Great job doing it without a tutorial or schematic. To get rid of the block in the front you can put a redstone block over the rail.
Naomi has been awesome on the server, very friendly and she is learning lots and help lots as well. She came and took a tour of our base the other day.

Sitting here thinking, "Is Ted going to realize that the last furnace isn't getting fuel because the hopper is getting powered by the redstone block?". oh yeah! You figured it out. Nice job! Shine get! The next thing to do it make an automatically generating fuel source.

​@BasementCraft bamboo is good but to get enough to cover your furnace aray it would take a very large farm.
A 12 to 16 cauldron lava farm should be more than enough to cover it though and should give you a fast enough random tick to fulfill you and Paters needs.
Kelp is okay but you have to dry it first so you have a huge backlog to get all the dried kelp to just run the farm.
With all the trees Peter chops you could also look at using charcoal.
