At the farewell tour, at Manchester UK, at the very end, Tom came back on stage by himself. He never said a word. He just stood there and took a whole 5 minutes to look the entire crowd in the eye, slowly, moving his head from his left to right, so he directly looked at everyone at that gig. It was very moving. Something i will never forget.
I saw the video of him do that at the very last show. It was ..I don't even know how to describe it. So emotional. Like a funeral, if that makes sense. Just him, no bass to stand behind, no band at his side. Just a guy saying goodbye. It was a tearjerker
What's awesome is Slayer had the GREATEST ending to ANY of our favorite bands. Going out with the entire crowd chanting your name. Such immortality is only dreamed of.
He did this in Dallas. Then he walked slowly to the ends of the stage looking out into the audience taking in everything. Like he was taking mental photographs of each and every one of us. Then he slowly walked off the stage. It was one of the saddest moments of my life.
Look at the other comments, he did it at other shows too, that’s incredible that it seems he was quite literally taking in and looking at all his fans, making that connection
He hardly said anything when they played arizona, he merely looked out into each section and everyone in the crowd erupted. Not since Paul walkers farewell in fast and furious were so many grown men choked up. You really could tell that was it for him, no gimmicks no future revival on the horizon, even on the screens you knew he was looking at each and every one of us in the crowd for the very last time.
And if you watch his recent interviews you can see how much he is enjoying retirement. Big props to Kerry. He wasn't ready to call it quits, but he did the right thing and respected Tom's wishes. No Tom = no Slayer. He graciously disbanded Slayer to grant his wishes.
Over the years I've had most of my tattoos removed, but the 1 I simply refuse to remove is my original Slayer Tattoo. Got it in 1987 at the age of 18. They have been my favorite band since 1986. Thank you Tom. I have many Slayer memories but mostly seeing the pit that started the second they hit the stage. Never saw so many people with bloody noses headed toward the medical tent. :O
I worked a load in and load out for Slayer back in 2004 and hung out with Tom, just the two of us on the bus for several hours before the show. He is one of the nicest, humble and down to earth people I’ve ever met. And a genuine good soul. He really deserves to be in the rock and roll history museum and should have a star in Hollywood.
Respekt Tom & deine Mannen. Chapeau Slayer. Auf immer & ewig. Thanks for everything, Slayer gives heavy metal a new meaning a different sound and that is why Slayer gets one of the best bands of the world thanks guys from Slayer
back when Slayer was just another unknown struggling band me and my guitar player were going to see them in a little town on the central California coast touring with Bitch and Trouble. But we spent so much time trying to find some intoxicants for the show we missed it. I didn't know anything about any of them and thrash metal was a new thing at that time. In hindsight both of us were and still are in the late 60's early 70's rock vibe so probably wouldn't even have like it. But I still wish I would have attended the show just to see what is was like. And I must admit I do like War Ensemble. Never heard another word about Bitch or Trouble so don't know if they made it or not.
Cant imagine not having new slayer songs on the way! Been a fan since the beginning! Angel of death became my song and many others after! South of heaven and seasons in the abyss are my two favorites!

Damn i was lucky that i could see (1st row) Slayer (almost original line up, Paul Bostaph on drums) & Pantera (original line up) back in 1998 when they were at Nummirock in Finland
I couldn't understand why he just walked away... until my grandson was born a year ago. I get it now and I'm pretty sure he won't be coming back. I need to have a pretty major back surgery but I refuse to do it as long as I can work and play with my grandson. The time off of work would be nice, but not being able to hold him for three months would be more than I'm willing to pay. I got all the back to 1986 with Slayer. I miss them, but I understand.
I thought exactly the same thing until my grandson came. I wish I could just chill and watch him grow up. Tom has more than earned the right to do the same. I still miss Slayer, but I understand 100%.
