So, the xbox one s works damn well with Retroarch really well. Even the ps2 or the dolphin emulator part of it! I just turned off v-sync and it worked like a dream.
Xbox one (X) can play some Games playable, it is game specific. Games like Burnout, I-Ninja, Mortal Kombat etc. are good playable with the Dolphin Emulator on Xbox One. Other Games can be playable on Xbox One console, if the Setting "Enable VI Skip" activated. It helps the Emulator optimize the frameskipping and the Sound stutter can be fixed (Simpsons Hit & Run). But yes, if you won't flawless experience, use it with Xbox Series Console.
Sadly if you want to change your controls to something else or add cheats then you will still need to go and create ini config files on dolphin on the pc, and for games like if you wanted to run Twilight Princess you will need to make your ini with the hyrule field speed hack to fix the issue with low fps and if you wanted to use something like a true widescreen without the image just being stretched. but for most games and if you dont care about the current controls then it works just fine without really any setup at all, the only setup you really need is for the USB if you wanted to run games from there since you need to add the permissions to your USB and then add your games and also if you wanted custom texture packs too.
If I didn't have a PC and Steam Deck and wouldn't be so much focused on RetroArch, I would probably setup my Series S for emulation as well. At the moment, there is just no incentive for me to do so. But this machine is really cool for homebrew and emulation.
@@jimmelton5846 No, the functionality in Series S is limited (can't use any controller in example, or G-Sync or many cores and so on an on). Plus the freedom on PC to edit configs with an editor and do some crazy stuff on Linux. RetroArch on Xbox is nowhere good as on PC. I use the Xbox only for Xbox games and Games Pass. Both are connected to same monitor anyway, so there is even less incentive to setup emulation on it.
It’s a crying shame that the Xbox One controllers are priced in the same range as the Dualshock 4/5 and Switch Pro controllers, yet does not have motion sensors of any kind. Imagine shaking your XBO controller to spin in Super Mario Galaxy.
Have you tried dolphin on an android phone hooked up to a TV/monitor at 120hz? I do it with my red magic 6s pro and it looks really smooth even though the games aren't running at 120fps, the biggest benefit though is the lower input delay.

So I recently got a Series X and I've been hearing about how crazy the emulation scene is on the Series X/S has been, I've been debating trying it out but I'm just a little bit concerned and would like some clarification, even if it sounds like a stupid question to ask. Does using of these emulators, be it through Dev or Retail Mode, run the risk of getting you banned? I know ROMs are a legal grey area, but I'm mainly thinking about the emulators in general? Just wondering if it's worth trying it out or not, it looks amazing! Thanks in advance!
Emulators are legal to use. It is the roms that you download that are illegal. Emulators are completely legal and there is zero risk for you getting banned. Hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of xbox users has downloaded these emulators by now and I don`t think that Microsoft will ban them all and loose all their gamebase. You are safe :)
I find it crazy that I can play GameCube, PS2, PS1 Wii etc on Xbox but not PS5 or Switch Its kinda laughable like…. I’ve never been an Xbox guy but this might do it now
Hopefully it adds controller mapping soon. You still cannot map your controller unless you use a PC then copy over the config. Which doesn't work for me either for some reason. I can't get far in wii ganes without being able to map the motion controls to buttons.
what were they thinking?! How is it possible to release such a complicated piece of software without any options to rebind the controls is far beyond me
I'm using an external hdd for my wii and gamecube games. This version of dolphin is taking ages to load the games list on my series x. And scrolling through the games is extremely laggy. Also how do I configure the wii and gamecube cobtrollers,
Since you brought up the One and One X, I do think that anyone who has those should get Retroarch set up at least. All the 8 and 16 bit stuff works great, PS1, PSP, Dreamcast as well. DS and N64 surprisingly have poor performance but the ones that run make it worth it.
Kicking myself for not buy an S when they were on sale for $200ish around Black Friday. I want to pick one up strictly for emulation. Already have a Series X.
Any idea why some games are not loading onto the dashboard? I have about 150 GameCube and Wii games but only 75 showing on the dash all games are in proper formats, is it an issue with a max limit or something?
Super amateur question. If I get a Series X and use it for emulation, can I simultaneously access all the standard Xbox stuff (Xbox store, purchased games etc.) or do I have to pick one over the other? Edit: oops video is 2 weeks old. Guess I’ma just talk to myself no worries
No you can’t not anymore. You use to be able to but retail mode was shut down. You can switch back and forth and save your emulators and games but you can’t run them all simultaneously. Dev mode for emulators….retail mode for Xbox games and Netflix, etc, whatever else.

Xenia for UWP just released, meaning you can now play Xbox 360 games with emulation on your Series console!
I keep thinking these videos are about the OG Xbox only because Dolphin is so good it almost wouldn't surprise me
What a time to be alive
Gonna be hilarious if we soon see Switch emulation from Yuzu on it
Amazing Video.
But yes, if you won't flawless experience, use it with Xbox Series Console.
loving the dolphin content
That is pretty cool. Hopefully, that big picture mode will come to the PC version of Dolphin soon.
Sadly if you want to change your controls to something else or add cheats then you will still need to go and create ini config files on dolphin on the pc, and for games like if you wanted to run Twilight Princess you will need to make your ini with the hyrule field speed hack to fix the issue with low fps and if you wanted to use something like a true widescreen without the image just being stretched.
but for most games and if you dont care about the current controls then it works just fine without really any setup at all, the only setup you really need is for the USB if you wanted to run games from there since you need to add the permissions to your USB and then add your games and also if you wanted custom texture packs too.
they should change default resolution to a non native one that runs fullspeed for all games on this hardware.
