You can approximate Chinese noodles with spaghetti, but you need to put a little sodium carbonate in the water to get the same texture. Sodium carbonate is washing soda and can be made from baking soda by baking it in the oven at 300° until it stops giving off CO2, takes about an hour, but then you have a bunch for use later.
Now that is an awesome tip!
Why not buy sodium carbonate to begin with?
@@johnwatrous3058 you can definitely do that, just most people have baking soda but not washing soda and it’s an easy process. I currently have a box of carbonate, but no bicarbonate. I use a lot to make copper carbonate for various copper chemistry experiments.
@@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 I looked on Amazon for sodium carbonate and it's more expensive that bicarb also. That's another reason to just buy the bicarb. Maybe there is a cheaper source though.
I busted up laughing at the My Dung restaurant name. I could not eat there! 😂
Not even the poo poo platter?😂
Larry, thank you from the people for risking it all to try these frozen foods. Our stomachs appreciate you more than you will ever know!!
He does that for us, the people, so we don't have to!
He's got a body double...
Yes Larry, thank you from us, the people for trying the food!
InnovAsians has some really good meals, especially the General Tsos chicken.
My Dung restaurant huh? (I was a 26 year old rookie bank teller in 1980 when an Asian man walked up to my window to make a deposit. Long Dong Wong was his name. I almost bit my tongue to keep from laughing. I looked over at my colleague teller and she knew I met my first of many customers with interesting names.)
You have more restraint than I do. I would have accidentally started busting out laughing
Hey larry, there's a new kind of asian single serve meals by a brand called tai pei which is suprisingly good and not full of garbage ingredients. they come in what looks like an ice cream carton which is kind of funny. I'd recommend them.
I have had them and they are good
Definitely the restaurant names had me cracking up...a place near me has paper menus that are quite amusing too😂 I absolutely LOVE asian food, the real deal and of course Americanized...but I have a big ol' container of MSG in the cabinet just in case😂
I like Innovasion Fried Rice frozen varieties the ingredients are higher quality. I never tried their Lo Mein and completely understand the complaints for those who really love udon. It's definitely not Dollar Store/Dollar General level food.
Have you tried the bbq pork fried rice? Was wondering as I have that in my freezer and haven’t made it yet…
Can't wait to try that "My Dung" restaurant. 😝
I've had some good experiences with the InnovAsian brand, so I wouldn't hesitate to try their Lo Mein. Might throw a tin of sardines on it. The vegetable chunks look big enough. A little low sodium soy and some dried pepper flakes, there you go.
Thank you from us, the people! We appreciate it wholeheartedly!
I tried Innovasian, most of their products and I have to say they are good.
Chinese restaurants are always going to be inconsistent everywhere you go. We have several in my hometown that are like that. When I want hearty beef lo mein, I usually stick with one or two of my favorite restaurants in the area. They know how to make great beef lo mein, and cheap too! A small order of it will fill me up just right.
I haven't had this one but I get the Innovasian chicken fried rice and the honey chicken and for a frozen meal they are above average IMO.
Sup Larry, still love the sign 'my dung's 😂🤣. Your right every place has different lomein, I've even ordered lomein and got chowmein, no speakle English. So easy make at home cheaper, still haven't had frozen, only Chinese had was pf chang general tsos chicken and yelled at daughter lol. Udon noodles cheap, people should watch your videos or website to see how easy, but I get your point over the years bro, tyvm tc
I think I've seen InnovAsian products at my local supermarket, too. This week's special is on Bibigo entrees and Pagoda egg rolls, however, so I might pick up some of those after work. (Eating them will be a bit challenging for me, though, as I just got dentures 1 1/2 weeks ago, and am still re-learning how to chew.)
A perfect snack when paired with a Coors Light!
No one should eat this kind of garbage. This is why everyone in the West is fat.
Innovasian makes really great stuff. I love it as a quick meal
One of my favorite Japanese dishes is Nebiyaki Udon and you are right, those are not Udon noodles, not even close!
That's how I feel with Chinese restaurants. In the small town I grew up there's a Chinese buffet with the best teriyaki chicken and best lo mein I've ever had. I've moved to the big city as I've grown older and I cannot find a Chinese restaurant or buffet here that even comes close.
