Real motocross! Real track. Real works bikes. Real hero’s! Pure gold! Just look at at those off cambers and how rough it was!!! Brilliant. So much talent in this video, an entire gate full of racing icons. 🤯🙏
Thank you , started riding at sears point at 13 years old . Going to the trans am was a huge deal for us. We would go the night before. Then come back the next weekend to ride the parts of the track they didn't shut down. I'm 57 now , just thinking about my youth .... also magoo rock on Danny cya someday 🙏
I was at this race, I was 17, me and my buddy came up from So. Cal. to see this. I raced a RM Suzuki 125 in 1977, every Friday night at Indian Dunes. (So, Cal, race track) I always loved this natural track...I miss the 70's.
@@lesfigueroa1049lucky. We lived in Las Vegas and from ‘72 on crossed the mighty Mojave for the Super Bowl of Mx. amazing spring national at saddleback, FIM 500cc USGP at carlsbad and the ama series ending fall trans am at saddleback in December. Golden memories…
I used to go to all of the TRANS-AMA races at Carnegie Cycle Park in Livermore before they headed to Sears Point in '77 I also was at the District AMA races at Sears Point watching Danny "Magoo" Chandler and Ron Self riding Penton/KTM's for Dirt Factory as privateers and literally walking away from motos after the first turn, riding wheelies all the way down the front straightaway. Thank You so much for this footage Jeff Clawson! Incredible memories!!!
I saw all these guys at the Puyallup, Washington race that same season. There were so many great riders back then. Huge race teams and at least 10 guys that could win on any given day. Thanks for the memories.
Absolutely a great video with subtitles (commentary) and just the right length(lol) Loved this era of MX! Natural terrain tracks, the bikes were getting better every year, and the rider competition was better!
Me and a friend were there in ‘76 when I was 14. His dad was working a side job on that Sunday, so he dropped us off on the highway at 7am, picked us up at 5. First time seeing the pros and all our hero’s. Awesome natural terrain track too. Great memory.
Thankful I got to race Sears Point AHRMA 125 Classic Expert on my 1973 Husqvarna,,,, with my brother Larry Roberts racing Preimer Lightweight on his CZ 175. Classic landscape for epic racing. Thank you Heavenly Father for keeping me safe.
This is Awesome,I went to my 1st race Ever Here in 1980 ! Then Raced here in 2007 & Met Lackey ! He Put the Race on like 2-3 yrs in a row, then Met Brad Again in 2015-16-17 & 18 at a Special Race in Marysville 🦾🤑👽🔥🏁
Near the end of the second moto Hannah and Lackey tangled in mid air, Lackey went through the snow fencing right next to where I was standing and ran over my friend, Duane Joice, and that is how Hannah won the second moto.
It was typical Hannah. He was barely on the bike. When he bumped into lackey it knocked him back on his bike. He regained “control” and motored on as lackey was separated from his mount. Hannah was very skilled at climbing all over the bike , barely in control bumping into things or people and staying on.
Sears Point originally designed the track. Sonoma County Sports Cycle Association ran the races. Ernie Cabral had then move the fences out to make a wider track. Also had them go up and down the hill and do the off camber side hill. Natural track.
Those guys were freaking GNARLY. They were riding FASTER in the second race than the first. And Lackey with that GP riding, took out Smith and scared the crap out of Hannah, restored his cage. But Hurricane was a beast. Those were the days.

The Gods of Moto from my era!!! As a NorCal racer, I raced at Sears Point many times...damn this video brought back some GREAT memories! Btw, Lackey being a NorCal product, definitely had an advantage over Bob. Had the race been held at Saddleback or Carlsbad, I suspect that Lackey and Hannah might have swapped their overall finishes for the day.
For sears point being a home track for lackey it’s surprising how hannah came in and out-muscled him going into a corner. Brad was the fastest US rider of his day. Its not often you see him passed in a race by anyone, particularly in an AMA us national mx contest . He was the one doing the passing.
Mark, the super 8 footage I had did not have any sound at all, so when I edited it (I am a rank amateur) I added in fake engine sounds as well as the crappy music. Yes, I know it's lame. Not going to re-do it. Feel free to play it on mute and make your own engine sounds "braaap"!
@@jeffclawson1842 hey Jeff great video ! I was there my cousin raced some nationals, inter-am and super cross , so so many UA-cam videos have music that I wish I could here there motors instead anyway keep posting I dig 👍😁😎
Love the footage. Thank you but get rid of that horrible guitar shit show. Let the sound of the two stroke be your theme music. Do a voice over commentary, but for gods sake, Not some third grader rift that pounds the senses and ruins the experience. . Love it other wise.
Probably not going to redo the video, even though I fully realize the audio sucks. Maybe you can just mute the sound and make 2 stroke sounds with your lips.

Excellent video. I was there. Amazing track. Snuck into the pits. Thanks for the effort to produce the video
Good job. I used to sneak into the pits also
Fantastic! Probably the best footage I’ve seen from this great era.🔥

Yes,I went to several nationals back in the late 70's there..Trans AMA races at Carnegie early mid 70's..
Used to have Gaylen Mosiers jersey when I was wearing it for jammas I wonder if my uncle Rocky was his mechanic during this race?
Awesome footage
Glory Days of MX..
What no triple jumps, no rhythm section, just natural terrain the way it supposed to be MX

The hey day!! Or is it hay day? Nonetheless, those were the days! Fortunate to see them all at Unadilla!!
Was there any man-made terrain at Sears Point? Looks 100% natural.
Maybe Brad Lackey can tell us. He designed the course. If I had to guess, it looks like the bigger jumps might have been built up...?

that would be much BETTER WITHOUT MUSIC .
Get rid of the music. The sound of those old bikes is unmatched by cheap rifs and drums slam.
Please drop the crappy music and let the engine’s be the sound !
