Also, if you have a newer car the solar charger may not charge the battery through the lighter socket if the car is turned off, so you’ll have to connect the solar charger directly to your car’s battery (cables are included). I show how to in one of my older videos, thanks for the support!

I’ve always used the Battery Tender to maintain your battery if your battery is sitting for a long time. I have a show car and it sits in the garage all winter. The battery tender keeps the battery topped off without overcharging. I also have two deep cycle batteries that go in my 32 Ft fifth wheel camp trailer. I remove them before storing the camper, put them in the garage and use one Battery Tender to keep them topped off when you use cables to hook the batteries in series. These batteries typically last for six years when the batteries in my truck and car only last 4 1/2 to 5 years. I live in Wyoming and we don’t have as many clear sky days where Scotties solar charger is in use. The Battery Tender use 110volt house current and are very reliable. I’ve never had one fail in the past 15 years.

I have a Solar car battery charger . It works on older GM cars but not on Japanese cars because the ' cigarette ' lighter is not on without the key on or on accessory mode .
If your cig lighter doesnt work unless the key is on , these chargers wont work unless you keep it directly connected to the battery ( not the cig lighter socket )
Connect it and put a voltmeter on your battery and you can see whether or not its charging .

Get one of those memory savers that attach to the OBD2 port, connect the solar panel to the memory saver, preferably by hard wiring it via solder (or a crimp if you can't solder), that way there are fewer connectors. This will allow you to connect to the battery via a fused connection that is on all the time. I personally took off all my proprietary connectors and that SAE connector and replaced them all with XT60 connectors because they were cheaper than everything else and have real male and female ports so they cannot be hooked backwards. Then I made an adapter from XT60 to OBD2 and now all my chargers, maintainers and solar maintainers can just hook to any car made in the last few decades. Plus XT60 connectors and equipment using them are available in a lot of hobby stores should I need something and am away from home.

I have a ‘98 Jeep GC that has some random electrical issue, so if I don't drive the vehicle every week the batter goes dead. 😢This sounds like a great temporary fix until we can figure out what the gremilin electrical issue is… plus we just bought a 20’ enclosed trailer and this would be a great idea to attach one of these to the trailer to keep the tiny battery charged so we will always have lights and keep the battery charged so when we are using this over the next few months to move across country, it will stay charged… Thank You again Scotty for another great tip.

You might have to register the Luckeep e-bike as a motorcycle in the state where I live. There’s a 750 Watt (~1 HP) limit on the assist motor and speed limit of 20 MPH without pedal assist. You might find yourself in a Catch-22 because the state won’t license vehicles without VINs in the standard format (unless you have an old car like I do, from before standardized VINs). Of course you could just go ahead and ride and as long as you aren’t a jerk in traffic probably no cop is going to hassle you about your bike.
Riding that little Luckeep 30 MPH must be pretty interesting. I’ve ridden my 27 inch pedal powered road bike just over 30 MPH and it was pretty hairy.

unfortunately my state has some ebike regulations. The state of Washington (WA) defines electric bicycles as “electric-assisted bicycles.” The electric bike must have two or three fully operational pedals for human propulsion and the electric motor must be no more than 750 W. Electric bicycles are classified as Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 as defined below:
Class 1 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 mph.
Class 2 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor may be used exclusively to propel the bicycle and is not capable of providing assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 mph.
Finally, Class 3 electric-assisted bicycle means an electric-assisted bicycle in which the motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 28 mph and is equipped with a speedometer.
we also have many citys that have ebike regualtions.

The USB type A port on the back of the light is likely for charging your phone off the light's battery. You just plug your phone's USB cord into that port like you would to charge your phone off a USB wall charger or your laptop. The smaller USB port back of the light is usally for recharging the battery in the light after.

Nine years ago, I replaced the battery in my van and installed a small solar panel on the roof. The panel is hardwired into the back of an existing 12 v dc auxiliary outlet at the back interior of the van. Nine years later and the battery operates the same as the day it was installed. Battery has never failed to start the vehicle, has never discharged, has never been boosted and consistently measures 12.8 Volts. Brush the snow off the panel in winter when your cleaning off the rest of the vehicle and no other maintenance required.

As to the solar charger I have a question: Some, perhaps all of the Japanese cars I've driven have 12 V outlets that won't supply power without key in place. In other words, the power supply is turned off (apparently to save battery).
So, it seems that a solar charger, plugged to an interrupted circuit, can't put power to the battery. In other words, what's the benefit of a solar charger?
    Am I missing something?

If that electric bike frame were Titanium it would have a weight and strength advantage. --- One might consider making some kind of snap, clip-on or Velcro connectable red lens set up if you intend to have it flashing in the back of your car. The brightness of the light, against a bright day, may not be seen until you are right on the car.

The problem with the bike is that depending on where you live, if an electric bicycle can go as fast as 30Mph on the throttle alone without pedaling, then it's legally no longer an 'electric bicycle' and you're going to need to register it. You then will of course also need to have a driver's license and insurance to ride it on a road.

It's interesting to me how many Chinese products have no brand name. When one considers the size of the Chinese economy one would expect many household brands but that is not the case. I think it's cultural. I remember reading an article in the 80's about a Chinese refrigerator company that was producing poor quality products. The government was upset about this and so they took the company management outside and executed them in front of all the employees. Anybody want to be CEO? Do you want a well known brand name that can easily be tracked? Yeah, there's a reason for a lack of brand names.

All new cars have a parasitic power draw even when they're off. Old cars don't have computers and stuff to keep powered. Old cars you put the key in the mechanical door lock where new cars leave a radio receiver turned on at all times to listen for the key fob signal to come so it can open the door using an electric solenoid... or maybe even start the car. More to go wrong in my opinion. Can you overcharge your battery with that solar thing? Perhaps...
