      Love the Tonebender I use it on stereo bus.. sometimes w/out actually affecting any frequencies, or sometimes to impose some real eq character. The Brainworx Focusrite Console is the happiest purchase I made this year. Versatile, everything from EQ to compression to gating to filtering all on the same interface.. and every channel pair sounds slightly different. I use it on literally everything. The SSL Drum Strip is amazing. The entire SSL suite of compressors is great. Especially the Bus and Valve compressors. Drip is incredibly useful. The Waves version of the Fairchild compressors is.. finnicky but actually helps a lot w parallels compression and it's CHEAP. Wavesfactory Track Spacer is an unbelievably useful tool to keep kick drums and bass guitars from running into each other. The Entire Newfangled Audio Suite is obscenely useful. Of course FabFilter pro Eq and Compression and Reverbs. Planning to try out that reverb plugin you showed off. Thanks for posting awesome to have more female engineers kicking ass!!

    Followed you along the way from 2020 Favorites & Its amazing to see some still stands the test of time & technology, especially like the Sonnox Inflator. Its such a nice insight that you practically take us through a scenario & also provide an alternative plugin option for poor lads like us without the luxury for a UAD :)
    All your videos are very very well composed in all aspects & looking forward for many more of these pretty soon !
    Please give a try on emerging companies like Oek Sound / Baby Audio / Denise Audio as their plugins have started a revolution already I presume. Many thanks & God Bless !

    I picked up the R2, R4 and Phoenixverb stereo reverbs by Exponential Audio/Izotope on sale from Plug In Boutique for about $20 each. They sound really beautiful and they have been on my mixes for the last 3 or 4 months. Originally they were very high end reverbs with a lot of R&D behind them.

    Great Info Video Sara! My "fave" new plug-in is the Metric AB- has truly improved the final results of all my mixes- have even gone back and re-mixed some work- to improve the results with it
    The Presonus stock plugin, "Analog Delay", has become my go to delay plugin-straight forward to use and versatile as well. (My DAW is Studio One 5 (professional) so I'm not sure this plugin is available to other DAWs) .
    Cheers!

    if you are on a zero budget then there are a lot of free really good plugins out there. Analog Obsession offer an emulation of the 1176 compressor as well as Neve, API and a whole host of other analog gear. Tokyo Dawn Labs also offer free plugins that are great.

  • @bradferguson9840

    Hi Sara, you mentioned that you use True Iron on your drum bus... do you think it would be effective as the first insert of the mixbus (pre compression and eq)? Also, do you think it could sit in front of tape emulations on each individual instrument channel, or would that be overkill? Thanks - just curious before I purchase it.

    • @SaraCarterSimplyMixing
      @SaraCarterSimplyMixing  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I think it would be great on the mix bus as you describe although the tape emulation may or may not be a step too far. It depends on the material, gain staging etc. I always like to go carefully with saturation, so why not try it on a trial first to see if it works for you? It has a mix knob so you can use as much or as little as you like.

    Is there a reason you like the Brainworx SSL 9000J as opposed to the 4000E or 4000G? Is it just that you're familiar with the real console? Personally, I've always gravitated toward the 4000G plugin. But the differences seem pretty subtle.
    The Fab Filter plugins are definitely musts for me, especially the ones you mentioned.

    • @SaraCarterSimplyMixing

    Hi Sara! I guess, there's no difference between using reverbs in the sends and adjusting send level, and using reverbs in the inserts and adjusting "mix" parameter. Why so many people recommend using reverbs in the sends - only for applying it to few tracks, for example, to the whole drum group?

    • @SaraCarterSimplyMixing
      @SaraCarterSimplyMixing  2 роки тому +1

      You've got a little more creative flexibility by using sends. Sending a delay to a reverb for example (although you could still stack them in the inserts I guess) For me, it mimics the old school way with consoles, so it's how my brain works.

    Making music for +20 years, plugins come and go, if the DAW is proper, then you dont really need anything else. All these basics are already in Ableton Live for example
    But the PRO-Q 3 is really good though, ableton has the best reverb, the hybrid reverb. Saturation should be real multiband
