Wowza! Such a great training vid! I did not know that Erik Paulson was your coach; that's awesome. It's no wonder that all your vids and technique and everything you teach is so solid. Keep up the great work, Kev!
Erik is amazing and a pioneer of MMA I remember attending a Uk seminar in Uk at Dave Briggs real approach academy nearly 20 years ago Will never forget his visit so knowledgeable warrior and inspirational but also humble
Quality drills and partners do more to improve fighting than anything else . How you you duplicate over and over and over different positions and situations until it's muscle memory . What clicked for me was watching Nascar races of all things. The pit crew. They move and execute with perfection even though theres a variety of things they have to deal with . And they only do the actually tasks a few times per race. But they have practiced it countless times , slow, steady and precise until when the time comes they have already been there thousands of times. No wasted energy or motion trying to decide what to do. THATS true speed . Functional speed.
Bruce Lee talked about repetition too. Don't rememver exact wording but its something like: "I don't fear the guy who practised 10.000 kicks once, but I fear the guy who practised one kick 10.000 times " Repetition is key.
There's nothing wrong with wearing shoes on the mat if you only wear those shoes on the mat... Wrestling guys for example often prefer to wear shoes because it's what they're used to.
Yeah, he is a catch wrestler so he wears them when he’s teaching those classes. He doesn’t wear them when he is teaching Gi classes. Plus, it helps to support his ankle due to the injuries from his fighting times. But I understand where you are coming from. :)
Coach, I have a tip for You and your entrance there that ya might recognize from ya work. Follow up, do not come on screen with an “errrrrt” like an uncle on a sitcom without then immediately sayin somethin like “What’s up dweebs, I got some tips and drills for ya today that ya GOTTA know!”. It just doesn’t work on its own. Ya gonna take a counter awkward right to the head if ya sit there ashamed for a few seconds afterwards.
Erik is the man.
Makes a lot of sense
His drop slips are gorgeous!

Erik trained with Guro Dan Inosanto 🥊⚔️
What exactly is "timing sparring"? Is that a name of a drill, or just spend time sparring ("time in sparring")?
Nice Kev!!
Thank you!
👍👍👍
Ugh! Your coach and Mcgregor with shoes on the mat kills me! LOL

Wrestling shoes on mats is the exception. He is wearing wrestling shoes
