  • Video demonstration on how to take apart a Honda BBC Roto-stop blade brake clutch system. This procedure is essentially the same for all Honda models that employ the blade brake clutch technology.
In my specific video I originally thought my driven disc plate (the clutch) linings were worn out and that was why my blade was slipping on the drive disc. Having already purchased a new driven disc clutch plate I was able to compare my old clutch to the new one only to discover that my clutch was practically brand new still!
The issue discovered was a glazed over clutch as a result of "engaging the blade clutch too slowly" which resulted in excessive heat build up and the making the clutch slowly over the many years "polish" the surfaces to the point where they were no longer effectively gripping and transferring the engine's power to the blade.
Rather than replace parts that aren't technically worn I demonstrate how to "resurface" the drive and driven discs. After the repairs the mower works better than it did new and all I did was use sandpaper to do the repairs.
