Thank you!! I have this code and my transmission has been slipping. This is amazing! We'll see how my mechanical skills pan out but I think you've possibly just saved me thousands of dollars that I don't have... So if I pull this off you saved my car. Thank you!!!
Jeremy hood j have toyota camry1992 and j don't know where to connect this shift solenoid .From video j can't see clear where to connect wire from tha shift solenoid .The wires from neutral safety switch is OK.Its connected but the a other two wire from shifting solenoid and other from the solenoid who is located close to dipstik pipe j don't know how to connect with power
My 2000 Camry v6 has a problem when I change the transmission to the D position it does not move forward and sometimes it moves after a few seconds and when I put it on R I feel it kick and then it moves normally. What is the problem ??!
Good video, it helped me find where the sensor is located and clean the area of dirt and grime. Had to buy an original Toyota part I found on eBay for under $100 with shipping. I installed the part and it cleared the code. Thanks Jeremy as some mechanics I consulted said the solenoid was inside the transmission and I had to drain and remove the fluid pan for access. I went as far as buying a pan gasket and filter before I checked out your video. I have since returned those items for credit. Great job. Peter
Great video!! My light came back on but I'm guessing because we did not buy a new piece. We made it in time to get the emissions passed which is a relief
Oh, that sucks. Sorry it came back on. I've used old parts elsewhere in that car and been fine. Hope you get it working again for next year's emission test. :-)
Everyone I reform this service for made the same mistake around 7-8 months prior to the solenoids failure. They sprayed down the engine bay of a 22yo car with a garden hose or pressure washer. Toyota used shit rubber in their o rings for 97-01 and it lets moisture into the coils thus throwing off the resistance and resulting in a minor clank but otherwise well performing transmission. Sometimes letting it stay dirty is the best option. Also, this procedure is in all shop manuals digital and paper. It is called Shift Solenoid Valve SL replacement procedure. Have a nice day
Hi there. Very well put together video on this nicely done. A question if I might. I have the 2000 Camry which it exactly like yours in video in terms of this project. The Neutral Safety Switch after removing the retaining nut and the retaining washer should easily wiggle, slide off but it wiggles around but will not slide off. I gentle placed a tool slightly behind it to attempt to pry it off but stopped as was concerned maybe I could some how damage the transmission by pressing in the transmission rode that neutral switch slides onto. Any suggestions? Not sure how easily the rode coming out of transmission that it fits onto damages. Thanks and let me know if yours would difficult to get off. Thanks
Jeremy j have toyota camry1992 2.2 would you like to tell me how is connected the shift solenoid with power. On my toyota the shift solenoid is disconnected there is a wire about 10cm and its connected with shift solenoid but the other side of wire is free doesn't connected anywhere. J don't knoww where to connected this side of wire with power. J look and look but j can't see where to connected. Whiteout power shift solenoid couldn't working. Thank you
I'm sorry, but I don't have any idea. I'm not a mechanic; I only work on our cars. Also, we sold this car a few years ago, so I can't look to see where that wire is connected. I hope someone else on here can answer your question. You might also try looking for a wiring diagram for this car. They might include something like that in the shop manual. I don't know. I'm sorry I can't help more.
Jeremy how did you remove the connector to top of solonoid? (That little black connector) I am not able to remove it no matter what I do. I have a 1998 toyota camry
Watch around minute 7:23 in this video. Also, see 8:56. I had a tough time getting the plug to come off too. Then, I realized that only the very top comes off. The rest of the black stuff is connected to the solenoid, not the plug.
That was tough. Only half of the black stuff on top of the solenoid is the plug. The other part of the black stuff stays with the solenoid. Only take off the plug, which is the top half of that black stuff. See time 7:23 of this video to see the part that comes off. It's not the whole thing. Also look at 8:43, where I show the solenoid itself, where the black part is still on the solenoid.
That was weird. Google just sent me an e-mail letting me know you commented, so I replied. But your comment was from 9 months ago and I had already replied. Sorry about the duplication.
Shift solenoid 3. So is that third gear? Because mine has a problem with 1st to 2nd gear. Did you have any symtoms, or just an engine light? Oh yea! What year and model is it.
We had no symptoms other than the check-engine light. I don't think the solenoid number relates to the gear. I'm not sure how they number the solenoids.
what were the symptoms of this solenoid being bad also I have a 1992 Lexus es300 and it won't go into 2ND gear, and starts and drives in 3rd gear but from a stop. you can force it into 1st gear. but no matter what it will not go into 2ND.
Hi. I have the 0770 code and it states Shift solenoid E. The car runs great though no shifting problems or anything. Did your mother - in - laws car also drive smoothly and well at all speeds before changing it out? Not sure about your code po773. The shift solenoid E explanation that shows up on the code reader seems to show up with the 770 Code. My fluid is full. Thanks and interested if the car ran fine before changing out the Solenoid. Thyanks nice video.
