@@Aegmog Who deliberately selected a missile so cheap they knew it would miss, forcing a warship that defence analysts have criticised for years over it's limited payload, thusly requiring costly logistic support that compounds the already high cost munition trade off. I am guessing you are new to both war and economics....

This is not the way to decide defence spending. I go to the supermarket with a list of what I need and try to get it at the least cost. I do not go in with a fixed percentage of a week's wage then buy stuff until I run out of money.
Work out what we want the military to do. Decide what equipment they need to do that. Then work out the cheapest way to get that equipment. Then we can let the accountants work out what percentage that is of GNP.