I feel ya, as a lad I worked in a high quality Chinese dinner restaurant and they spoiled me for using actual Chinese vegetables rather than frozen peas and carrots. They soaked the shitakes, chopped frozen live lobsters, boiled huge pots of rich chicken broth (it was orange with flavor) used imported black Chinese Tea aged in small oak barrels. I've found a couple restrants that came close, but never one that beat it.
@@gpalmerify There is a place we used to go to that had the best chicken stock they used in the soups.
I'll bet it was made with chicken feet, makes the best stock ever.
We are what we eat ... and I love TheWolfePit's videos. I've actually added some of his Asian "recipes" to my collection. They actually taste good and with a little tweaking are good for you!
Thanks, Larry ❤
Good to see you back Larry.
I had some last night and it was delicious!
Mr,Wolfe pit. The videos are great 👍. Keep up the awesome work!!!
I love this stuff! It’s delicious!
Spaghetti noodles dont have to have eggs in them. Most of the noodles you get from the store are just wheat, unless they are labeled as "protein" noodles or something like that.
I always thought it had a lot of sugar in it and not much flavor. So, I added some Asian hot sauce and that helps
Haven't done frozen chinese in a really long time but one of the things i recall being a recurring theme is that they are usually overly sweet, or they have an overdose of either ginger or sesame oil which almost makes the food taste synthetic. PF changs home menu was ok but not really cost effective.
Mahalo for the review!! Sounds good!! ❤
I sure older women would like to go to My Dung restaurant and try the cream of Sum Yun Gai.
As a person who lived in China and knows what real Chinese food should taste like (especially Sichuan), I have pretty much stopped trying Chinese food…it is always a disappointment. Lo and behold after moving to Atlanta not only did I find a restaurant serving authentic Sichuan food but the chef is from one of the cities I lived in. It is on the other side of the ATL from us, so if you know you know, but well worth it for me to occasionally splurge on their pure deliciousness (Gu’s Kitchen if you are in the area)
Have you tried Indian food or Indian food from the freezer section? Honestly the majority of it scratches the itch when you have the urge.
I haven't tried the noodles but all the innovasian fried rice is actually BETTER than take out...
I like a good saucy lo mein with semi thick lo mein/hokkien egg noodles. I grew up with my uncle's restaurant's lo mein, so I'm biased, but I just can't find another Chinese restaurant who properly seasons their lo mein or uses the right noodle. It's always one or the other. Their seasoning will be okay, but they use udon or spaghetti noodles. Or they use the right noodles, but it tastes bland. That or the noodles are dry or overcooked. I love lo mein, but have paid for disappointment way too many times. I've seen this frozen lo mein many times at my local grocery store, nice to know what it tastes and looks like, will most likely never be purchasing it lol
Its like Pancit canton tho :)
Wish you'd revisit Oscar Mayer hot dogs again. They've changed something and now they're yuk
That's true! I never understand why Frozen Chinese food never turns out good. 🤔 💬 Chinese food is pretty cheap so it doesn't make sense why Frozen Chinese food never turns out well.
Now I want lo mein
I actually like their sweet and sour chicken and honey chicken
Hey Larry, have you ever tried beef chow fun noodles before? I'm mildly curious what the grocery store versions of these might look like.
What brand? Sounds great
@@tenorman Quite frankly, I'm asking if Larry (or anyone in chat, for that matter) might have seen the dish in a grocery store. I haven't seen any where I live, but I'd be very curious if someone has tried a grocery store version
Larry , we have a Chinese place 10 minutes & consistent lo main & every other food , 2$ more but twice that portion , take no chances on my Chinese food
I’m genuinely surprised
Hing fat kok - Muhahahaha 💯👍
😁
Never enough meat in it! I make my own with copious amounts of meat!
They aren't horrible, but the veggie one is rather bland (go for the meat options instead) and I don't really care for the edamame: gimme green peas any day (Vegetable Taste Like Sad, but Fancy Vegetable Taste Like Sadder.)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
didn't skimp on the carrot's.
No added MSG...Chinese food without MSG is like America without the obesity, is it really America?
celery does not belong in lo mein
I think the only thing you can do to lo mein to make it disgusting... It chock it full of nasty vegetables.
Way too much carrot and not nearly enough celery.
