Thanks this video was really helpful because i am saving up to upgrade this by buying a case, motherboard, graphics card and power supply and use the ram, hard drive and Cpu from my Optiplex 9020 usff and build it, does a LGA 1150 support a GTX 660? or does the Intel Core i7 4770s support a GTX 660?
Hi is an excellent video, and for that I have a question:, may you please tell me if is possible to change the case the original of Dell Optoplex 9020 with a standard ATX case? May you explain me how to do it?
I have all the screws and clips loosened, but it still feels solidly attached, like I might break the motherboard if I pull it up. Never had a problem like this before. It feels like the thermal paste has become thermal super glue... Any ideas on how to remove this thing?
UPDATE: The thermal paste was as hard as concrete and overflowing the edges, so since the machine was hatched in 2013 the paste became like glue. I had some acetone and syringe from a previous project, so I injected acetone around the edges and finally pried it apart with a credit card. photos.app.goo.gl/KCUsiNTVsD6o89KYA
Yeah I had the same problem Scott so thanks for posting as I thought I was going crazy there as the video looked so easy. It seemed like there was extra fasteners keeping it down but it was just the thermal paste going full adhesive on me like you said. So with a bit of persistence (and more force than I would've liked) I managed to pry that sucker off eventually.
Hi, very useful video. Do you know if we can remove the 4 standoffs ( 8:49 ) on the motherboard tray where the screws of the CPU cooler goes in ? I'd like to put another CPU cooler like the Arctic Alpine 12 LP. Thanks
@@mxkdt what replacement cooler would you recommend ? I forgot to mention that I removed the optical drive/ hdd cage. Replaced the hdd with an SSD and it's just dangling in there... So there's room for a small cooler. I'm not looking for performance, just silence really... I have a i5 3570S in there. What about the Cryorig C7?
@Mxkdi I disassembled mine and found out that the standoffs are soldered. I can't install a backplate or use push-pins. I removed the CPU fan. Getting 35-45°C idle and up to 70°C when watching UA-cam 2K video. It's ok for what I'm doing with the PC
Hi, i did see online they sell CRYORIG C7 Cu - 47mm Tall, SFF Mini ITX Full Copper CPU Heatsink really nice problem is it will not fit dell optiplex usff, did you try to use ARCTIC MX-4 - Thermal Compound Paste or ARCTIC MX-2 - Thermal Compound Paste on the CPU
@@mxkdt I applied MX-2 yeah. But later today I saw temps peaking at 90°C on idle ! Maybe Windows had some CPU intense background processes... I put back the original fan I saw the C7 CU but same problem, I can't remove the standoffs...
You can use a mini PCIe to PCIe adapter cable to connect a graphics card. I use this method to connect an RX 570 4GB to my 7010 usff and it works really well. Super portable LAN machine.

You actually can, using a mini pcie to pcie adapter. I have my Optiplex 7010 USFF hooked up to an external GTX 1050 TI using the adapter and it works really well. Just wanted to try it for a fun weekend project.
John Connor I have same situation. Bought a USFF and a new video card and just realized there is no pcie on board. Could you show me exactly what you did to run it?
Thank you for this! It helped me to change the Cmos battery. Couldn't they have placed it in a more reachable place? But I did it, thanks to you!
Excellent video. I need to change my cmos battery and can now see where it is. Thanks.

You can do it.
I have the same case and the CPU fan screw is stuck. Any tips on how to get behind the MOBO and hold it still while I unscrew?
Thanks! Just put a fresh application of thermal paste on my i7-2600.

Hi, thanks
can you change the motherboard to a 7010 sff or will not work?
Which 500w psu can I put in this pc as an upgrade?
Can you put the laptop adapter for video card to that mini in the express pci port of the wifi?
Thank you!
Hi.
Can you get to the CMOS battery without removing the CPU heatsink? It looks like it might be accessed when you lift the fan, can it?
Yes. I used long needle-nose pliers to remove and replace the battery. Just unplug and lift the CPU blower/fan.
2:00 mins in, push the chrome "ear" (either of the two sides) gently away from the hinge peg and set the black plastic fan aside.

Hi, no it will not fit usff case and that Arctic Alpine 12 LP cooler is junk light weight because it is not full copper.
