Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska. We are located in South Central Alaska near the town of Wasilla. Living in Alaska and building our dream of “modern Homesteading” through the wilds of winter and the long summer days. We started building our Modern Homestead in 2021. We have since completed the upper levels of our home. Built a 16x16 foot chicken coop that dreams are made of. Our chicken ladies live in luxury as they view the beautiful lake from large windows inside the beautiful coop. We raise our own poultry, hunt for our food. We are avid fisherman And woman. We also built an amazing and beautiful wood shed. We have great big garden planes for the future. Join us as we dream big dreams and live everyday working hard to accomplish them.

I do 60 eggs in my Freeze Dryer.
Whip them, and put on 4 trays.
When done, I put in a 1/2 gallon glass mason jar, for short term storage.
Perfect for scramble eggs, French Toast and baking!
I’m collecting eggs too to fill the freeze dry
I have the wood cook stove my mom cooked on back in the 60's when I grew up, still in excellent condition.

I would love to have a wood cook stove. I have just a regular wood stove right now that is used to heat our house. I just love the warm cozy heat a wood stove has. There is nothing like it.

I love potato soup and I add a bit of cream cheese towards the end for a richer creamier soup, so yummy. I would love to have a wood stove, I remember my grandmother cooking on one when I was little and she would bake bread in hers and us grandkids sat at that kitchen table just drooling as we anxiously waited for a warm slice of bread with fresh churned butter and her homemade jam! Funny, that memory just popped into my head when I saw your stove! There is nothing better then wood burning heat to make you feel so cosy and comfy 🔥❤🍞

Our cabin at the beach had a wood stove. We'd go out and pick wild blackberries and nana would make an awesome pie. She also did stews, roasts etc..she cooked on wood stoves most her life. She used the wood to manipulate the heat. I imagine with years and years of practice she had it down.

Regarding your oven temperature, I found of the firewood is cut a little smaller it’s way easier to bake and cook with it. But maybe you do that already, but wanted to mention it. Funny you mentioned decorating for fall, I decorated for Halloween even though we get 2-3 trick or treaters. That’s it. How can I get a picture to you? Anyway, I have to try making that soup. Only way I made it was from an envelope and Larry didn’t like it. Homemade he might. I really like the time you took to describe your stove. Some others would just say go to this site and check it out. Obviously in Florida, we really don’t need one. My family had solely a wood stove just for heating at home with oil as secondary. Larry, well being from the suburbs just had gas hot air. After we met, the first winter at my parents house I was working on the wood stove and Larry didn’t know what the bellows was. Poor guy. Anyway, still have to watch your prior video on food prepping. Take care till next time.😊

They now have the Cuisiniere 3.0 that is supposed to correct the oven temperature deficiency. I sure hope so, I just bought one... I'll let you know when I get it hooked up in October.

@@kd7tda The chimney is being built now, the stove was shipped, but is not here yet. I will do a review on the stove as soon as our temps drop, so that both room heating and oven performance will be fair. I am in northern Maine, so those temp drops should be soon.

week before last went to trader Joe's in Henderson on green valley n they said they no long carry the shelf stable heavy whipping cream. so I'm going to check other ones so bummed . it under 2.00 n WONDERFUL

few Yeats back I had left over hershey bars I open n placed on my warm brownies n then spread like frosting it was a hit we norm just eat unfristed unless son was trying to gain but it was so yummy. mu hubby doesn't like chocolate so we don't ever have to share lol😂😂😂

No not much at all. Unless it burps or you you let smoke it.
Why SO MUCH BUTTER?
Omg, why not! Lol everything is better with butter but I’m sure you can adjust the amount to your liking, it just won’t be as yummy and rich in my opinion
It’s over 5 pounds of potatoes. Truthfully it’s not much butter for that amount of food. But use what you are comfortable with. Thank you fir the question
