  • Volvo Trucks North America has recently unveiled the 2024 Volvo VNL, heralding a groundbreaking advancement in the realm of heavy-duty trucking. This latest model is set to redefine industry standards through its innovative design, focusing on safety, driver comfort, connectivity, and environmental sustainability. With a suite of new features and improvements, the 2024 Volvo VNL promises to enhance the driving experience and operational efficiency for truckers and fleet operators alike.
    At the core of Volvo's mission is a steadfast commitment to safety. The 2024 Volvo VNL introduces an array of both active and passive safety technologies. Noteworthy among these is the Volvo Active Driver Assist Plus with Pilot Assist, which offers active lane centering capabilities, powered by Volvo Dynamic Steering. This system significantly improves maneuverability, stabilizes the truck across all speeds, and provides essential corrections during crosswinds, highway crowning, and emergency situations such as tire failures. Another critical safety feature is the pedestrian detection system, designed to alert drivers to potential hazards in their path, including pedestrians and bicyclists, and to initiate automatic emergency braking when necessary.
    The truck also boasts class-leading passive safety systems, including a high-strength steel cab construction and the E-Call feature, which automatically connects drivers to emergency services following significant accidents, ensuring rapid response times.
    Understanding the importance of driver comfort, Volvo Trucks has meticulously designed the interior of the VNL. The optional Global Rear Air Suspension (GRAS) system, complemented by Volvo Smart Suspension software, offers a superior ride quality, reducing roll and pitch angles for a more stable and comfortable driving experience. The integrated Volvo Parking Cooler further enhances driver comfort by maintaining an optimal cabin climate, thereby reducing emissions and fuel costs.
    Interior upgrades focus on creating a "home away from home" for drivers, with amenities such as an optional folding bunk, multi-functional control panels, upgraded insulation for better climate control and noise reduction, a larger refrigerator, and ample power options for devices.
    The Volvo VNL features the integrated Volvo Connect platform, a comprehensive digital service hub that provides insights into vehicle data, diagnostics, fuel economy, safety reports, and more. The Volvo MyTruck app allows drivers to monitor essential vehicle parameters and receive notifications about potential issues, fostering a proactive approach to maintenance and safety.
    The power behind the 2024 Volvo VNL is Volvo's renowned D13 engine, available in four horsepower ratings from 405 hp to 500 hp, and three torque ratings ranging from 1,750 pound-feet to 1,950 pound-feet. This versatility ensures that there's a configuration for every need, balancing power with fuel efficiency. The latest generation D13 engine pairs with an improved I-Shift transmission, featuring faster shift speeds and better clutch engagement, emphasizing automatic transmission to cover all driver needs.
    The 2024 Volvo VNL is designed with the future in mind, ready to accommodate upcoming technologies such as battery-electric, fuel cell, and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels. This forward-thinking approach aligns with Volvo's goal for all its sales to be zero-emission vehicles by 2040, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
    The 2024 Volvo VNL represents a significant leap forward in the heavy-duty trucking industry. With its focus on safety, driver comfort, connectivity, and environmental sustainability, Volvo Trucks North America continues to set new standards. Whether it's the cutting-edge safety features, the driver-centric design, the powerful and efficient engine options, or the seamless digital connectivity, the new Volvo VNL is poised to transform the driving experience for truckers across North America.

    You notice they didn’t say reliability being a main concern when it should be their primary concern. Volvo makes some comfortable and great riding trucks but I could never keep mine out of the shop.

    Why Volvo just bring a power pack from Sweden? that D13 is not powerful enough to carry heavy loads, we need something like 15L 700 HP 3000 NM , not D 13L 425 HP and 1650 NM- this can pull 80 000 lb on flat land, but up and down is totally different ball game. And that 10% extra fuel savings...bla bla bla, if we add all the fuel savings %, with every new model Volvo put out including from that venture with Whites Trucks USA, then Volvo truck shoudl do 18-20 miles on a gallon of diesel, and I have a Volvo and I get 6.5 MPG on average, so that Swedish Math is a bit different then reality. All Volvo engines are built in Sweden, the 750hp ones too. Regardless, I drive a 13 litre 500hp volvo, and it pulls Swedish max loads just fine. That's 64 metric tons, ie 141,000 lbs.

      They offer a 500hp with 1950lbft rating, which is only 100lbft below Cummins X15 and DD16 max torque ratings.

      Same problem. I couldn't stay on Volvo of 13L. 450HP. I choose 2019 Cascadia DD15, 505HP. But I don't like Cascadia 126, a roof is liking. But for my job I need power.

    I liked the 780 I owned. But I had an upgrzded shifter package that allowed me to maintain a gear that I chose for grades. The absolute worst thing I had the misfortune of driving was the collision avoidance system with the automatic braking. In 28+ years in every state under every possible weather /road conditions I managed to go into the beginning of a jackknife. I did manage to recover but that damned system applied the brakes when another vehicle came back in on me. Without intending to hit the brakes as hard as that stupid computer, it threw me into the slide. When it happens, you also lose the ability to steer properly. If I cannot turn it off, I will never drive another. Dumbest idea I seen.

      @dallasclayton3001 6 місяців тому

      @kimberlyhemerson4828 give it time. That dpf system or transmission will have you on the hook. Then the repairs and down time will pull that 9 to a 2.5. Volvo and cascadia 99% of all tows and almost always those 2 issues. They are cheap made fleet trucks made to last 350k miles.
