I’ve stayed when it was a JW and as a Leela. Leela has made this property a 1000x better. I personally feel that these large hotel chains such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt need to stay in the big metros. Bringing them to small cities like Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra ruins the cities charm.
The traditional brands, perhaps- but I think each of the hotel groups has some brands that would do distinctly well in India, Alila being one of them. Thanks for watching 🩴
Thank you, Kevin for another review of such a beautiful property!!! This time I had 4 of my friends sit down and watch this on our big screen at home!!!! I think you have more fans!!! 🙂. I could see myself immersing at the Pool side. Sukh Mahal Restaurant certainly looks very pleasing to dine. Loved the various colors and range of food on offer!!! I quickly jumped on-line and thought the prices were reasonable to stay!!! Thanks Kevin, and look forward to more experiences and travels of India :🙂

Another superb review, Kevin. I think this one surpasses all your hotel reviews. Truly great and what a restaurant to have meal with a loved one. Fabulous ❤
This seems like the best value out of all the others. Definitely the one I'd choose if I could go to one hotel out of any from this trip. A full board package pool villa for cheaper than the vast majority of the other hotels you visited this time I believe. I was shocked by this one, especially after the Leela in Udaipur! PS: I was looking at your Patreon page to take a look at the membership options and came across a post preview that gave me the quiz guess: would it be, Waldorf Astoria Cancun?
After you mentioned in the intro, this hotel started out to be originally a JW Marriott, I couldn’t help but wonder during the video, how different this place would have looked 😆 What an extraordinary dinner experience you had, just magical 💫 Thank you for another wonderful review!
Yeah I was thinking the same thing while I was there- but that restaurant, if it truly did take 3 years to craft, then that was part of the JW plan which surprised me haha. Thanks for watching 🩴
On the basis of watching this video we had the Thali dinner last week at Mohan Mahal. We weren't staying at this hotel but loved the dinner on of the best meals ever
Some interesting Facts about Leela Group : Founder of Leela Group, Captain C P Krishnan Nair was Captain in Indian Army (I reckon, that discipline is reflecting in his hotel group). Secondly, Leela is his wife name.
Unbelievably beautiful... and elegant and refined taste in this hotel. Thank you so much for taking this video and all others as well. You make a most remarkable collection of the Hotels in India that reflect such a rich and refined heritage in more than one art. So generous of you and such a good choice you always make.

Mohan mahal was looking great. Definitely going on a date to mohan mahal when we visit jaipur. BTW Amazing quality as usual, thank you for your unbiased & REAL reviews. This feels so fresh and it feels great to not worry about wasting our money as it's Flip Flop Approved.
I would travel 8000 miles just to dine at that restaurant. Btw I think the mirror effect is a recreation of one of the rooms in an ancient palace not far away in Rajasthan. Seen videos of it but don't recollect the name. Maybe someone can enlighten in the comments
Thanks for the review of what seems to be an excellent hotel, makes me want to travel from “too far away” Australia just for the restaurant experience alone. 😂
Hey Kevin love your content keep up the good work.explore Indian safari also next time.there are great properties like Oberoi vanyavilas and Aman I khas which you can explore in your future India trips

I must admit, i had no idea such opulence existed in India and i guess most of the world. This is what the British aristocracy would have enjoyed in India, that is the standards it is set to. When i first tasted Biryani on my flight from Dubai to Mumbai, i thought it was the most magnificent thing i had ever eaten. i feel sorry for all the people that would die without once ever tasting a reality good Biryani plate. Like now, i want to taste that soup! It sounds like it was out of this world. i am hoping someone from India would be able to say where else one can get that soup so that i can ask for it when i eat at an Indian restaurant.
Oh it gets much much much more opulent in India than this one lol. Not to get into a colonial conversation, but I promise you, Indian hospitality sets their own standards which would put 'British aristocracy' to shame in this day and age lol
Meat broth soups in this part of India would typically be a ‘shorba’. Often includes marrow, bone broth and spices - very difficult to find good ones at a restaurant. Hope this helps you find some near you
It you are going to be in the area with the Taj Mahal and the Pink Palace, it seems like a good location? How far is the Taj Mahal from here, does anyone know? They say you have to be at the Taj Mahal before sunrise.
Well I'm sure by now, many high end hotel groups themselves must have been viewing your video to revaluate them and to know little details about their rivals as well. Good work bro 👍🏻

Hey Kevin, I see that in your Jaipur series, you went for the Fairmont next. Was there a reason why you chose that over perhaps the Oberoi?, which everyone regards as one of the best in Jaipur. Just wanted to see your thought process in choosing it. Thanks
Another fantastic video Kevin. Hoping you do a comparison with the Fairmont as they are in the same area but the Leela looks far superior. I spent 4 nights in the Fairmont when it opened and I would not repeat. I knew it was in the middle of nowhere but at least 7 or 8 years ago, it was hard to get any transport other than overpriced hotel transportation to go anywhere . As a visitor doing sightseeing, it was certainly a pain. Also, the core business were weddings so I thought that the service and food were not great. Curious to see if things are different now so looking forward to your video of the hotel.
My Fairmont video is coming out next week. I don't like to give away the plot before I release videos... but the Fairmont is by far worst hotel I've ever stayed at in India. That includes quite a few 3 & 4 star hotels I stay at behind the scenes and don't make videos about...
@araucariapasquale1 A bit ironically, your concerns will be very specifically addressed in the first couple of minutes of the video haha. Just watch, you'll understand!

