  • After running fine for 30 minutes it suddenly developed signs of a blocked main jet. Funny this happened after refueling? Hmmm

    I like the fact that you filmed what could go wrong also with the leaky bowl and other things. When you work on this stuff long enough things happen. The mower I have was given to me and I like it yet haven't used it. I'm hurt that I can't find cables for the transmission speed and the self propel. I'd like to have it fully operational. Guess it's too old and things are discontinued.

    I just bought a HR 215 HX for $75. Removed the carburetor bowl. Sprayed carb cleaner all over inside the carb, cleaned the bowl and it runs great.

      Very good. You got one that wasn’t badly clogged. You will like the mower.

    Interestingly, the cord handle is on the wrong side of the engine, it should be where the step is, so the foot goes on the step, handle in hand and pull, the foot holding the mower steady while cranking

      Good catch and you are correct, I re-clocked the recoil the way I prefer it as I “pull” with my right arm.

    I use my only to do the curb because of dog dodo.Use my tractor to cut the rest of-the grass .It starts first pull ,found it 6 yrs ago ,its heavy cast aluminum .The only problem i have sticky drive lever.Cant find manual to adjust it .Unit is same as the one you got sx,as long as it runs right now it good.Thank you for your video.

      I do pretty much the same, my 2004 JD tractor does most of the property. I like the Honda to trim up close and occasionally I like to use the Honda for everything when I have the time, and ambition.

    FYI - shutting off the fuel and running it until it stops does not completely empty the fuel bowl. There is still enough fuel there to gum up the jet. Ask me how I know.

    • @chatrkat
      @chatrkat  3 місяці тому

      Yes I realize that, you are exactly correct. Longer term storage I always pull the drain plug on the bowl, sometimes even squirt a little carb cleaner in the hole to rinse the bottom of the bowl clean. In the case of no drain, like a Tecumseh carb, I loosen the bowl nut slightly to drop the bowl just enough to let the gas drip out. If carb is inaccessible without taking stuff apart, I will run a cup of Engineered Fuel through after draining the gas tank. Then run it out of gas again, at least that way there’s no alcohol gas setting in the very bottom.

    I didn't see where you mentioned air fuel mix screw setting. Thats what I need please

    • @chatrkat
      @chatrkat  3 місяці тому

      That screw is the low speed mixture. It should have a stop tab on the screw. Turn CCW until it hits the stop. *if no stop tab then turn CW until it stops then open 1-1/2 turns CCW to begin. Then warm engine, set throttle to idle and adjust that mixture a little either direction to achieve smooth idle.

      Assuming the ignition kill wire hasn’t been broken off, the throttle cable is not adjusted correctly. You can try loosening the cable clamp down in the engine then pulling the cable hosing back slightly then tightening the clamp again. See off it shuts-off now when you pull the throttle control back to STOP. Comment back if that still does not stop the engine. If necessary I will make a simple video on how to correctly adjust the throttle cable from scratch. Good luck.

      @@chatrkatthe wheel adjuster on my right front wheel wont lock in place. I tried to take the wheel off and the bolt wont come off. I tried all different sizes off sockets and none worked. Without the wheel adjuster its basically useless.

      I buy a gallon at a time of 50:1 engineered fuel for all the 2 cycle devices. I also keep 1 gallon of regular engineered gas for anything I can’t drain completely for storage. But the lawn tractors and small mowers get pump gas (10% alcohol) but never let that equipment set unused long.
