- Koning hot hatch was jaren lang de Renault Mégane RS maar nu is er een achterwielaandrijver bijgekomen: de BMW M135i! Kan hij het de sportieveling uit Dieppe lastig maken? Twee witte schichten maken elkaar het leven zuur.

I'm BMW-fan but I think the Renault looks AMAZING. I can't choose a side, because I've never driven any of these 2, but the Renault looks better.
NO, this is a M Performance car, not a M one. That makes difference. The e82 1M had the same running gear as the e92 M3, the M135i has the normal 1er running gear, a bit tuned. That is, you can't expect the same performance between these 2 cars. You're also talking about the MRS TROPHY laptime, which is the extreme version of the MRS, dedicated to race track. Have you tried to live with its chassis all day long? I guess no, so don't talk about comfort in it. Let's wait for the next 1M or M2 ;)

I love both cars, megane rs is seriously fast hot hatch and the 135i is equally as good

I have a Megane RS 250 Cup at the moment but upgrading to BMW M135i.
Renault is great around the twisty stuff, but for daily use the ride with cup suspension is ridiculously firm and the interior isn't really the nicest place to be in. No contest against BMW. I've only had it for two months, but it's built quite well. Hardly any rattles.
Even thought both cars are high performance hatches, they are in very different market for real buyers. People who only cares about performance will go for Megane because it's the cheaper one. People who wants something more luxury will always go for the M135i. There is a very clear line between these 2 cars. I believe the overall driving experience will be similar. and in terms of out right performance and luxury refinement, BMW wins. and in terms of price, Megane wins. That's it.
Because the renault RS 2L engine WON against Nissan Z370 which is 3.7L engine!
Bmw is better because: RWD, softer ride, more premium interior, Significantly faster, better looking, better on fuel, and the simple fact its not french which means its not going to fall apart.
And before you ask i have driven both, only downside to BMW is the option are typical german gyip, but that said there is significantly more kit available with the BMW.
People seems to forget and underestimate megane Rs is Renault Sports which is same league as M power, AMG, RS,etc. Not to mention its experience in F1 motorsports. 135i is a sporty version of normal BMW. Nothing to with a true sports cars u can take it on track.

times at the nurburgring are all about the driver and knowledge of the track, you can only compare times if it's the same driver

it s just about being a very good all rounder ... A 1 series driver is more comfortable than a megane in every way but just as sporty actually more driver oriented(RWD+50-50 weight distribution) but you don t have to take my word for it u can just do test drives as i did (i also wanted to buy a megane) BMW don t state to making a car that excels at something it is supposed to be good at everything :) cheers
How does the M135i cost twice as much. OTR price of the meg trophy is £27,820 and the beemer is £29,995 hardly twice the price is it? You can twist it however you want to but the beemer is the better car, at the end of the day your still left with a renault. The meg may have marginally better lap times but the 1er will be ALOT more fun, theres no substitute for 320hp and rwd. The only downside to the 1er is the way it looks.
BMW: quality, reliabilty, comfort, alot of standard equip(leather,b/t, dynamic control, large screen)
The seats in the megane are ten time better tho. The bmw has old man couches lol

BMW 1 M Coupe needs 8:15 with stock tyres and the stock setup. The Megane had race tyres and a special Nordschleifen-Setup. With race tyres and a good setup the 1 M Coupe would be below 8:10 for sure.
Guys i had owned a new megane sport 2009 and it used to draw a big smile on my face when ever i take it for a spin!
The feeling while driving this car got no match period,in that price!

MRS Trophy is what Renault Sport offers for track days, you can't compare it to the M135i, which is supposed to be a daily car, and therefore not as stiff as the MRS. The M135i laptime is very respectable given its purpose. That said, the MRS is definitely the ruler in its segment (FWD hot hatch).
The BMW is better, people focus too much on the price, which in Australia isn't much of a difference between these two.

Volgens mij koop je een hot hatch niet om op het circuit te gaan rijden. Af en toe een dagje zou eventueel kunnen, maar voornamelijk is hij toch bedoeld voor de openbare weg. Zou daarom zelf ook liever even doorsparen.

Actually not true. The Megane set it's Nordschleifen record on Bridgestone RE050A road tyres and was a stock standard road car.

