Ok so the biggest changes coming to this channel are good things, imo, lol - First, the most important (so obviously i forgot to mention it in the original filming session) is that I'm switching my upload days to Thursday. This is for one big reason and that is so I can start taking proper weekends off. So I will no longer be doing Sunday releases, but this should also make it a bit "easier" for me to do weekend livestreams if I want to, etc.
Which is another thing I want to do more of - livestreaming! I meant to start this in 2022, but w/ the move that did not happen, so here's to livestreaming in 2023!
And while I'm not going to focus on sewing content on this channel as much as I used to (I just need a break tbh) - we will still be making, exploring, experimenting, and creating together, which is really what I enjoy and I hope you all enjoy as well.
So here's to conscious creation in 2023, live streams, and new upload days! If you're reading this I also want to say thank you so much for your support and viewership and comradery over the past few years. I literally wouldn't be here without you. ♥

❤ 8:45 pm finally took a few minutes to rest and watch UA-cam. This was the video I needed! Abby I didn’t realize how much I missed you and your humor. Last year I was diagnosed with cancer. I’ve got too much to do to let it get in the way. I would love to chat sometime. I didn’t realize how stifled I was in a corporate job, and my creativity had died. We have several mutual friends too. If you message me an email I’d be glad to share more. I’m so thankful I had you during my treatments and my surgeries and healing during 2021-2022. I totally understand where you are coming from. I have a child’s winter out fit from early 1900’s…thought you might have an interest in seeing it. Blessings for a new year for both of us.
Definitely not fired. Sweet human, realness and people living with intention is what we want to see. Not just doing because one can or feeling obligated to, but because you really want to be doing that thing. Whether that be gardening, sewing, painting walls, essays, historical garment investigations or collabs, I am sure to be here for it all. I'd rather support a person honestly crafting their life than something that makes you miserable. You're a wonderful bright light and thank you for everything you've given us thus far. Being depressed is like being in a room with dirty windows, you don't know how bad it is until someone or something cleans them off and lets in the light.
It happens differently for each person, but when it happens it is glorious and freeing. I'm so very glad you've found a way to let in the light.
Now let's start making beautiful spaces and things!

The window screens of my bedroom at my parent's house were never taken down to be cleaned. Let's just say I was way too old to realize it was time I do it *for me* 😤

They were shocked when I gave 10 days notice that I was moving out. 2020 did something to all of us.
Gray on walls actually makes me seriously depressed. not a little, hard core depresses me.

@@AbbyCox Actually I wondered if that was a frustration for you... gray walls when you're struggling with an already gray mood probably amplified any negative feelings. It sounds crazy, but when I lived in Tucson I could viscerally FEEL all the needles and spines of the cacti around me. I did NOT feel comfortable in the environment - because I was in such a dark place mentally and emotionally.
My apartment is all grey/taupe kinda and it's just dead and lifeless looking. It sucks the energy out of a space.
I only finally had enough energy and hung up curtains this year (we moved in 2020) and when we put up holiday lights I realized how badly I want color in the space. It makes the depression I struggle with worse, no bullshit.
Grey might sell houses but this utilitarian everything, modern design philosophy is doing nothing for my mental health.
@@AbbyCox - When we moved into our house 1-1/2 years ago, I hated that EVERYTHING was grey, even the flooring. But we rent and our lease says that we cannot change anything. So, now I hunger for color as I can afford it - framed art, bright silk drapes, antique Middle Eastern carpets, reupholstering. It helps.
I’m excited to see what colours you paint your house! In my childhood home, the walls were yellow, my parents bathroom was red orange and yellow, my sister’s bedroom was bubblegum pink, my room was this amazing purple, and the “bonus room” was orange. It was so amazing to grow up in such a colourful space. Needless to say, I died inside when we had to repaint the entire house beige in order to sell it.
Grey is what they are making everyone paint their home when they sell it, and I think it's more because it's neutral and easier to imagine your own stuff in a space that has no personality then because it's trendy
I'm convinced the only reason I got mine was because the main living space was pink and wine, and the only white walls in the entire house are a room in the basement. Honestly only repainted one room, which was way too small for a very cloying, fleshy peach color that clashed with the floor and other permanent elements.
Edit: the other rooms/hallways are all different colors, but I think the copious dusty rose scared off a lot of people
@@bellablue5285 when house hunting, I never even looked at anything 'turn key ready'. I knew that it wouldn't be that for me so I would be paying for their work that I would then want to change, only I didn't want to squander $ and environmental impact so I would try to live with their work.
I've always found it easier to imagine my own stuff in a house with colours because either I like it and could move straight in, or I didn't and it forced me to think about what I would do instead. All grey, white or beige houses just look dead to me.
I’m glad you’ve recognized the need to make these changes for yourself and your channel. Content creators need to under that they also need a work/life balance and not kill themselves trying to maintain an upload schedule that isn’t realistic. I don’t comment much but I love this channel and your personality so I’m excited for what 2023 will bring!🎉❤
I know that your essays or lectures are time-consuming but they are really enjoyable. You can tell how much time and effort you put into them. As far as your creative projects around your house that sounds wonderful.

