before there final tour. Cherish those memories. For me it’s only what is recorded. Makes me sad.