Drove both, bought the Megane, the beemer was quicker in a straight line but Meg handling left beemer for dead and was plenty fast enough. Quick chip upgrade equals 230kw and best handling in class. Add 15k cheaper price and a no brainer really. Iam not anti bmw either, currently also own a Z4, just the Meg puts a smile on the face every time and in my opinion looks heaps better too
why didn't they compare the bmw with the renault megane trophy v6?
I don't want to touch(or drive) ANY french cars(with or without stick). From what Ive seen all of them suck(excluding the 106gti and the 206gti)I checked around and the Meg IS faster on "the Ring" but its slower on Magny-Cours then the M135i and if I remember correctly almost all "HOT" Megs came with slicks so I think I know why its faster on the ring. And like I said the BMW is just a higher class car then the Renault that is it, end of story.

have you even ever driven and owned a BMW ? Because I have owned reanual Megane and now i own a 5 series and quality and fun wise ... forget about it...
BMW isn't replacement of the M1 coupe. I didn't get the answer to the question - is it a true M-car. I think the conclusion is that the Renault is more of a true hot hatch. The Renault grips better, but the BMW is much more refined (albeit more expensive).
I hope that's at least something worthwhile.
Well thats the price in the UK and im no fan, i just buy a car on merit, i couldnt care less about brand loyalty. Ive owned a vauxhall, a VW, a SEAT and soon a BMW, if anything im more loyal to VAG than BMW but whatever, clearly the little 1er has upset the renault crowd judging by the replys im getting off you lot.

Tweedehandse mk7 GTI kost hier in België 25.000 euro (voor een 2013 met ongeveer 20.000km), een M135i met dezelfde cijfers kost ongeveer 30.000 euro. Wat zou ik doen, de golf kopen of doorsparen voor de BMW?
+Minutemadex je betaald veel te veel voor performance dan.... laat andere mensen die eerste 5 jaar van auto's leeftijd afschrijven en kan jij profiteren. Neem bijv een 350z als je graag sportief wilt scheuren, veel meer tuningsmogelijkheden.
Ik heb uiteindelijk kunnen beslissen. Ben toch voor een megane RS gegaan zoals tezien is op deze video. Ik ben ook begonnen met zelf video's met de megane rs te maken op dit youtube kanaal :-)

this is the reason M cars are such good sellers and it has always been this way belive it or not.. Guess in your opinion all the thousands of people who bought M cars to this day so that they could have a every day car in which they could also have enormous fun are wimps ... Each with his own opinion ..
RWD, 55 more hp, 110 more Nm of torque, faster 0-100km/h, faster 0-160km/h, faster 1000m, a lovely straight six sound and a much better interior. I love the Megane RS but the winner here is pretty obvious...

You made a mistake making this review, 125i is his real comparable rival, not an 135i 3l 6 cylinder .

Oh and why do renault make the engines out of mars bars? Ive always wondered that, maybe they spend to much money on the amazingly high quality interior you speak of, or loads and loads of sound proofing so to make the megane refined. Still you'd think they'd find something better than chocolate.

renault maybe a good car but it's no match for the bmw M135i. BMW is in a totally different league and an M is even further.
I can't imagine an FWD car ever handling as well as a RWD car with similar power. There are lots of tricks to get the power down but ultimately FWD is a compromise and a disadvantage.

Thats because for those 27,800 in Megane you get a fully loaded car, with 1 series you dont even get fog lights for those 29,000. And you get a smaller car that is less comfortable. As for fun...dont underestimate a hot hatch until you drive one. Many would agree they're as fun to drive on the limit as RWD cars. Megane also is more usable, it will faster on the wet and more usable on the snow. Lets also not forget that Megane is faster even than 1M on Nurburgring and tracks.

I think it is always a bit tricky to compare the M135i to the Megane RS. One is probably the best all around hatch and one is pretty much the best sport oriented hatch. If you talking about Fun factor, Megane is mostly likely to win, But if you want the everyday usability, luxury and out right performance, M135i is the one to take. So, M135i is the better car and Megance is more fun to drive. 1M is better than Megance Period, but it is also much much more expensive again. so again, very tricky.

Some fan you are for not knowing that Megane RS actually outperforms the 1M on a track, let alone a 135i. Its also FWD so its going to be more usable on wet / snow. Megane has more space inside than the 1 series, has equally big trunk, scores better in terms of safety on euroncap, you can get all the same equipment the 135i has, etc. The only thing that 135i does better is it has a slightly better made interior. In everything else Megane is better or just as good. People are just ignorant.
Megane all the way for me. Bmw totally boring postman pat hatch with a big motor. I say that as a Z4 owner so not anti BMW but the RS is the worlds best all around hot hatch period in my book

Also, we can twist it as much as we can, but 1 series is in nothing much better than Megane RS. Not even in interior quality which was sometimes a big difference between premium brands and others. I'd argue 1 series feels cheaper than Megane inside in many details. And in Megane you get more space, as good sound proofing and better refinement and comfort. Megane RS is more comfy than regular 1 series, let alone M-sport one.
Wow this sure is a fair comparisson. Fact is, despite the M being more powerful and being RWD still gets ass handed by Renault at most tracks.
And yes, you're right, at the end of the day, BMW is a BMW, Megane is still just a Renault, a brand who dominates in F1 for years and has always been on the top of some racing division. Renaultsport know how to make a sports car, just as good as M-division in BMW can.
Megane belongs to Renault Sports while 135i is just a BMW M sports nothing to do with M power. They are Two different levels.