Sound Poor.....
Tip: stop eating junk processed foods. It's not worth it.
alcohol in the list sucks
Dude stop eating this stuff
This channel is extremely depressing.
Larry, how come you don’t make your videos anymore? I miss the old days… 🥲
In the refrigerated isle at Aldi, they have a Korean BBQ beef lo mein that is absolutely AMAZING.
I've had that! Also the honey chicken and fried rice. All was good.
Love the names of Restaurants😂😂😂
I like the innovasian pot stickers
I’d love to hear more about the carnivor diet and how it’s going and if you’re still doing it.
Look at the hand.
I actually made some of this last week, I prefer the fried rice but it wasn’t too bad imo.
I dont like using spaghetti for anything unless im given spaghetti XD
Good review, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Another high sodium frozen meal, no surprise there. Great video as always, Thanks Larry
their bacon fried rice is pretty decent too in a pinch.. and we like their general tso's chicken.. the big box sends two pkgs of the general tso sauce.. but you only need to use one. not sure any of its "good" for you.. but it'll do on a busy night when you dont have time to cook
Those pagoda frozen eggrolls are DIVINE, especially with that pineapple sauce!...their potstickers are great too!
My favorite is Ajinomoto brand vegetable Chow Mein I get at Sam's club. Has loads of great different veggies in it (water chestnuts, snow peas, endine, broccoli etc. Box of 6 individual 9 oz packs. For around $13. That innovision stuff looked like it was half carrots!
It does look good. Might try it
12ozs for 2 people .. u must be crazy
If it says it has one thing, but it contains another, that's false advertising, and their being in the United States of Litigation, they're on thin ice there selling spaghetti as udon... :P
I've come to find out over the years you are just waaaay better off to go ahead and get chinese takeout over what a store offers, its the same price anyways at least in my area.
Everything I've tried from Innovasion has been really good. My favorite is their BBQ Pork Fried Rice....it's as delicious as the fried rice I've had at a few Chinese restaurants
I like the Innovasian white rice and fried rice. Never had this lo mein. But I know who DOES make great beef lo mein; Birdseye! I only buy them on sale buy one get one free because they are rather pricey now(like everything else). Before you open the bag, slam it down on the counter several times so that it will break up all the ingredients that are frozen together. Then follow the simple instructions on the bag. Even though the beef strips aren't real pure beef strips, I think they taste really good! Tender and juicy. And the vegetables are delicious too. Last but not least, the sauce is perfect; I think it's delicious and wouldn't change a thing. They don't give you too little or too much. I can't recommend it enough to anyone who wants to be able to make delicious beef lo mein at home quick and easy. They even make some of the recipes in two sizes; 21 and 42oz. Can't recall if the lo mein is one of those since it's the 21oz that go on sale.
Wow, a remolded kitchen with all new appliances. A huge back yard deck with an outdoor kitchen. Gosh, you being a lifelong Democrat voter and union member in a solid blue state has been very good to you.
Innovasion is the best frozen asian food IMO. Ive never had anythign from them taht was bad. THeir white rice is awesome too
Damn it's 6.96 in northern Minnesota
I haven't found any of the Innovasian meals that aren't good enough to buy again
Ah the bullshido udon 🍜 noodles
The Birds Eye skillet meals are pretty decent.
I hate when they fill it with cheap a$$ carrots
So, Lo Mein is basically Wok? Stir-fry vegs, meat, sauce and noodles?
Looked good to me but i would want a tad bit more sauce.
Just give me Mei Fun.
👍
CHOW-GHETTI!! 🤣
Yeah if flour same noodle just texture
Seen buying ramen at Sam's
Hey Larry.. Did you know what "Lo Mein" means? Lo means old and Mein is Noodle so it's Old Noodles.. Thanks for the video.
What's the difference between Lo Mein noodles & Chow Mein noodles?
Found online: "In English, chow mein means fried noodles and lo mein translates to tossed or stirred noodles."
@@lancerevell5979 thank you
How about making us some Pork Lo Mein stir fry?!?! Thank you. God Bless, stay safe and warn.
Larry being it is Chinese food should they list MSG?
I've just eaten duck ho fun sooo much tastier than chow mein
Got my Wolf pit goulash on the stove right now😊
Wow
