Do YOU think the XR100 is too outdated now?
How to make trail riding safer using basic techniques [Get my guide for FREE today] - motocrosshideout.com/free-lessons/
The xr100 is probably the best all around bike ever made for the normal rider, it will never be outdated in my opinion ! We own one and just everyone rides it doesn’t matter size or weight ! They are fun to ride and fun to maintenance. I’d recommend it to everyone. Plus kickstart only is good for new riders to learn how to start one the old school way. #1 downfall is suspension for a heavier rider .
You and I think alike! Some people are just too proud to admit that it's such a solid dirt bike.
@@MotocrossHideout 100% agree
Nearly ANY Honda air cooled off road bike is a fantastic machine. The simpler, the better. Lots of information, parts, documentation. XR/CRF100 particularly is very light, but will hold most adults no problem. For harder riding, the 200+ sizes are just as reliable and easy to maintain.
The 2 stroke bikes are a bit simpler engine valve train, but 4 stroke is very user friendly. Many things that "modern bikes" have can add weight and complexity and cost - water cooling & radiator, battery & electric start circuit & starter, disc brakes & hydraulic fluid.
Stay gold.
Just found your channel. Been searching for a good used bike for my 12yr old son. He’s ridden a TTR 110 for 4 years and I’d like to find him something a little bigger with a clutch to really learn to ride. Your videos have been really helpful as I’ve never been into dirt bikes and there are so many models and different styles. It’s difficult to wade through them all to make sure we get the right kind of bike. He’s convinced he wants a KTM 85 and I feel like it’s too much bike for him. He’s never ridden motocross and his only experience with a clutch was one afternoon on a 4 wheeler. He did well but I don’t think that means I should buy him a race bike.
Thank you for the valuable info!
Yeah, the race bikes are fun, but they're a lot harder to handle, especially if your son is going to be doing any woods/trail riding. The XR100 would be a good upgrade from the 110 as far as size and a great way to learn how to use the clutch. Less maintenance, too! Thanks for watching!
The only thing that stops a Honda XR100 is running out of gas, or a flat tire. That's it.
My XR100 went 55 mph. it's from the 80s.
Great video and awesome bike, used to have a CRF100 when I was 10 and it taught me a lot.
Right on, they're great bikes to learn on/from - thanks for watching!
My first dirt bike 2003 xr 100 was so fun best learning bike ever built allot of confidence on that bad boy I was going to get one for my partner that or a 150 she’s been riding a 110
Problems I had with mine I used to launch the thing and I’d break the spokes all the time :/ get better suspension in my opinion !!
Yep, great bikes that can take a beating! Thanks for watching, Adam :)
Excellent video and love that you added links and descriptions below
Glad it was helpful - thanks for watching, Randy!
I love my 2003 XR10r
I was in first gear and was trying to do a slow wheelie. I was stoped and had my foot on the back break i pulled in the clutchand rev’d the motor and dumped the cluth i am smeeling it burning is it to late do i buy a new assembily or will i be fine
I’m 6”1 6”3 190 just got the xr100r I hope it’s reliable for me since I’m a bit taller and weight wise
You're definitely taller than the intended rider. If you're just starting out or riding it conservatively then it'll be fine. Once you start bottoming out the suspension frequently, then you'll want to consider upgrading.
@@MotocrossHideout I’m not a beginner I’ve ridden bigger bikes just don’t have much money and doing the this bike for pretty cheap so as long as I don’t go too hard it’ll be fine? Just hope it does good on trails for me and stuff
Gotcha, yeah you can check out my article here on the best mods/upgrades to make it safer/faster: motocrosshideout.com/xr100-mods-top-5-things-to-make-it-faster/
I’m getting one monday
Sweet, let us know how you like it!
Hey bro just got the 1987 xr100 seems real easy to kick over has a bit of resistance but am worried the compression is low runs great tho
They're fairly easy to kick over compared to a bigger race bike. If you're worried about it, I'd recommend getting a compression tester and doing a proper test. Otherwise, if it's starts right away hot or cold, it might be fine.
Do you think this xr100 good for my 12yr old Son? He has a honda 50 that he outgrew and someone is giving me a xr100.
Hey Alberto, it depends on his size and if you want a dirt bike with a manual clutch. If yes, and your son fits well (can touch the ground), then yes, it's an excellent bike to upgrade to from a Honda 50.
@MotocrossHideout thats what I want for him to learn the clutch.. before I go an buy him a nice one. He likes to go to the local track. Couple of jumps nothing crazy. Its mostly having him learn how to work the clutch and the gears
Yep, it's great for learning on. If you're not familiar with looking at used bikes, I recommend watching this video to know what to look for: ua-cam.com/video/RpXW6SntidA/v-deo.html
@@albertoanaya1669yeah just keep in mind that the xr100 weighs about 50% more and has 200% more power than a 50cc
Is 10w40 royal purple full synthetic fine to use for these bikes ?
I haven't used Royal purple before but in a bike like this it's probably okay as long as the clutch doesn't slip. (Some car motor oils don't work well in motorcycle "wet clutch" systems)
As someone who has one they can't be stoped
I’ll be checking out a xr100 tomorrow 1987 what are some things I should inspect like for the motor and when I test ride it to make sure the motor is still decent ?
Hey Troy, make sure there's oil on the dipstick - bike must be upright when you set the dipstick back in. Pay attention to how easy (or hard) it is to start. Listen for any knocking noises. And then make sure it shifts smoothly through all the gears. Hope that helps!
fantastic bikes then, fantastic bikes NOW!
Is this the John Connor bike?
Yep. But it definitely doesn't sound like it does in the movie :)
@@MotocrossHideout it was that 2 stroke xr... 😂
It’s a good bike
Are 80s hondas like xl500 still viable long term bike? I lwant a long term but dont want waste $.
In my area A fully functional 1982 honda xl500 is $1800, while newer fuel injection bikes like 2019 yamaha xt250, kawasaki klx 250 are $3000.
The technology hasn't changed much on the air-cooled bikes, so it would be relatively fun and easy to ride, but it's a heavier bike and parts will be a lot harder and more expensive to find/buy.
A XL500 was my first bike (16yrs) if you find one for a good price get it. That big four stroke honda sounds and feels amazing. Something You'll never regret
🤩 P r o m o S M
Better off getting a 2024 crf250F or a CRF125 Big Wheel
The 125FB would definitely be the most comparable, but not everyone can afford a newer bike, which is where the ol' xr100 comes in ;)
@@MotocrossHideout but an old XR might need a lot of work so almost better off buying a new bike. Plus hard to find parts for an old bike.
That's like saying you might as well buy a new car because a used one "MIGHT" need a lot of work. Which can be true, but if you know what to look for, you can save a lot of money buying used, which is what I've been doing for years.
Also, last I checked, most online retailers still have new OEM parts for the XR100.
Im getting a 2001 for my first dirtike
Nice - let us know what you think of it!