So 2x or 3x I guess
If I didn't have a PC and Steam Deck and wouldn't be so much focused on RetroArch, I would probably setup my Series S for emulation as well. At the moment, there is just no incentive for me to do so. But this machine is really cool for homebrew and emulation.
Take your retroarch setup and use it on Series, totally achievable without issue.
Xenia got ported to uwp 😍
Love using Dolphin it’s so much fun.
I'm so close to just selling off my GCN now. Amazing work folks!
Is The Real MVP podcast officially dead? It's still linked in the description, but no episodes released for 3 years.
It’s a crying shame that the Xbox One controllers are priced in the same range as the Dualshock 4/5 and Switch Pro controllers, yet does not have motion sensors of any kind.
Imagine shaking your XBO controller to spin in Super Mario Galaxy.
Stupid question, Does Dolphin show up in the Xbox store after you put your Series S into developer mode?
Dolphins are cool. I think i will write a thesis on them.
Now I have something to do with my Series S! Thanks for the update.
Have you tried dolphin on an android phone hooked up to a TV/monitor at 120hz?
I do it with my red magic 6s pro and it looks really smooth even though the games aren't running at 120fps, the biggest benefit though is the lower input delay.
That's a hell of a lot of money to pay for gc emulation 🙂
@@hazy33 it's not that expensive compared to a Samsung to be fair and you can max out the clock speeds and disable thermal throttling but I only do that using a fan, plus I play other android game and emulators with it.
imgui comes to the rescue again. good stuff!
I've been trying for some time to set up this version but unfortunately I've net been able to play the games because they just don't appear everytime I try to select the directory
How high is additional input lag due to emulation? Maybe 3-5 frames?
I find it crazy that I can play GameCube, PS2, PS1 Wii etc on Xbox but not PS5 or Switch
Its kinda laughable like….
How is it possible to release such a complicated piece of software without any options to rebind the controls is far beyond me
What is that screen in the background that is being used for the UA-cam Subscription counter?
they did this because of your video. thats the power you have.
@@ReveriePass lol i knew it!
Man that series s just keeps getting better in gaming value.
Does Dolphin allow you to connect 4 controllers and play smash or Mario party?
Kicking myself for not buy an S when they were on sale for $200ish around Black Friday. I want to pick one up strictly for emulation. Already have a Series X.
Why would you want the Series S when your Series X will do it better? Just for being more portable if you travel?
@MVG What is the best way to run PS1 games on a PS2 using a hard drive?
Popsloader
Best/only way IIRC is POPSLoader but it's hit or miss. I'd suggest a modded PS3 if possible
You can't if you're using USB drive.
What's that thing displaying your subscriber count on your shelf?
Any idea why some games are not loading onto the dashboard? I have about 150 GameCube and Wii games but only 75 showing on the dash all games are in proper formats, is it an issue with a max limit or something?
Super amateur question. If I get a Series X and use it for emulation, can I simultaneously access all the standard Xbox stuff (Xbox store, purchased games etc.) or do I have to pick one over the other?
Edit: oops video is 2 weeks old. Guess I’ma just talk to myself no worries
Yes
No you can’t not anymore. You use to be able to but retail mode was shut down. You can switch back and forth and save your emulators and games but you can’t run them all simultaneously. Dev mode for emulators….retail mode for Xbox games and Netflix, etc, whatever else.
Lets wait for the retail version. Nice
I'm playing the dolphin emulator on the series s, when I have the Xbox revolution on 4kuhd the app doesn't work properly and when I put it on 1080p it works perfectly
Works fine in devkit mode but still no controller reaction ingame in retail mode. :(
Retail mode is fine, ftp controller configurations over.
@@jimmelton5846 This already didn't work for me with the previous version. Controller config files loaded from Gamr13s Discord, copied via FTP to "/LOCALFOLDER/39539VappyHub.S0WEPT3QLSBQZVK9_98g8ek10nk6s8/LocalState/Config" (which is the Dolphin App folder) and still no response.
@therealspesch2004 that version worked for me, as does 1.1.2 on retail. You can set the user folder location to USB so you don't have to deal with the convoluted folder system on Xbox, maybe they didn't overwrite the existing files?
I wonder if an Xbox emulator will be released for games that arent backwards compatible???? Like outrun 2, and many many others
Ok... imma buy a series s now
Are you gonna check out the port of Xenia?
Yeah, he is. He posted about it on Twitter.
@@Wally17. cool, I avoid Twitter now a days so I had no idea. Thanks.
@@themacintoshnerd You’re welcome. It’s pretty wild that Xenia is being worked on too. I’m holding out hope that someday someone ports Xemu for original Xbox games.
Due to the old weak CPU of the last generation, a lot of these emulators such as Dolphin will struggle on any Xbox One, the Ryzen on the Xbox Series is a major leap forward even if the Series S is weaker in terms of raw GPU power compared to the older Xbox One X, the CPU matters more in this instance.
Dont know how long Nintendo and Microsoft wil let it happening, sometimes i think they ddnt know about it and could find out at any moment.
You should do a video covering why emulation is better optimized for the series s vs the one x
It's pretty simple. Emulation is almost exclusively CPU based, and the CPU in the Series S and X is light-years ahead of previous gen.
