2:10 THANK YOU!!!! Finally!! I'm so used to hearing other "punks" say they're Anarchist but dont care about the government at all. I mean how can one oppose something and be indifferent to it? Take a stand, believe what you want! thats what punk is really about. Not studded jackets or hairstyles. Jello 4 Prez!!!
when i listen to albuns by DK i understand that they in 1984 talked about what we are living today, corporations werent that big in the 80s but they knew where things here going, and now DK songs have come true, corporations and governments and banks control us all, and the grip is getting tighter and tighter and people dumber and dumber
I largely agree with the #1 poster above, but creating a society that is "non-hierarchical" is impossible. There will ALWAYS be some form of hierarchy because some people DO THINGS BETTER than other people and those people will naturally be looked to as "leaders." Jello Biafra himself is at the top of a "punk rock" hierarchy as is Henry Rollins and Ian McKaye. In fact, since the # 1 poster above is at the top of this UA-cam thread, he is part of a hierarchy too!
@ofilhodaviuva Hierarchy is just a social ordering system, not necessarily connected to government and not necessarily a bad thing. Recognition for one's art does indeed create a sense of hierarchy because some artists are better than others. In the world of classical music, Yo-Yo Ma is "high" in the hierarchy. People naturally gravitate towards "leaders" or "high achievers" in any given social system. Hierarchy is unavoidable.
Anarchy isn't some kind of 'oh if only people were all perfect, we could have anarchy'. Anarchy is a necessity precisely BECAUSE of how people treat each other, the abuse of power structures and so forth.
@@isetmfriendsofire If people were 'perfect', authoritarian modes of organising human society wouldn't be such a problem because people in positions of authority would always act to the best of their ability in the public interest (etc.). Think the Stoic Marcus Aurelius as emperor of Rome - but he was an extremely unusual person in history. The reality, i.e. the world we actually live in, is totally different. People go power mad, pursue their own career, riches, glory, lie, are bought off, act cowardly, and so on. The sensible thing is, in short, to decentralise power as much as practical. That's the essential purpose of democracy (actual democracy), 'political' and 'economic'. Also why any 'anarchism' that eschews democracy is socially irrelevant. This is just one aspect but it answers your question. In a positive sense, you need a social system which facilitates people cooperating and resolving their differences in a productive, win-win, way. Good will is fairly irrelevant when institutional incentives are anti-social. 'Good' people achieve little on a board of directors when market force dictate that acting on good will means economic annihilation. That's why you must change the system, not just populate it with do gooders. But I digress.
@utube9000 I guess there is not that kind of hierarchy whereby you place Biafra, Rollins and McKaye as "leaders". In my opinion they are people who has gotten attention for their work, not as part of hierarchy, but essencially as notable artists.
it's also interesting that the United States only intervenes in countries under the flag of 'humanitarian intervention', when they have something to gain. Hence why they have left Darfur alone, the Chinese have a monopoly on the fuel supplies there.
Depends on what kind of republican you are talking about. Sure, I think that Jello doesn't agree with the Christian-right republicans (Sarah Palin for example). But he does want as small of a government as possible, which is what most non-religious and religious republican want.
@obnoxiousnickname Well "Libertarian Socialists" are a bit different than Democratic Socialists, the main difference being that Libertarian Socialists usually call for revolution.
You know if you take the song Bleed for me and replace Ronnie with Bush it sounds like it was made just a month ago. Same thing with if you replace Reagan with Bush in "We got a bigger problem now" it sounds like it was made just a year ago. It's really spooky. Dead Kennedys rule.
thanks atleast someone understands what im saying...people also need to realize Anarchy is not Chaos...its just a system without a centralized governing body...it doesnt mean that we would be killing each other in the streets...although maybe we would.
@chrisolaf530 With Noam it's really hard to tell, I've heard interviews where he talks about how great anarchy is but then I hear ones where he trashes it as an impractical theory and talks about socialism. The best bet would be that he is a libertarian socialist which pretty much falls under the umbrella of democratic socialism
@Problems123 even the best insurance companies spend time searching for loop-holes that enable them to withhold money that YOU GAVE THEM! The health-care bill may not be perfect (because the public option was removed and lobbyists fucked the bill's ass with pork) but it is better and far more ethical than any for-profit institution.
@BeatnikFromHell666 So how much land is required for, say, one family to sustain themselves for one year growing their own food? Multiply that by the amount of families in the world then divide that by the amount of arable land available on the planet and tell me if it's sustainable.
well I understand that. I just guess I was thinking you like their music because you agree with the message they want to portray about certain topics. its you and I am not trying to judge in any way
I don't know if anarchism is neat enough to be put into a political ideal. its really a method as I understand it. chompsky talks about how anarchism can be a tool for tearing down what doesn't work when it doesn't work and starting a fresh. s it is about the self regulation of a society where you have small groups of people who determine there own destiny in their area with the combined power of everyone in the community and anything that interrupts that cohesion is removed. similar ideals to socialism in a way but using different methods, using people to enforce social cohesion not the state imposing it on the popul population. see the anarcho cyndicalism in spain, it's been sprouting over there for 80 plus years. worker run and owned enterprises etc
Can someone please tell me how anarchy would work? So we can't believe in god? And how would we get an education or learn the laws of the road and other little things like that?
um, how would you suggest the habits of behavior would chance at all. I´m not saying anarchy is an ideal I´m saying implementing anarchy on any larger scale than could fit comfortably on a few acres is damn near impossible and therefore a waste of energy when we could be focusing on implementing things in our own life that DO work.
@chrisolaf530 Well the divide between reform and revolution is something that has always been present in politics. While it is a big problem with the radical left, most leftist political theories have more to say about how a government is to be run rather than the reform vs revolution. Libertarian Socialism is basically Democratic Socialism with an emphasis on individual rights and freedoms instead of economic equality and classlessness
No it doesn't. You see, music doesn't define who I am. I define who I am. Just because I like the Dead Kennedys doesn't mean have to agree with their policies.
what i mean by that is that as you sink more into a socialist economy we become dependant on the government for support. such as those collecting welfare. in many situations its not wrong to help those in need but we have to stay closer to "equal opportunity" and farther from "equal payoff"
@Problems123 I don't understand you....This video is about not being selfish or greedy and here you are hating on a flawed yet inherently selfless proposition. the Government can take better care of you than a corporation who's only goal is to leech as much money out of you as possible without actually having to pay for your well being. Insurance companies only offer better coverage because it is the only commodity they have to bargain with....continued
well yeah. less government is the way this country started. and it worked for a long time. recently with the government getting more and more involved our countrys been slowely sinking down. both economically and moraly
See that's the thing, we are not by nature gentle creatures. We are savage greedy and violent by nature, what we need to do is stand against the system that says we need to ignore the greedy corporates. Fuck that, I am through starving because our country doesn't give a fuck about us. It is time to take a stand and rise to the occasion, and fight for our rights. How do you think Rosa Parks got known? What about King? JFK? They stood up for them because they had nothing left to lose.
ves with codes of conduct and such, we are by nature very gentile creatures we just have to let down all this armour of sensibilities beliefs and such and just relax and fall back into nature dont worry reality isn't out to get you you belong to it
@TheAnarcrusty so because he is black that makes him unable to be criticized for anything, including pushing the very same policies as Bush did? Wow...
@straightedge442 A better term for that particular term that is so readily bandied about these day is Propertarianism. Libertarianism is the word the original European anarchists ascribed to themselves, now it has been corrupted and recouperarated by the hard right.
I wasn't trying to win shit you just pissed me off, but thats "survival world" for ya my point (has nothing to do with being right just necesary) is that noone has to stay in it and most people can't handle it ("trash a bank if you got real balls"). I'm sorry about your dad I know what thats like.
friends for sure but if anyone in the world is just a dick it might be me. And its all good on the knocking of opinon thing.... its easy to misinterperet it for some kumbiah shit but I just gotta live simply or I go crazy and start attacking strangers again, and like most people I usually think everyone should agree with me lol..... I'm less of a hippy and more just struggling to stay off my meds and out of prison at the same time.... Just try to do the same homie its a interesting lifestyle

