Perhaps UA-cam isn't screwing the content creators directly, but their system allows blocks from labels/bands. Do these musicians really think us music students of the world would listen to a music theory video just to enjoy the finished piece ?!?!? Come on. Perhaps the Mick Fleetwood doesn't want other people to become good musicians? Who knows. This is ridiculous. Rick -- thanks for your great educational material !!!!

I think there is a market for your channel because there is hardly any if anyone that is an experienced producer/musician sharing free content, but at the same time your content is so well put together, and rich with information that people would only get if they pay for it from a website. I think the market is determining that people like yourself share a lot of free stuff but also have courses. The key is the free content though i think, as long as you keep that up you stay relevant, i think i speak for a few ppl in that i wont buy a course from someone who teases me with content.

I hated the music industry for many years and resented the gatekeeper system and was jealous of other bands getting deals when I thought I was better than they were. Then I got signed to a major label after many years of struggle, hatred, contempt and ridicule. I then loved the music industry, big budgets for recording, posh touring around the world, no more real job, spending all day writing and everything else, then it all ended and now the money is long gone.
I have a real job now. On the side I write, record and use the same damn platforms as everyone else where there sits tons of very cool music by very talented bands, many who would have been signed by a major label in my day, but who will never be heard by more than 100 people.
Now, instead of one greedy talented rock star making $1M we have 1M musicians making $1 ea.

GREAT channel, Rick. Just to vent a little, I covered 2 songs from the Eagles Desperado album - Bitter Creek and Doolin-Dalton. Doolin was taken down for a year after I racked a lot of views, then put back with no explanation. Bitter Creek was plain wiped out for a copyright strike, but there are many other covers of it on here. I don't get it. I'm just a guy with a tape recorder and some guitars playing songs that I like.
You are providing a great service here for all musicians and I'll commend you for sharing your knowledge. BTW, my channel is 2wheelsturnin....I seem to have messed up my settings since all-swallowing google has messed up what used to be fun for me. Anyway, keep 'em coming, I love your song breakdowns.

Hey Rick, I hadn't watched this video yet but thought I should comment anyway even if I'm a little late. What I learned about these huge bands blocking youtube videos with their music on is that they disagree with the low value they receive for each stream. They just don't wanna get paid a dollar for 100000 plays and it kind makes sense. Think Hendrix: I love the sound of his older(not remastered) vinyls and don't enjoy these new ones or cds as much and, if I can't listen to even his newer stuff online, I(in this case, the consumer in general) will feel a lot more inclined to buy a cd, vinyl, or even a download.
There has also been a lot of people who would find ways to monetize these artists' music and get a lot of views, which isn't great for the artist or the label. So, I think that for them it's a way to add value to their products and keep some sort of legacy while stopping piracy(can I call it that?).
In the end, I loved the vinyl rips and old footage that were available on youtube and watched them, even though I knew someone was making money over the work of other artists. They don't seem to have a problem with spotify cause there's no way someone will upload their music and I also believe most of them have some sort of deal to get a better payment per 1000 streams or something like that.
Also, I believe you'd be able to get a license to produce your videos from some of these bands, even though you might have to spend some time in their bureaucracy. Maybe it would still be worth it for you since you'd be the only one who can make videos on Led Zeppelin( I mention LZ cause if it happens someday you'll have made my decade worth it).

Another thing about "Go Your Own Way," there is a lot of rhythmic tension --syncopation (in vocal and instruments) and a relatively weak beat 1 in the intro in the verse. So when the chorus hits with a solid four on the floor, it's a release of that tension until the next verse. Though, by that time, the listener has found the downbeat. Great tune, and great analysis, Rick.

Megadeth were jazzier than you think in the early days, as Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland were jazzhounds and brought those influences into the band

Great content Rick. Love your work mate.
The big bands are the meanest motherf"ckers in the world. Mysanthropic.

If I were an old artist I would want people to use my content in the forms of lessons and analysis, those activities with the aid of a platform like UA-cam can only boost stream traffic and album purchasses and downloads with the exposure but what do I know

I think everybody has the power to create what they want, if they feel thats their mission...The musicindustry is just another concept and there are million ways to get succes, flexibility and discipline, humor and love for yourself and others and we can make it FAR!!!!!!Look at the artists who sell their music on UA-cam/Own website,etc...Everything changed into another form and that will Always be the case...Change set the bars....Concepts change, people change...We can, t expect that everything stays the same.... Thats not reality....;)

UA-cam is the New Radio... I agree that bands should allow their stuff to be played...

Megadeth's 2nd album, "peace sells, " has been noted for it's jazz influences.

I thought it was the record companies mainly who enforce the "blocking", I know someone did a vid about algorithms being used to alert and block, maybe it was "music is win"? But the gist of it was, the flawed algorithms flag audio to be blocked. Although I'm sure artists do a big part of blocking too, didn't Lars from metallica push for enforcing copyright stuff way before streaming music was a thing?

Lil piece of irony: I have a few covers on my site, and the notice comes up that the song 'contains copyrighted material, but the owner is okay with it being used'. Then it directs me to 'monetize the track so the owner can enjoy benefits from it, too.' Then when I try to monetize it, YT informs me that my channel isn't able to monetize videos, blah, blah, blah. Round & round it goes (-:

To me any band who blocks you using their song is biting their nose to spite their face, your probably exposing a new generation to their music

Maybe this has already been suggested, but why don't you put your blocked videos on your own website so we can still see your hard work and great explorations of the songs? Just create a new page for those videos!