I'd try checking the transmission and top it off if necessary. Clear the code and, if it comes back, only then spend the money on the part. That's just me, though. For this car, P770 went away just by topping off the transmission fluid.
+al n I don't think the 2002 has the same transmission. They may be similar enough to find useful information in these videos still. I don't know. Sorry.
+Jeremy Hood, Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your video on clearing 776 code. I have a 97 toyota celica with the same motor. With your help I was able to change out the part and get going again. No experience. Thanks again, Ron
Dude I got a 2003 Corolla that runs and shifts like a champ but with the p0770 and it just wont go away. Started by changing the trans fluid and filter, and that didn't work, then change the solenoid and cleaned all the wires , and that didn't work, the car still runs and shifts like a new car with no issues but engine light comes on and code is p0770, can someone help me please. I was told it can be the transmission or the CPU, the car only has 130k miles ,in need of some support, thanks
My car had P0770 code on it. I had the Shift E Solenoid valve replaced, but after about 3 weeks, the same check engine code came back on. It is a 1998 Corolla CE. It has over 230,000 miles on it. Recently, the car (at times) takes a couple of tries to start and when it does, I notice that the time and the radio on the car is reset. I feel like something is happening with the battery. But when the car is running, it drives fine. Currently, the code just went away after finally getting the car to start this morning, but I feel like the same code and problems will return. What should I do?
LOL! Good for you! I'm no mechanic, but you can save a lot of money working on your cars yourself. However, there are the rare cases where you have to take it into the shop anyway. Over all, though, I save a lot of money.
Hi, I'm turkey Istanbul from you I have a tool that will be a question for a 1998 model Proton brand mutsubi compatible 1600 ° engine automatic transmission problems i have transmission I have collected only tool motion does not I would be glad if you help whichever relay caused solenoid problems selenoid code?
Hi Can, I'm sorry I don't understand your question very well, but I'll try my best to answer. The only symptom we had with the car was the check-engine light. It drove fine.
Awsome videos man all three parts of them every detailed. I hav P0770 right now on my Toyota Camry 1998 4 cylinder. Should I Jst add tranny fluid? Or change that part u changed out?
I have a 2001 camry the transmission indicator shows P and L at same time. will not go out of L. also, windows quit working. any ideas what's going on?
My 99 Camry XLE V6 has the same code P0773. I try to locate this shift solenoid without any luck either. According to Peter Lim on another video, It shows this solenoid is inside the transmission. His video is short and not clearly explain as Jermy did.
I have been having issues about 1997 Toyota camry automatic transmission for a while it usually shift from 1st to 3rd gear and it revolve 6000rpm and odometer will be at 20mph, I have used machine to diagnosed the fault but it shown only came shaft sensor. what can I do to rectify the fault.
It's definitely a pain. I took the battery and neutral-control switch out to get them out of the way. I didn't think to video tape when I took the thing apart. However, if you check out Part 2, I show putting it back together. The reverse of that is how I took it apart. Only the top half of the black part of the solenoid comes off. I thought all of the black stuff came off and struggled with it for a long time. However, it does not. Look at around 7:23. Then, skip forward to around 8:56 to see more about that.
That is solenoid B not E.... Unplugged that and got a code for B.... Plugged it back in cleared the codes no more B code.... E apparently is inside the trans... With the other shift solenoids...
Hey Jerry, does the code reader tell what u selenoid is bad when checking? I can't remember what code but they said I failed inspection cause of shift selenoid check engine light
But it does not shift bad or anything. It did slip one trip in bumber to bumper traffic but I serviced it and put some Lucas tyranny fix and been great every since but I have to replace a shift selenoid or I won't pass, which one would it be, oh and I do have small leak of some type oil, can't tell what oil though,
Thanks for getting back to me. It's the very top part I cannot remove from solenoid. Is there a release mechanism or something I press to release it from the solenoid? How did you get it to release from the top? Thanks
I can't remember exactly. I think I had to pull a little clip away from the solenoid to get it to release the hook that holds it in. I may have had to use a screw driver to pry it away from the solenoid. I'm just not sure. Sorry.
The car was driving fine. It's just that the check-engine light was on. It wouldn't have passed its emission test with that light on. Otherwise, it was fine.
This video fixed my 98 Camry code po77o. No trans over drive shift . Thanks you for saving me a lot of time and money.
That's awesome! Thank you.
Hi there. A quick word of thanks for sharing this on UA-cam. VERY helpful. You 'da man for doing this work of charity for DIYers everywhere.
Thank you!! I have this code and my transmission has been slipping.
This is amazing! We'll see how my mechanical skills pan out but I think you've possibly just saved me thousands of dollars that I don't have... So if I pull this off you saved my car.
Thank you!!!
Depends how long u let it slip. Once slippage starts clutches start wearing out.
Did it end up helping, Baby Ghost? I hope so!