There is no expectation of tipping. In fact, many hotels have a no hand-to-hand tipping policy (you can tip the pool only), Oberoi being the largest example.
Great video and fantastic content. Looking at this fabulous hotel, western countries cannot even dream of building such hotels. Western companies may have been consulted to incorporate modern design and architecture, but they can never build such hotels in Europe in their lifetime. Because they do not have the same culture. It makes a big difference in thinking about the grandeur.
Nobody can deny the artisan beauty of india its just that bit of last social civil upgrading of publics life thats all alon with social civil infrastructure

Pretty hard to imagine Mohan Mahal at a JW Marriott, they are all functionality which is suited for business destinations, never visited any JW resort and decor is bland to my taste. We can bash them as much we want but JW as a brand is growing strongly maybe people are habituated for their style. Marriott is a top company with many smart people working for it so they must be doing something right and we don't know the x factor why their choices are working.
There are plenty of JWs out there that I like and I think they have a well carved out niche for themselves. That said, I agree a venue like Mohan Mahal would likely never "fit" into a JW concept. Since MM was clearly created for JW originally, it makes me wonder if investment and design destails like this were in fact part of the dispute between the owners and Marriott. Thanks very much for the support 🙏

Hi Kevin you mentioned that after hearing lamb soup you died a little inside for me what is not clear is it because of excitement because your previous lamb dish was fantastic or sadness because you have extreme emotions with lamb dishes
Lol I think I said it pretty specifically 😂 I don't like gamey meats- lamb is often very gamey and the fat is usually the gamiest part. I didn't have a menu and the soup was presented to me as "Lamb Fat Broth" so I expected it to taste very gamey.
"pretentious" sounds about right..appears pretty gaudy actually, lacking in finesse of the Taj Palace, Lake palace etc! I think they are trying too hard perhaps!
Ugh. Not the video but the property. Looks like a typical Hollywood execution of Indian royalty. No wonder the world sees us this way. Just unreal. Leela is just Gaudi. They have to, just have to make it loud. I am pretty sure none of the heritage palaces have been given to them by the royals. Leela has no respect for the place, they impose themselves wherever they go. Layers after layers of how not to overdo a property.
I would note that of all of the upscale Indian hotels I've stayed at, Leela's by far attract the most locals, so they must be doing something right in the eyes of some Indians.
People these days are whiners and wingers. They all want service but whinge when extra attention is paid. I remember one incident where I stayed for a week at a Indian hotel. One guest who sounded American or Canadian ( I can never make the difference) had an argument with a staff ( the guest winging of course) the staff basically told the guest to fuck off . Apparently the staff was ordered into the office and probably sacked. So foreigners when you go to another country don’t expect service to your country’s standard. Accept what’s offered or don’t go there.
I prefer to tell folks where they failed in their service so that they can do better. As I would want someone to tell me how to improve. Do you prefer that everyone not say a word about the service and never return, and the place shuts down because of lack of business and they all lose their jobs? Surely you don't want that to happen? I think because I care, I would inform them on where they could improve. Sometimes it is because they are not aware of what is required. Service industry companies in the US sometimes hire ordinary citizens to go to their hotels/restaurants etc and evaluate how they are doing. I worked at a company that did that at the restaurant I worked at. We never knew who this 'mystery guest' was going to be, we only found out weeks later when this person would turn in their evaluation. And sometimes it could be brutal if you were not performing to par. Even companies that are successful will do this continuously as they all feel there is room for improvement. A couple of times I have called the corporate office to complain about the service I received at one of their locations and they would often ask if they could send me a coupon and I would decline, as I always enjoyed the franchise and they needed to know where they could be failing. I do not want them to go out of business as they provide a value service with their type of facility in my community. I respectively disagree with your way of dealing with the issue.
this indian hotel series is getting out of hands someone stop this man.....such awesomeness
I thought this was going in a different direction haha. Thanks very much 🙏🏻

Leela has no respect for the place, they impose themselves wherever they go. Layers after layers of how not to overdo a property.
I would note that of all of the upscale Indian hotels I've stayed at, Leela's by far attract the most locals, so they must be doing something right in the eyes of some Indians.
It looks so good, you people can't digest some good thing
People these days are whiners and wingers. They all want service but whinge when extra attention is paid. I remember one incident where I stayed for a week at a Indian hotel. One guest who sounded American or Canadian ( I can never make the difference) had an argument with a staff ( the guest winging of course) the staff basically told the guest to fuck off . Apparently the staff was ordered into the office and probably sacked. So foreigners when you go to another country don’t expect service to your country’s standard. Accept what’s offered or don’t go there.
What on earth are you talking about? All I did in this video was continuously praise the service. Valiant attempt at trolling on your part, I suppose.
Very boring content
You sound like a hoot as well.
