My son has this Ebike and looking to make it faster, could we possibly upgrade the battery to 52v if so how? or do you have any other recommendations? anyone else done such upgrades some direction will be appreciated - thank you

That is correct. Slide it out by pulling on the rear light which is attached to the battery.
