Nice summary, I’ve been through several of the preventative (IMS, RMS) and had the A.O.Seperator crack, and failed coil packs.
190000km and 25 years old, got to simply show some awareness to these things

Why do you recommend the composite impeller water pump over the metal impeller?

When the bearings start to let go the impeller starts to wobble. Metal impeller digs into the housing sending metal shaving through the engine

@@justinbedingfield6954 Spot on. The crappy bearing design can't handle the added mass of the metal impeller and when it fails, it takes the engine block out.

Variocam pads - is this an issue for 996.2 Carerras as well?

Variocam chain ramp wear pads are found on five chain Boxster from 97-02 and 996 models from 99-01.

Class action suit on shaft bearing
    Should have happened

The Porsche IMS bearing was actually the subject of a class action suit well over a decade ago. The original website is long gone, but here is a summary of the settlement: casetext.com/case/eisen-v-porsche-cars-n-am