I had the major life change of becoming a mom and realizing I could not both be my baby's primary caretaker and the family's primary earner without wanting to drive my car into a tree. I hope I manage to navigate working (at a paid job) fewer than 40 hours per week since 2014 as well as you managed moving cross country while running your own business and completing home renovation.
I love that you are changing your upload day so you can have a more "normal" work schedule. I am a stay-at-home wife (kids are grown), but I still work 9 to 5 on my household projects and leave evenings/weekends free for family time. P.S. the puppers are absolutely adorable and the doggy burp made me giggle.
I vote for Scheele's green somewhere!! Also, I'm with you for painting and leaning into COLOR. It seems like if we own a house the living area becomes a beautiful soft green, the bedrooms go a soft, misty blue, the girls' room becomes this awesome pinky-purple shade called Magical, and hubby's spaces stay rental white... sigh.
Oh lord I feel your white/grey. My place rn is that way and we’re painting. It takes a while to find what works for you and for me I need the “creepy antique seller in a kids film” level of color, lighting, and junk to feel at peace. Thanks to goodwill for helping me fill my home ❤😂 I’m happy my husbands able to meet me halfway with my chaos.
Our living room is soft green, bedroom; misty blue, 2nd bedroom; soft pink.
hubby's space...you guessed it...rental white. but at least our front/back doors are sunshine yellow! We painted about 5/6 years ago. must be catching....

I'd love to see more of the antique garments! Also totally appreciate your ongoing choice to not be Miss Instagram Perfection; no one actually lives that life (when people who are too good at faking it, I always assume they have enormous trust funds) and it's helpful to the rest of us to see how creative work, whether sewing or whatever passes, through the struggle stage to look good in the end.

If we're your boss then I'll say this as a boss. You can't work hard if you don't take rest. I fully support you taking weekends off because then you can be with loved ones.
Make content creation as close to a 9-5 or even less if you can. My hope for all creators is that yall have plenty of downtime and you're kinder to yourself

I have a flashbulb moment of realization that I finally had a depression drug that worked (yeah, I needed the meds) and that Wow! This is how other people live, it’s really nice! Glad to see a happier, healthier Abby.

@Elizabeth Claiborne - Congratulations! Don't let people try to talk you out of needed meds. After all, they would never think to tell a diabetic to stop taking insulin. Brain dysfunction is every bit of a medical problem as diabetes is. Happy New Year - we All need one!

NGL, every time I see a "stuff is changing!" video, my anxiety immediately flares up and I'm like "Please no! Are you sick? Are you changing your upload schedule to once a year for your mental health because people are bothering you (who do we have to kill??)? Are you LEAVING? Are we NEVER GONNA SEE YOU AGAIN??" and I'm really glad that this was not one of those videos. I'm so ready for all the stuff you said you want to do in the coming year! I moved exactly when you did, across the country (which in my case was 200 km, ahem) and I hope I'll go on being inspired by your own home improvements that you might want to share with us. My own depression is still making it hard for me, but I, too, am determined to catch it off guard and finally fill my home with *Rachel Maksy voice* WHIMSY over the next year.

I always worry when I see stuff like this that the new direction will be something I'm not as into, but this is exactly where I'm at in my life. I just wrote much of the same in my journal, straight down to gardening and being more intentional about my space because I need more beauty and inspiration in my life. This is totally my direction for 2023, and I'm so excited!
I would love you to do something with Linda Przybyzewski, author of the Lost Art of Dress. Linda is a history professor at the University of Notre Dame. I found her book very interesting.

Oh, yes to beauty!! I think everyone responds to beauty in some way so this is a brilliant idea!! A hand woven scarf in tones of turquoise and silky flames started me on a new exploration of pleasure. I am excited to see your year unfold.

For mental health I keep leaning on two principles that kind of overlap:
* Kintsugi - repairing with gold; more beautiful for having been broken
* Positive Disintegration - gather up the valuable pieces and find new ways to make a whole
And always remember that "Being well adjusted to a sick society is not a sign of health".
I'm totally with you about JG grey, we moved in July and the entire house is grey except a navy wall in the primary bedroom. The kitchen has grey counters and white cabinets, which I am stuck with.

I relate so much to this video. I’ve been on a similar journey through depression and other challenges. The direction I was going for in 2023 was beautifying my space and spending my time on things that are important to me. Sending you lots of good vibes for your goals and intentions for the year!