not necessarily, I think you're thinking of "MTV anarchy" not conceptual anarchy. under an anarcho-capitalist society we would have private police hired by the people, we would have a localized court system that would only have jurisdiction to the town or city and would run under most of the basic constitutional laws that America should be running today but has forgotten. Anarchism is naturally socialist anyways. Anarchism is just radical socialism. I'll try and make a venn diagram type thing for you all: ((Anarchism)Socialism)

I guess lotsa undercover punks out there. No studs, no leather, no died and spiked hairs!
Not only that, but they ignore Capitalism too as if the rich arent only on it for themselves

Love Dead Kennedys. I feel like they’re the closest we had in the 80’s to the English anarcho-punk scene in terms of sound and message.
Spot on, DK and SubHumAns are still the two best at opening up the mental floodgates
Boulder in Colorado. I love his accent too; it's very soothing.
DK in the magical year of 1984? Awesome!!
~now it is nineteen eighty-four, knock-knock at-a your front door!~
Music is still relevent, What a stage dive by jello!!
punk has and always will be to me more then music
2:04...sadly almost everyone I work with thinks that way...
ah man! they cut it short b4 the song ended. jello has an awesome stage presence
Jello Biafra for president.
Ray looking quite dapper in that concert footage 😎
this video is not really that much of jello on anarchism but more of the song we've got a bigger problem now

he might run for prez in 2012
ye! hes really good when it comes to taking the piss out of people. he can just change lyrics on the spot
