Coffee on a long trip requires too many bathroom breaks. Also, nice cut n paste of the BT-50 off road to segment from last weeks review.
I’ve driven the current model Wildtrak for almost two years and love it. The only disappointment I’ve had is with the quality of the seats rather than being all leather they include a fabric piece on the outboard seat edges which on the drivers side tends to show wear in the area where you enter and exit very early on in ownership, in my case part of the seat fabric was showing signs of wear after around 10000kms. It is apparently a common problem and Ford will repair the seat under warranty but it I think it will be an ongoing problem. Just a shame in this otherwise outstanding all round quality vehicle Ford couldn’t get this right. I don’t use the Wildtrak commercially and I’m only slightly built, however other than this one bit of a whinge I couldn’t be happier with the Ranger Wildtrak.

These ute reviews in large part need to be taken with a grain of salt. The majority of various subtleties disappear when they're invariably modified, suspension lifts, lockers etc, not to mention bar work or trays. A better review methodology would be to take into account who buys these things and how they're primarily used, then tailor the review to that. And what account is taken of reliability? Pretty important to most people. What's the rangers record on that?
What is going to last reliability has too come in to it. I was talking to a Ford ranger owner the front end suspension needs doing at 100 thousand kilometres.
Hi Colin, would you like to talk to another Ford Ranger owner? Well, my BiTurbo has been back for warranty repairs 4 times, towed back 2x within 10 months for a fuel/injector system issues, a 3rd for electrical gremlins (still unresolved), the 4th for a transmission issue which turned out to be part of a recall, all within 35K and almost 6 week off road.. Our other 2 Rangers in our fleet have also experienced multiple warranty issues, some major, however the 2x 8y old Dmax's in the fleet are bullet proof. smooth I decided to cut my Ford experience short so I'll be moving over to a new Dmax soon, and couldn't be happier.

I dislike utes/trucks. My wife needed one for work. We test drove the lot and had to agree with all the reviews, they were spot on. She bought a Ranger.
You are just not going to get longevity out of a 2 ltr motor in a big ute. Esp if used as intended. That little thing is working really hard to move a loaded truck and trailer when its best suited to a small hatchback. But it produces great power you say? Well that means it's working its little guts out. Also, why don't any manufacturers offer the extra cab in higher spec? Im in the market now but noone sells them above poverty pack. I dont want the rear seats but I want some space in the cab for some gear. Its a really popular size for single blokes or those without kids. The half dozen in my street alone out number the dual cabs. Ive had Isuzus for decades from the old rodeo to the very last incarnation of the dmax. This time I just do not want the rear seats and do want a bit more tray space with cabin space to keep a few things dry and safe but id like the better interior and features of a higher spec than base model.
In order of preference for me it has to be: 1. The Bi-Turbo Ranger. 2. The Isuzu DMAX, and 3. The slightly less expensive, but Ugly Isuzu DMAX (Sorry Mazda BT50). The Ranger in my opinion is still currently the best vehicle. I would consider the Isuzu though as it does have a little bit more safety tech for when I have my Son in the vehicle with me on the road.
Anyone who purchases a vehicle based on any of these types of reviews is a fool and deserves to be unhappy. So subjective. A feature of one ute that will suit one person, won't suit another. Same with looks, feel, etc, etc. Also, many of the comments made are contradictory. Just one example : Ford Ranger has less ground clearance. Technically correct, but lets be honest, is 3mm going to be a deal breaker? Just for the record, no bias. I drive a Toyota Landcruiser.

So I spat the dummy and went and put a deposit on the Mazda. Of course I managed to phone the Isuzu dealership next day to let them know their slackness cost them $50k plus.
my only issue with Triton is the turbo lag, the engine from idle to around 2,500rpm has awful turbo lag, step on acceleration shows how poor that engine is no matter what gear the transmission is in, that said once boost kicks in (which is incidentally 2,500rpm) the engine has a wallop of torque and the engine can cleanly get to red line line with ease (but noisy as appreciated as it is still a diesel engine), that said form experience the Pajero Sport with the 8-speed torque converter clearly shows the engine has different characteristics, looking at vital info like transmission ratios and final drive ratio shows that the Pajero Sport version has lower gearing which helps subdue turbo lag that this engine has. If the Triton had the Pajero Sport 8-speed torque converter and lower overall gearing it would solve a lot of issues that Triton has, until then Triton should only be considered as a value buy against the China brands, up against anything else it simply can't compete.
@@351tgv Your comment made sense until the very last part. Yes the turbo lag is their but it's still a very good engine. It does whatever you throw at it and is tons more reliable and efficient than its competitors.
Also, I have a 120 series prado with the 1kz-te engine and it basically does what you said in your comment about performance. So this happens with other brands as well
For the most part it's far superior to the Steed and T60 (China) and Musso (South Korea) vehicles. That said against the best of the best it only really competes on price and their is nothing wrong with that however the game has moved on and say for Triton the "Ballance" is not there at all. It desperately needs the 8 speed to fix the horrendous and as such dangerous turbo lag it has, that or return the engine for better low end torque, maybe get the Nissan 2.3L twin turbo in the engine bay instead since they are all working together.

Hi guys. What I would love to see is a comparison between top spec, mid spec and entry level utes one day.
Why. They all have the exact same running gear.

REF cupholder statement. I think it would be fair to say that most in car coffee drinkers are doing so on their way to work. Road trips would be more bottle type beverages. Having driven Townsville to Brisbane 3 times a year for seven years and now Brisbane to Canberra, pre-border closure, that's generally how I roll. Coffee on a long trip requires too many bathroom breaks.
Also, nice cut n paste of the BT-50 off road to segment from last weeks review.
Nah mate, love my coffee on a road trip and toilet stops = safety stops ... though I usually travel with a dog so stops are mandatory!