Peter Gebhardt That's so great to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
thanks for this I need it...never think that what you post won't hepl someone at some point.
That's very kind, Pastor Anthony. Thank you!

Thanks again for the video. The solenoid is now available from RockAuto. I just ordered one.
Link? I've looked around but not found any descriptive info that makes me comfortable buying it.

This video helped me a lot and I got to where I was taking it apart and realized something must have just unplugged it to throw the code
Oh nice! So you just plugged it back in? That's awesome!
Thank you, Dave. You're too kind.
Jeremy Hood
great investigating!!!! Very nice of u to share this GBU
I really like your video. Too bad it's a 4-cyl because I need to do this for my 6-cyl. You have a great video presence. Thanks
You're too kind. Thank you.

So besides the codes what was the car doing? What problems were you having with the transmission?
The car was fine other than the check-engine light.

Shift solenoid 3. So is that third gear? Because mine has a problem with 1st to 2nd gear.

I believe it's gears 1-3 meaning three way lock up torque
We had no symptoms other than the check-engine light.
I don't think the solenoid number relates to the gear. I'm not sure how they number the solenoids.
It is a 1999 Toyota Camry, 4 cylinder.
Did your engine light was on when the palm came
I got o/d 0ff light in dash this morning and car stays in third gear ... Any help ?
I'm sorry. I have no idea. I'd probably take it to a shop.
Oh man, just push the small button on your gear shifter. Btw I am still on 2001 camry and it is running well. Luvit
what were the symptoms of this solenoid being bad also I have a 1992 Lexus es300 and it won't go into 2ND gear, and starts and drives in 3rd gear but from a stop. you can force it into 1st gear. but no matter what it will not go into 2ND.

Hey Joe, There really weren't any other than the check engine light. The car ran just fine. It just wouldn't have passed the emission test.

Yes, it drove fine. The only symptom was the check engine light.
Did the transmission slip at all before you replace the solenoid?
i have a 2000 camry le is it the same? getting the same code
Did you ever resolve this? I just got the code on my 2000. Transmission does occasionally struggle to grip into 1st gear when going from a stop.
Hey friend...did you ever fix your camry? I have the p0770 code ..shows solenoid E...i dont know what to replace...
What were the symptoms you were having? Was it shifting funny or ???
My wifes friend has a 99 that shifts hard from 1 to 2.
Thanks for the video.
Don
The only symptom we noticed was the check engine light. With that light on, it wouldn't pass the emission test.
Thanks for the information.
Have a nice weekend.
+amtpdb1 No problem. You too.
ever figure it out. I got a 2000 and hard to third
I had the same code and ignored it changed the fluid. But I don't have overdrive or reverse
I'd try checking the transmission and top it off if necessary. Clear the code and, if it comes back, only then spend the money on the part. That's just me, though. For this car, P770 went away just by topping off the transmission fluid.
+Jeremy Hood does this video work for an 2002 camry?
+Jeremy Hood also do you remember if the car used to make a very weird noise before the solenoid was changed?

