-- How to remove noise from vocals with ERA5 (mic hiss, hum, de-essing) --
More and more tools are coming onto the market to help you remove background noise from audio and the ERA5 by Accusonus makes it so easy to simply make your voice sound better!
Mic hiss and hum that find their way into an audio recording are often not obvious until you need to add compression. One of the worst places this can happen is on a vocal, either in a recording session or an interview.
The ERA5 Bundle helps you remove noise from audio, not only hissing and hum but plosives, esses and mouth clicks. De-essing a vocal is necessary to keep the sharp esses and T sounds under control and stop them poking out of a recording and making it sound harsh.
In this video, I give the Noise Remover and De-Esser modules a run for their money on a vocal subgroup that has a bad dose of mic hiss and some sibilance issues too.

Do you have any common problems with vocal recording? Let me know!
Vocals are not really a problem for me (it's the only thing I actually get right ). I record my own voice and being very familiar with it, I know how it should sound. Everything else in the process however, is a different matter. Your videos have helped me tremendously in coming to terms with some of the more important issues. Acoustic guitar and bass EQ sitting in the mix correctly. I use a Royer R10 on the acoustic guitar, a AKG C414 on vocals, and an SM 57 on bass cabinet. After watching your videos I'm leaning more toward my room being a significant issue. The room lies to me and more importantly influences my EQ choices. I will be addressing the room acoustics in the very near future. Thanks for all that you do to help take some of the mystery out of the mixing process and most importantly keeping it simple and easy to understand. Bravo!
@@outofthinair1 I'm glad to be able to help! Have you tried something like Sonarworks? It might help.
@@SaraCarterSimplyMixing Funny you should mention Sonarworks I looked at it a while ago, and I'm now taking a more serious look at it. Before I throw a whole bunch of money on acoustic treatment, I'll give it a try. If nothing else it will show me where my problems are. Thanks for the fast reply
Sara , thank you I have got too purchase that bundle
Another super useful insight toawards a daily issue we all stumble upon.. Many many thanks Sara... 👍👍👊
My pleasure!
Nice One, Sara. Much Appreciliked. 🌹😎🎶🎼🔉
Thank you kindly!
Very useful.
Thanx!
Glad it was helpful!
A great, easy to understand video. I've had the ERA bundle for about a year now, and found it really easy to use, with less artifacts than some similar plugins. I use it for vocals, videos and podcast/voiceovers, as well as on instruments. The 'Audio Clean-up Assistant' is invaluable.
Great to hear!
Really enjoying your videos, Sara! Thanks for the information and great work. Cheers from South Wales, NY, USA! -chaz
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you Sara appreciated always
You are so welcome
What I find most difficult to deal with are WHISTLING sibilants. When a speaker ends a words that has a s, and introduces a whistling sound, usually due to breathing on the teeth.
Sara you have brilliant ears
Thank you!! 😂
I only have the Era5 Leveler, I got it free somehow and I've been thinking if investing in the RX medium package or this one for some years. Thanks for the video!
RX is great, you can do much more with it than just noise reduction. It depends what your needs are.
i do use WAVES NS1 and Acon digital to fix the noise problem but i always try to go back and record it with out noise so i stop and thing that can make noise i also decrease the CPU performance so the CPU Fan run on a low RPM
what 'grot box' speakers do you have on the right there? I'm looking for a pair but the iLoud from IK seems too good for the purpose I guess..
They’re just some boomy Bose pc speakers. They highlight a mix that’s bass light or bass heavy for me. For a mid range check I have some cheap Pyle speakers for that.
Hello,i'm salman from indonesia, and nice to meet you
Hi Salman!
Thanks for the video, can this plugin it help with removing noise from acoustic guitar recording?
If its hiss, I don’t see why not but if it’s more like string squeak then I’m not so sure @accusonus ?
@@SaraCarterSimplyMixingas for me, string squeak even pleasant sometimes)) Day before yesterday I subscribed to many channels about sound and mixing, and for now I find your channel most useful for me, so thanks. Do you have any courses or something like that?
Howdy , from deep in the heart of Texas
Hi there!
Any other way to remove hiss cause the hiss still there when I use era
You could look @izotope RX for Music Production
Sadly, it looks like Era no longer exists. Or at least they aren't accepting new customers. I guess I'm stuck with Izotope. Wanted to see if this worked any better.
Yes I believe that's the case. The Waves NS1 is great for removing simple background hiss or hums, but iZotope RX is the king for fixing most noise problems.