Mine doesn’t have that issue yet 2 years in but I’d agree the seats aren’t the best for durability.
What’s the cost for servicing at its 15000k intervals ?
Dra Tempest couldn’t tell you as had first five years servicing included but from memory it’s ranged $300-500. I think you can check pricing on the Ford website.
never had that issue considering 2017 model orange seats has almost fabric material 😂
I am buying a ranger wildtrak in the next couple of weeks. The electric lid and rear tail gate seal and soft touch tail gate along with a better engine make this ute way better than even the latest brand new isuzu. Other things like 230volt plug, and ford pass make it even better. The choice is a no brainer.
good luck with the 2lts engine and the 10 speed gear box remember an engine that puts out a high boost like ranger, I'm concerned about the longevity of it... and the gear box that is reported that it misses gears... just a little feed back .
@@johnberto8861 Good feedback. I have had it 9 months now and can say i love it. Yea i could give or take the ten gear changes but holy smoke that engine, gear box combo is good. Done 20,000ks now and all good.

Was the cab of the Isuzu designed by Marshal Tito or General Stalin back in the 1950's? I know Bluetooth, Apple Carplay was probably new to them at the time, but did they really need to model it on a gulag?

Sorry Matt I called bulshit I spent 8 hours driving a Ford Ranger XLT and the car was constantly shuffling through the gears I had to really stomp on the gas all the time to stop a from shuffling through the the gears just my opinion though
Well said, I own one and it's not all roses, that transmission hunts through it's 10 gears non stop and is a pain in the ass.
Honestly, I've spent hundreds of hours in bi-turbo Rangers, and this complaint comes up from a few people now and then. I found the 3.2L with 6-sp auto was far more frustrating in its hunt for gears, and it was considerably less refined, too.

@@carsguide yes fully agree with you guys here; I think a lot of these comments must be made up of people who haven't really driven the new Ranger - I have driven both the old 3.2 and new 2.0 rangers in many variants and they are worlds apart. great review ,but can't see the details showing below due to the subtitles
When will you start including the ram 1500 and Silverado 1500 in your dual cab Ute reviews? I realise they are a size class above the mid sized dual cabs but they are still aimed at work and family dual cab buyers so I think it would be good to include them.
I think they are big ugly buggers. Look at Scotty Kilmer and his view on Chrysler/ Ram. He does not rate them. The Cummins diesel version has an engine that lasts longer than the truck. But the Fiat derived 3 l diesel is not so good apparently. The V8 sounds great but must guzzle huge quantities of fuel.
Anyway one has the right to buy what you want. Even if it means compensating for . ....
Durability?
ps guys, a compassion of the diver assist aids such as AEB would be good on these utes - to see if they work as well as they do on cars..? I'm sure you can find some inflatable props somewhere in the carsguide arsenal....?
As in pervious comment I own a Hilux but in this comparison for me the DMAX ticks all the boxes - looks much better than ageing Ford or the Mazda that still has an ugly nose - DMAX safety kit is impressive - Ford’s poor reliability and customer service culture is woeful and I would.not look forward to paying service/repair costs for not one but two turbos trying to work a small 2 litre diesel with a towing load - I would prefer the 3.2 litre. I semi-agree, David. However, I have seen the new BT-50 in metal and it is a good-looking truck.
@@davidanderson8381 : The old model was a style that one really liked or hated , I myself liked it due to being different ,that’s just me I’ve never been one to follow the masses. The old BT did well what you needed a good all rounder ute to do . This new version is a step in the right direction but not so much in the current engine department, the Isuzu engine is pretty bulletproof but a little short on the numbers but would be nice to see a V6 engine in the mix, hopefully at some stage.
Here in our country.. Mazda is not known for trucks but that one might give the likes of Hilux and Ranger sales here
Do any of them have autonomous cruise control
Ranger does.

No, the tail lights on the Mazda BT-50 has the turn signal, break and reverse light bulbs in the exact same place as the Ford Ranger.
Please Mazda, I would like the BT50 in Canada
Bt50 now got demister on side mirrors now for cold frosty morning - pretty good.
Australia -& South Africa have to wait for 2023 for all new Ford Ranger 😂

In order of preference for me it has to be: 1. The Bi-Turbo Ranger. 2. The Isuzu DMAX, and 3. The slightly less expensive, but Ugly Isuzu DMAX (Sorry Mazda BT50).
The Ranger in my opinion is still currently the best vehicle. I would consider the Isuzu though as it does have a little bit more safety tech for when I have my Son in the vehicle with me on the road.
I will definitely pick the BT-50.
WOW...paid comparison.....so unique 👌
Anyone who purchases a vehicle based on any of these types of reviews is a fool and deserves to be unhappy. So subjective. A feature of one ute that will suit one person, won't suit another. Same with looks, feel, etc, etc. Also, many of the comments made are contradictory. Just one example : Ford Ranger has less ground clearance. Technically correct, but lets be honest, is 3mm going to be a deal breaker? Just for the record, no bias. I drive a Toyota Landcruiser.

I'll take an almighty TRITON :)
my only issue with Triton is the turbo lag, the engine from idle to around 2,500rpm has awful turbo lag, step on acceleration shows how poor that engine is no matter what gear the transmission is in, that said once boost kicks in (which is incidentally 2,500rpm) the engine has a wallop of torque and the engine can cleanly get to red line line with ease (but noisy as appreciated as it is still a diesel engine), that said form experience the Pajero Sport with the 8-speed torque converter clearly shows the engine has different characteristics, looking at vital info like transmission ratios and final drive ratio shows that the Pajero Sport version has lower gearing which helps subdue turbo lag that this engine has.
It does whatever you throw at it and is tons more reliable and efficient than its competitors.
garbage
D Max! 🤙
