3 Tips For Shooting With The GH5 | Low Light

- Summary: In Todays video I discuss some of the things I keep in mind when shooting with the gh5. People continue to say the gh5 is not great at low light but I found there is always a workaround for that. Workaround number 1 is to follow your instinct and not the instinct of someone else's workflow.

Awesome points! Know your camera and do what works for your situation - and not what other people say
I got the same lens and camera setup. Lowlight hasnt been as bad as i thought it would be. I got the 25mm 1.7 for really bad lighting situations
Thanks for Great advice , subscribed today , 👍😊.
Great video dude! Chicago here as well.
Thank you!
Needed this video! The wisdom and positivity I needed lol. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the support queen 💯💯
Some genius shots
I’m in Chicago too and mostly use Panasonic. Never had an issue with lowlight.
So well explained and insightful. Thank you!
Great Video!!
Great video bro! Just got my GH5 and love it at night!
Hi Shawn, regards from Stockholm!
I really enjoyed your video. Loved your philosophy as to how to use a camera.
Did my heart good to see all those clips from my beloved Chi-town! I moved here from Chicago in January of 1992.
It's great here too, but, oh, my Sweet Home Chicago!
Lovely clips of the city!
I'm hoping to pick up the 5 in April or May!
Thanks so much!
Yep, I shoot downtown or on Clark and Division for best lowlight with micro 4/3.
Peace! Blessings to you. I appreciate your insight and thus have some questions. I have a gh5 with the 12-40mm 2.8 olympus. Does it make sense to get the sigma 18-35 (I do have a speedbooster) or primes. I was thinking a 24mm 1.4 sigma or canon and a 35mm 1.4 sigma or canon. I see the 18-35 being used a lot...is it that good? Being that a lot people use it for video creation that has me thinking. Do I want my video creations looking like everyone else (I don't) however I figure the primes will push me to be more creative because they are fixed plus I will get better low light. I'm learning brother, thus the questions. Also what wireless lav system would you recommend for interviews? I appreciate your expression and looking forward receiving more of your insight! Peace
Peace and love brother. So first, thank you for the questions. Secondly, even tho the olympus is a really good lens, its still only an f2.8. Vs (idk what type of speed booster you have) a sigma f1.2. That's a huge difference in light. Now our camera isnt the greatest in lowlight it's just a fact. So we have to be very smart about our lens selection and lighting conditions and yes everyone has a sigma 18-35 for the most part but a lens does not equal voice. I guarantee you if you and I had the exact same camera and lens set up you would get 2 totally different projects. So don't let that deter you. Now if you had the money I would really recommend you get the 10-25 over the sigma glass because autofocus is actually usuable native glass vs others. So yes the sigma is fire but it's a manual focus lens only. So really depends on how you shoot
@@shawnbrooks12 Peace! Good looking on the get back! Excellent points on creative expression and lens set. I went with the viltrox .71 newest version(a voice telling me should have went with metabones...we will see how it performs)yeah the 10-25 smh my money not that long yet...do you have any primes you recommend? And again blessings on replying with on point insight!
@@Emind7 so the 3 primes I have is a canon 50 f1.8 for portraits mainly, sigma 18-35 and lumix 12-35 f2.8. I'm looking at the 35-100 and the lumix 42.5 buttttt new cameras are coming out so I'm waiting to see what the a7siii and gh6 do
@@shawnbrooks12 No doubt brother. Again I appreciate the communication and the your time answering my questions. Stay Building Keep Shining Sun! Peace
Hey Shawn, I know this is a video on the older side and I've always shot in Natural, but I was curious what your thoughts were on the best profile in ow light situations. I was looking to try out V-LOG in a week when I goto Japan BUT I hear/read its not good in low light plus its not the best in 8bit (I shoot 4k60). So shooting 4k24 and anything not in super low light is what I read is when its best for V-LOG. Now if I can't use V-LOG, I've read Cine-D is 2nd best for a profile if you're trying to color after the fact.
Great video! Thank you so much!
Hey Shawn; thanks for posting this video! While this video is way clearer than what I'm getting with my GH5, it still has that grainy component to it that I'm trying to get rid of. I do a lot of filming in the woods at dawn and dusk, and I can't for the life of me get rid of the graininess of my clips. I have a 14-140mm f4-5.8 which I know isn't the best for low light, but I filmed something at noon in the woods with an overcast just the other day and the footage honestly looked as grainy as a handicap. Is there any way to reduce this or avoid it? Or is this the realm I'm going to be living in using a MFT? Thanks in advance!
HandyCam** my apologies
dope video.... that intro was fire.
Nice work my friend.
Hi, your indoor shots also with a gh5? If so, wow 😀👍👋😀
I might be a moron, But i think the best low light test is with a lighter flame or candle, because your street test street looks like a friggin christmas tree, who know how much light its putting out in that location. Who knows if thats how it looks to the eye when your actually there. Whereas everyone knows the output of a lighter flame or candle. We can use that as a base test to judge.
Nice
GREAT 👍🏻
Mft hater we out here haha. Nicely done bro, know your camera and the gain
Exactly!
