First, I’ve been doing judo for over 60 years. Almost everyone I see is actually doing Kubi Nage NOT koshi guruma. That’s a no no. In a real fight kubi nage is outstanding but can really hurt someone. Here we are shown the perfect example as at no time does Travis clamp the neck. Wonderful and thanks

As you are having a 60 year experience in judo, you should know that kubi nage is NOT an official judo throw.

Really like this Koshi guruma set up. Going to have to try out this split the hip entry. Thats something entirely new to me. Seems like a faster smoother entry to many thows. Love it.

I really like that you show combinations and I didn't know this hand pushing on the chest.

Love it love it love it...any plans to do a more detailed tutorial on Koshi Garuma? I like the throw and would be good to see a more detailed tutorial on various set ups and entries especially since it served you so well.....

Thanks. Spent a lot of time in that position my last randori session and kept giving away my right sleeve, so I'll try throwing the elbow next time.

Sensei Travis, your content is great and thank you for that! One suggestion though - I think your videos would benefit from getting right in front of them showcase of the move/technique full-speed. Just so that you can right away see what it is all about and get hooked.

Can you use this same setup with other throws to the front...? Such as O-Goshi, Tsuri Goshi, or Uki Goshi?

Hey Travis! I heard you say split koshi guruma and I realized I’ve never learned that throw... could you explain it a little please? That would help a lot thanks!

yeah - That Question came up with me too.
As far as I could "observe" (im NOT an expert, by any means) he is "splitting" with either A) his left "back" leg, or B) with his right leg - by stepping rather deep between Ukes Legs and center of gravity.
the "classic" one was taught to me more like a Hip "wheel" where you pull Uke on your whole hip, where your butt is almost "passed" both legs of Uke.
Anyway - I have seen this on his Highlight Video once! Seems to work ;-D

Once you understand the split hip motion you can apply it to a lot of techniques!