Torque clutch converter solenoid
Would be great if you could throw the part# here. Thankx
It's in the description: ... shift solenoid 3, Toyota part number 85420-20110.

Check the torque clutch converter solenoid. If that's fine it's the converter it self
Scotty has a good video on finding gremlins. I may have the same problem as well. I'm going to start tracing it through from the battery.
How do I know Wich one is solenoid e can u help me

John Valentine Hey John, I have no clue. Sorry. I wish I could help. The first thing I'd check for the windows is the fuse under the hood.
Not sure why this repair would take 3 parts but..... Thanks
Lol! Because I didn't know how to clip videos together back then.
Hey jeremy will this part also work for a 97 camry LE V6? my code is P0773.
I don't have any idea. That's a different transmission. It may or may not use that same part. Sorry I can't help more.
My 99 Camry XLE V6 has the same code P0773. I try to locate this shift solenoid without any luck either. According to Peter Lim on another video, It shows this solenoid is inside the transmission. His video is short and not clearly explain as Jermy did.
Great video. Did the solenoid have any wires connected to it coming from the inside of the tranny?
Thanks, Arben. It only had the one wire connected to the top. The bottom sits in a hole in the transmission, but there were no wires in there.
Thank you for the quick response.
I asked because mine has a group of wires connected to the inside part also.
I have been having issues about 1997 Toyota camry automatic transmission for a while it usually shift from 1st to 3rd gear and it revolve 6000rpm and odometer will be at 20mph, I have used machine to diagnosed the fault but it shown only came shaft sensor. what can I do to rectify the fault.

thanks so much!!
Ramon Cutino Your very welcome.
Would this cause my car to loose reverse
I don't know, sorry.
Thank you
Selenoid problem code resset?
I don't think the 2002 has the same transmission. However, maybe they're similar enough for this information to be helpful. I don't know.
Jeremy Hood I just put a 03 on a a 02 plugs are not the same what should I do
How tf did you reach to disconnect the solenoid cable .. it's too crowded ..
It's definitely a pain. I took the battery and neutral-control switch out to get them out of the way. I didn't think to video tape when I took the thing apart. However, if you check out Part 2, I show putting it back together. The reverse of that is how I took it apart.

It did slip one trip in bumber to bumper traffic but I serviced it and put some Lucas tyranny fix and been great every since but I have to replace a shift selenoid or I won't pass, which one would it be, oh and I do have small leak of some type oil, can't tell what oil though,
The code reader only says what code the engine is throwing (like P0770). Then, you have to Google that for your car to see what it means.
so the selenoids are diffrent? cuz removed 3 of them from a used car i they all look the same to me now i dont know which one install first
Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry.
+Jeremy Hood It could be that you squeeze the two black pieces at the top together to release the hook on the bottom left.
I put selonoid from ebay but still sai not ready 3 week now
Wow! That's a long time. Can you clear the code and see if it comes back? Usually code readers have a way of allowing you to clear codes.
No. As of now, the car has been code free since this fix.
Jeremy Hood
is the solenoid E location the same on a 2000 camry?
🙏💝
Tnx
Hey Jeremy, thank you for the video. Did the engine light ever came back?
What I did miss or you didn’t say, what the actual symptoms the transmission was doing wrong?? Please respond
The car was driving fine. It's just that the check-engine light was on. It wouldn't have passed its emission test with that light on. Otherwise, it was fine.
Lol how did boy George make into this conversation
Did I mention Boy George? Too funny! LOL!
BG
can't find mine... its not back there wtf!!! 😬😬😬
Hold on. I have to look up code 773. Then I'll know what it is.
Buy parts on ebay is a lot cheeper
Jack diddly squat
Шешен не айтып жатыр
Not a hard job ! Why the complaining?
Great video. Did the solenoid have any wires connected to it coming from the inside of the tranny?
ben ber I just put the different transmission on my Camry what should I do
Thank you.
You're welcome.
