Definitely do two rows of gathering stitches! I like to do one gathering stitch inside the seam allowance and one outside (so one at 1/4” and one at 3/4”). That stabilizes the gatherers on both sides of the stitch line and prevents any shifting.
Wow this little dress will be perfect for my little 3 year old grand daughter. I can’t wait to make it . Thank you for sharing and thank you for the free pattern.
Isn't it a wonderful pattern! I've been taking all my leftover fabric and making batches of London dresses to donate to places like Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Oh my!!! It will be made from beautiful scraps from a friend, and given back to her for a new baby girl niece, toddler dress, and with ruffles if enough scraps are left.
Great tutorial! A little more detail on the application of bias tape would be great. Maybe just some pictures of the steps. Gorgeous fabrics and a darling dress!
Thank you for this. I had sewing lessons at school 40 years ago. I have down loaded your free pattern from your website and I'm a bit nervous about making this. But, its such a lovely pattern and your tutorial has all the details. I'll be playing and pausing ALOT. I'm sure if I remain calm and focussed I'll make two wearable garments. Thank you again. X
When I made my first London dress, I did the same thing...playing and pausing the tutorial a lot, but after I had made a couple, I was breezing through the dress. Such a confidence building project for anyone wanting to get their sewing mojo back.
Fantastic tutorial many thanks can’t wait to get started, have ordered the pattern so as soon as it arrives I’ll enjoy creating this beautiful dress. Thanks again Jackie 🧵🪡
thank you for the video really helpful maybe some day I'll make my own ..by the way your Baby dress turned out very neat and very close to the professional congrats 🎉😊
Great video, currently seeing the London dress and I came here to see more detail on sewing the bias as I was unsure of the instructions. Would love some closer up views for beginners like me.
I have sewn off and on for 20 years and I love this tutorial! Nice job! You confirmed that this girl has been doing it right all these years! I laugh every time I see that rack fall down because that is how my day usually goes. I have not tried a pattern yet. I am new to PDF patterns. I am a bit nervous about trying it. I may try this free one for my 9 month old granddaughter. I love the look of the London. I would also like an easy fall pattern to try for her.
Thanks for the video, your instructions were clear. However as I’m new to sewing, I wished you had zoomed in on the fabric stitching under the sewing machine so we could see the stitches. Where did you get the pretty bias tape?
My favorite way to gather is to zigzag over top of a piece of carpet thread. Simply pull the carpet thread to the desired length. To hold each end in place as you pull, insert a straight pin, then do a figure 8 with the carpet thread a few times around the pin. It only moves when you want it to. This has helped me so many times.
I actually learned a new trick, enclosing the bodice seam in that manner ....neat idea!

You did a great job explaining and demonstrating as you go. This was extremely helpful! Thank you!
Great video! Thank you. The falling of the thread was hilarious!
I love that you are doing these! I think they will be helpful for both beginner and more advanced sewists!

Thanks for the video, your instructions were clear. However as I’m new to sewing, I wished you had zoomed in on the fabric stitching under the sewing machine so we could see the stitches. Where did you get the pretty bias tape?
Would you recommend gathering by pulling the thread or by gathering foot. Thank you.
Very clear instructions!
Absolutely love the video tutorials!!
Very cute! Thanks!
Makes it look so easy, Debbie Smith
Easy to follow along. Great information. Thank you

I've heard of that idea of using the zigzag stitch for gathering but instead of carpet thread, unwaxed dental floss.
Gracias, es la primera vez que coso algo en mi vida y con este tutorial pude hacerlo muy fácil. Muchas gracias 😊
