    Well your videos convinced me to give them a go again and a month in my new streps are flowering profusely and no sign of mould or mildew. You suggested to me there could have been an underlying issue like mites and I am now thinking you may be right, as they are all staying healthy and growing New buds this time x

      Fab! Good to know they're thriving! Mine, on the other hand, are suffering at 40°C in my greenhouse. They really don't like such high temperatures but as always with a greenhouse there's only so much you can do.🤷‍♂️

    Here in my part of the US., the main challenge to growing Streptocarpus is the summer heat. I tried growing one in the main part of the house and it didn't survive. This year, I have two in the basement where it is cooler under LEDs that survived. one is taking a hiatus from blooming but is getting new buds. The other just opened its first flower. Good to see you feeling better! Your plants look glad to have you back!

      Thanks Bob - you might be seeing more of me on video seeing as I won't be able to actually work for the rest of this year. Don't know if that's a good thing or not...🤣 Glad to hear you've found a setup that works for you. Sometimes, the more effort you have to go to, the more satisfying it is when you pull it off.

    Oooh.
    Stunning big, colorful flowers you got there. Never dared try one because flower plants have a reputation of being delicate, needing full sun if kept inside, being bug-magnet and to have very short-lasting blooming time.
    But these seem about as easy as African Violets, and those bloom pretty-much continuously with a couple hours of morning Sun.
    Do they come in true red? Even without red, I see several ones with plenty of rich colors catching my eye.
    Thank you for showing us these great Streptocarpus plants.

    I grow Streptocarpus. I have some mini and some regular varieties. I just purchased 4 new hybrids from Violet Barn in NY. Now usually when I get a plant, they look great and soon after bringing them home, I live in California in USDA Zone 9b, they start to bloom and they bloom a lot but as winter approaches, they slow down and then never come back. I have yellow leaves, saggy leaves, just sad looking plants that never bloom as profusely as they did when I brought them home. I do know that they like bright light, and I have mine under LED grow lights and I fertilize with a balanced fertilizer once a month. What else can I do to get them to look as amazing as yours? I also keep my house between a low of 65F (18C)(at night in winter) to a high of 78F (25C)(during the day in summer).

      I've always found that a good tidy up makes all the difference - but looking at your other comment I see you've found how I've been doing it! Maybe by pulling the weaker rosettes out it give more room and prevents them from getting too congested.

    Hi Geoff! Great to see another video! Your streps look AWESOME! I too noticed this past summer my streps apparently hated the heat. We too had a heat wave and temps for about 3 weeks were 95 - 100 F. I didn't have blooms most of the summer. Now they are staring to bloom again as we are in autumn and house temps are in the mid to upper 60's. One has come down with powdery mildew however. I hit it with some sulfur fungicide but as you know the leaves don't like that. I'm hoping it survives.
    What are the 3 nutrient numbers on Dibley's fertilizer bottle? 10-10-10? 15-30-15 ? or something else?
    I need to get that "Falling stars" strep! I love that one!

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah they soon show signs of distress with much above 25°C - although mine muddled through - just weren't at their peak like they are now. The NPK on the fertiliser tablets is 7-10-25, which is apparently a good ratio for most houseplants so use them in other stuff too. Just so convenient to drop a tablet in and I can do them all at once. (I'd send you a Falling Stars leaf to propagate if I thought it would survive the journey over there. Let me know if you want to give it a try.)

    • @Tommyr
      @Tommyr 2 роки тому

      @@Grow_Up_Man55 Thanks Geoff but with the way the mail system is moving now a days the leaf probably wouldn't survive. I don't think. Trying to find one over here in the states, no luck so far. Thanks for the fertilizer info. Good to see you back on video!
