  • Today's episode we FINALLY go after some prehistoric fish in the St. Lawrence. We fish for one of the most powerful freshwater fish around - the mighty Sturgeon! It's been 2 years since I last fished for these amazing creatures and pro guide Mark Currie doesn't waste any time putting me on the biggest fish I've caught all year and tries his best to make my arms fall off!
Just in case you're thinking about fishing for these monsters yourself, I give a breakdown of the required tackle and setup, and below is the full list of the gear you'll need that I show in the video:
Shimano TDR 8'6" Medium Heavy Trolling Rod: amzn.to/35kbqFC
    Okuma Convector 30DLX Reel: amzn.to/310ojkK
Mustad UltraPoint Demon Wide Gap Circle Hooks 4/0: amzn.to/2pXNQyn
    5oz No-Roll Teardrop Sinker: amzn.to/2Mor9e9
    Glow-In-The-Dark Fishing Beads Pack: amzn.to/31ZL0ae
Swivel and Clasps (Get the 50lbs or 80lbs rated): amzn.to/3102jGR
Seaguar Blue Label 40lbs Test Fluorocarbon Leader: amzn.to/33fPidE
So grab yourself some snacks and I really hope you enjoy some of the best fishing of the year with some awesome giant fish acrobatics, some great laughs and of course some awesome smallmouth bass action to finish the day. Please don't forget to push that subscribe button, and please drop a like or comment if you have a minute to spare!
Once again, a HUGE thank you to Mark for taking me out for this amazing experience. If you're ever around the Montreal area and want to give this a shot, you can contact Mark and book a trip through his site at www.advancedbas...
Thanks again for watching and as always, tight lines my friend!

No worries and good luck on your outing! Definitely not a fish I would eat though, tastes absolutely nasty to me haha WAAAAYYY too strong a taste for me. Honestly I don't know anyone that actually eats it hehe

@@DanRichardFishing really? I've been catching it and grilling it. I find the taste very mild compared to bass which tastes like the lake water. I also tried deep frying it and it's just great. Maybe not the very large ones, but a baby around 90cm have been going great for me. Maybe you need a better recipe lol

You need more fishing trips with your friend Mark, he is so entertaining and doesn't hold back, now you can't be struggling with those fish with the guns you have....ha..ha. That's like reeling in a huge Kingfish, it does feel like an hour has passed only after 5 minutes. Amazing fishing trip on the St. Lawrence with hooking the Biggens.

Hahah Mark is the best, he's got this dry sarcastic wit that I absolutely love and I do have to edit out a ton of our conversations to keep things youth friendly lol! Hahah yeah we gotta keep them gym gains going to reel in the beasts! I haven't been in months due to the dang covid craziness :( 💪

Of course you can when they are in season in zone 8 (around Montreal). You can even keep one, daily limit is 1 from mid June to end of March.

Dan Richard Fishing St. Lawrence River sturgeon a protected species; don’t fish for them or land them
State conservation officers are reminding people fishing in the St. Lawrence River that sturgeon are a threatened species and should not be caught.

@@americanobmw5106 I'm not in the US and they are no longer considered protected here in Quebec as of years ago, the water is actually infested with them. We are completely allowed to fish for them in my region. There are no such recommendations that exist in our area.

@@americanobmw5106 Here's the list of regulations for Zone 8... scroll down a little bit for Sturgeon and you can see there's even a catch limit, so not only can we catch them, but we can keep 1 a day (which I don't do). peche.faune.gouv.qc.ca/regpec/en/Info/Reglements?id_zone=8
