  • People probably know Stu Kimball best as Bob Dylan’s guitarist. Between joining Dylan’s “Never Ending Tour” in 2004 and leaving it in 2018, Stu strapped on his guitar for 1,323 shows, the most that any guitarist has ever played alongside the iconic singer-songwriter. He has made significant contributions to seven Dylan albums, including 2006’s Grammy-winning, Platinum selling Modern Times.
Stu was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease in 2019 but doesn't let this diagnosis stop him from doing what he loves. He continues to perform as much as possible, and still finds the same joy in making and sharing music that he has for all his life. “I always try to play from the heart, to play with soul and conviction,” he says. On June 27, 2024 Stu performed at the Wall of Grass concert with joy and purpose that the cure of tomorrow is not so far from the care of today.
Wall of Grass is an interactive folk-music collective from Boston, Mass. that performs in the spirit of contributing to the greater good, raising much needed funds for local community service organizations. Dubbed as “Phil Spector meets Bill Monroe,” a “folkestra,” and a “folk-flash-mob,” the group plays in a big circle, often 20+ strong, in a style of music now lovingly known as “cluster-folk.” At their concerts, the group distributes songbooks and encourages concert attendees to sing, dance and clap along! Wall of Grass honored Stu, a longtime "Grasser," with a fundraising concert benefiting research conducted by Stu's physicians into early-onset Alzheimer's Disease at the MGH Frontotemporal Disorders Unit.
If you enjoy this concert, please consider making a donation in Stu's honor to the MGH FTD Unit at Because.MassGeneral.org/StuKimball.
