When Was Silica Born for Tyres?
Silica actually started to appear in motorcycle tyres in the 1990s in the racing scene. It was a key factor in reducing wet lap times. Riders began to see a 2 to 3 second reduction in wet lap times when using tyres containing Silica for the first time, and in turn the extra grip the Silica provided allowed manufacturers to produce tyres with sharper profiles.
WHAT IS TIRE ROLLING RESISTANCE?
When you press down on the accelerator in your vehicle, you are essentially transferring energy-in the form of gas or electricity, depending on your automobile, through the engine and other systems in your vehicle. That results in your tires turning and enough momentum being built up to move your automobile. To accomplish this, though, your vehicle must overcome a lot of different factors that can make it resistant to forward movement. One of those factors is the tires’ rolling resistance
CAN ROLLING RESISTANCE BE AVOIDED?
Rolling resistance is going to happen whenever a tire makes contact with a road surface. However, although it can’t be avoided, it can be minimized. Since tire rolling resistance is caused by hysteresis, tires can be engineered with specially formulated tread compounds that are more resistant to heat generation and constructed to minimize tire deflection for less energy loss. These are known as low rolling resistance tires.
ARE THERE BENEFITS TO LOW ROLLING RESISTANCE TIRES?
For drivers who are interested in optimizing their vehicle’s fuel efficiency, the answer is yes. Low rolling resistance tires can be much more fuel-efficient tire than conventional tires. The U.S. Department of Energy has done research that shows that utilizing low rolling resistance tires can have as much as a 10% fuel savings impact for drivers. However, for most drivers, the fuel savings is around 3%. Although that doesn’t sound like a lot, those numbers can add up over time and result in a substantial savings in fuel spending and waste.
ARE THERE COMPROMISES WITH LOW ROLLING RESISTANCE TIRES?
Like most things in life, you can’t get something without giving a little, and the same holds true for low rolling resistance tires, unless new technology is introduced. For example, a tire manufacturer can reduce tread depth to improve rolling resistance. However, there will be a corresponding reduction in tire wear life. To overcome this tradeoff, new technology could be designed to maintain the wear performance, while still improving rolling resistance.

Sir, i liked the content of this video. I have a Ritz vdi which has clocked 86k, this is going to be the 2time i will be replacing the tyres. I use the car mostly for long drives with family and occasional city use. I am hoping to use this car for atleast another 30 to 40k kms which will take about 3yrs for me to complete. Question :
I have bought an XL6 and would be getting it delivered this Friday. The stock tyres shipped with the car are Bridgestone Ecopia (185,65,R15).
I was thinking of upsizing it to (195,65,R15) or if that will cost me fuel efficiency then would be going to other brand (with same configuration) like Yokohama Earth 1 or Michelin considering bad feedback of Ecopia.
I am confused about the same, could you please suggest me if I should go for upsizing or upgrade or if the tyres coming with the car are reliable. I am falling short of time and resources to get knowledge from so please guide me.
195/60/R15 will be better. Ecopia is an excellent tyre I would suggest you to use. Michelin and Earth 1 are also excellent

I've upgraded wagon r lxi 2014 model tyres. Old tyre Size- 145/80 r 13.
New tyre size - 155/80 r 13.
But average is only 10/km.
Running is around 10 kms per day.

Yokohama Earth1 tires are best in each and every aspect. I bought Amaze diesel last month with came with Bridgestone Ecopia tires, the problem i was facing is that it makes tire noise inside the cabin and lack of high speed stability so i replaced and up sized with Yokohama Earth1 from 175/65 R14 to 185/65 R14. Even after im getting mileage of 26.5kmpl on highway by maintaining speed 80km. Just go for Yokohama. Its life is approx 85000km.

You are absolutely right, same feedback here, I had a factory fitted birdgestone ecopia for my Dezire 2017, road noise was the issue though I had only one puncture during 36k run, then I changed to Yokohama earth 1, the tyres are really good, very low road noise, very good grip on wet and dry, now 37k run, can run more, I have already purchased new set of Yokohama earth 1 tyres from Amazon ( during festival sale )

I purchased new Ignis on 25.11.20. which run for approx 7 thousand km and the OE fitted Bridstone tyre (ECOPIA) of Left rear wheel got flat on highway and just escaped from accident. Bridstone denied to replace showing Tread Cut/ cut penetration.

Bridgestone B290 or Yokohama Earth1 or Michelin energy XM2. All are equally good. In terms of cost wise, michelin is costly. The other 2 are cheaper and has better life as well
