- While at Overland Expo East 2022 we decided to replace our 1973 Airstream trailer with a true overland trailer for our van. Here is a tour of the rig that got us into the van life.
Thanks for the video tour, really nice work you’ve done on it, so many details covered and elements refined and improved.
Thanks for the positive feedback! Always nice to hear!
Great build! I'm building out a 1978 right now. Any chance you recall where you ordered the navy coffin bunks from? I'm been looking online and no luck. Thanks
Thanks, I looked through my emails we ordered the "US NAVY Berthing Rack 81.5" Long" from Surplusmeister, LLC 1619D Diamond Springs Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23455, they still have an eBay store so you might want to reach out and see if they can source you some, we purchased ours back in June of 2018 and I don't even want to tell you that they were only $175 each, the shipping for both was $320, and they were like brand new. Hope you are able to get your hands on some they work out perfect and they are supr light weight. Best of luck!
Thanks a million, appreciate the reply and info!!
love your walk around, sound coach, funny that you say the only damage to the body work is on the front corner and then behind the door is these massive deep scratches! I mean i understand the coach is 50 years old but i don't understand why you didn't mention it!!
Thanks for the feedback, we do our best at being as detailed as we can, considering this tour was unscripted and shot off the hip their is always room for improvement. Thanks again... Hope you'll keep watching.
Did your AS ever sell? I have a 1973 sovereign that I’m restoring myself…interested what they go for incase I sell..
We ended up selling it for $45,000, based on the level of work and money we put into it, I would suggest not getting in the business of flipping them. The buyer 100% got a great deal on a vintage Airstream Trailer that will go another 20-40 Years.
Hi, I’m interested in purchasing. What’s the best way to connect?
Hope you'll keep in touch, would love to see some photos!
What did you do for insulation?
We used Reflectix Double Reflective, Double Bubble Insulation, I put a double layer of this insulation in the walls and floor, I didn't want any problems with Fiberglass or Havelock Wool getting wet from a leak or condensation down the road. The insulation value ranges between R-3 & R-21 depending on the way it is installed, Based on the fact I have a double layer with an air gap I'd estimate an R-value of R-10 to R-15.
