Immense amount of welding on the track frame, so far. Learned some new things about the 14 in todays video Thank You for spending the time making these videos Jeff. Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction.
Might try on the tough bolt extraction that breaks off three nuts, drill out center of bolt then weld on nut, thus allowing center cavity space for bolt to shrink into.
In my youth I worked for a company that had 6 CAT dozers and other kit too, we had two men who worked full time on side frames, one welder who was always repairing idler wheels and track frames, side frames are no joke to fix but a real blessing when they work well.
I spent many many hours doing these very same jobs. All the build up welding, so tedious but when you get it all assembled and things are tight, great feeling. Those freaking slide wear pieces. Done lots of those too. We had an old 14H so worn out you couldn’t keep the brass and shims in place. Of course company grader so just run it. Funny how they never self heal.
Great video Jeff always enjoy watching you work on your equipment. Maintenance is important if you want it to work correctly. Thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff.
The hardest working man on YT........welding and manipulating big iron ya gotta be tough; all you naysayers oughta try it sometime and find out!!! Thanks Jeff for all your educational videos!!!!!
I used 3M cubitron II fibre disc that had the quick lock change. These things are Expensive but they don't tend to load up and dull like other disc or pads. 3M has some really good products for grinding.
We still have some parts kicking around for D9Gs. We have a pair of track frames that are the same as yours and I think I have side plates kicking around...Undercarriage is a lot of work at the best of times, especially on D8s and D9s. I've done my fair share of them... Do you use build up rod? We build up our idlers with build up rod rather than buying new and had great success with doing so. Is your whole undercarriage Trek or just the idlers? Well, I have to go back to work and I'll finish the video later. Nice to see you again. I've been so busy making my own videos now...
You need the 3M Cubitron 36 grit pad with the polycarbonate back you can just replace the pad they rip through 3/8” of steel in 2 seconds and yes you can make steel flat I use them daily
Yeah that’s creosote on that slide…just bought all new pins for my excavator and one was all nasty like that in a bag….should of cleaned it in some gasoline that gunk is sticky.
love all the work you do and were the same age pain disorder slowed me down but the brain keeps us going. dont forget lots of tin man lube on every bolt and a little on you for good luck. cheers buddy.
So did you find out what those new shims are made out of? Brass is definitely best, soft so not to wear out the steel and brass is basically self lubricating when it comes to friction.
It seems you are going to put the U blade on. Keep in mind the U blade will tare the tire up on the scraper while push loading while slightly off straight
@@Jpaydirt ok, thanks, I picked up a 1969 Galion 503A grader and it looks like it just has a screen in the tank… weird. I thought maybe someone removed the filter but the configuration is looking more like it never came with one… I enjoy your videos! I wanted to do some dirt work on our property we purchased a few years ago and started picking up old equipment to do so. Theres a lot to learn in the heavy equipment world so I watch your videos and others to learn as much as I can. Thanks! Ps, maintaining multiple machines is a full time job haha I have 8 machines now and it’s hard to keep up with repairs and maintenance, you make it look easy! But it’s not
…your versatility in facing downsides is great Jeff you must have amazing reserves in (we call it) ‘vasbyt’ i.e. ‘keeping on going no matter what’ capacity⁉️ Good luck following the entire process with keen interest…its fascinating how you ‘figure’ Great stuff Think, i understand why you stand by the old CATS the way you do they take posession of one to the greatest degree a good thing if survival and ‘staying alive’ depends on it, i suppose These machines are made to last and work endlessly, it is clear BUT, TLC is a good thing also with any machine and equipment in use, really Hope it goes well… beste ex ZA South, Cape Winelands 👊🔥 🪖
They are NOT voids. They are grease retention pockets. ;-)

Glad to hear you got use out of those taps. I think those belonged to my dad for use on his logging Cats.👍
Watching your assembly calms me when I think about my time building my car , wanting to do it 1 time and right. I'm to old to mess around.
Love your never give up disposition Jeff ❤
D9 Yard sale! shit scattered everywhere! I have done my share of welding up idler sliders. Grin and bear it!
G'day Jeff,
Love the cat vids , nice stuff.
Thanks for taking the time to share them with the faithful.

Amen to that, most of the nasayers couldn’t put blades on a mower let alone wrangle the stuff Jeffrey handles.
Good morning from rained out Southeast South Dakota
Enjoyed this video bro, wind is causing problems down here in NZ too by fanning land fires in the south island. Safe travels. Ken.

the dozer will be so tight you will have to turn up the boost to get her to move.🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Anybody else worried about the hurricane down by Jamaica? I'm from iowa so I'm not overly concerned.love the channel, hope all is well
Cubatron makes flat disks also..instead off flapper disks
The qubitron is a sanding pad. Pipelining we call them a Tiger Paw. They do remove some metal. But wear out kind of quick.
whats your recomendation for a hard wheel to remove material?
That gonna take a hit on lava
The northern hemisphere is more aggressive than down under
Nice Friday night gift! 11 pm est and I get to watch some Paydirt movies !!

You can get the Qubitron in a old style flat disk that you can get to cut flat. 3M 78468-Q

Jedi welding lol 'these aren't the voids ur looking for'
Couple thumb tacks should help keep ur hat on.

Ok I,ll stop by and start with the CAT Yellow.

I think Oilite bronze turns black like that sitting on the shelf, maybe that is what the guides are made of?
Hurray Hurray for three finger JOE
Did he run scraper
Where’s the EMPIRE CAT sticker?!?!
the real trick to grinding is to break out the 9" grinder now those really grind even with a regular wheel
You`re awesome Jeff .Check out Johnny Hamchech when you get a sec .He has your cadence .LOL
Jeff wins!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
Jeff Wins Again
Try 5" blue zirconia disks from welding supplier
1-1/4UNF tap - don't see those very often! You got lucky for certain.
if it was easy everybody would be doing it
Gee...
Are those blade lift cylinders big enough for that heavier U blade?
There all the same size
@6:30 is that a crack in the weld above your hand?
Or grind a sacrificial socket
Does your Galion have a hydraulic filter, or just a suction screen?
Filters

following the entire process with keen interest…its fascinating how you ‘figure’
