Volvo Trucks has launched a completely new Volvo VNL in North America to set new industry standards in heavy-duty trucking. Optimized aerodynamics and new technologies have improved fuel efficiency by up to 10%. This all-new truck features the next generation of enhancements to improve customer value, driver productivity, safety, and sustainability.
The new Class 8 Volvo VNL is designed to meet the challenges and demands of the North American market and transform the driving experience in this segment.

“The all-new Volvo VNL was designed to change everything. However, change doesn’t only come with a redesigned truck-this product introduction is the start of a new era for Volvo Trucks, our customers, and their drivers-a quantum leap forward,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “When we launched the first generation of the Volvo VN in 1996, its ‘unconventional’ aerodynamic body style set a new standard for the North American trucking industry. As we bring the all-new Volvo VNL to market, we are excited to once again introduce innovations that will shape the future of the transportation industry for years to come.”
The new Volvo VNL is based on an all-new platform for all upcoming technologies, including battery-electric, fuel cell and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels including hydrogen. The first 24-volt electrical infrastructure in the North American trucking industry and active safety features are introduced in this new generation of Volvo trucks will be the standard for the future commercialization of fully autonomous trucks.
Improved fuel efficiency with redefined aerodynamics & driveline enhancements
Aerodynamic resistance has a major impact on the fuel efficiency of a truck. The streamlined and more angular, wedge-shaped cab design of the new Volvo VNL, featuring a redesigned windshield, are key factors in achieving up to 10% improvement in fuel efficiency. Additional aerodynamic gains were created from the integration of the curved and bonded windshield, tighter clearances around turbulent air areas as well as a tighter trailer gap.
The new Volvo VNL is powered by the latest generation D13 engine that delivers improved fuel efficiency, performance, and durability. The D13 engine is available in four horsepower ratings, ranging from 405 to 500hp and three torque ratings from 2370 to 2640Nm.
Improved Safety Features
A variety of new active safety systems are offered with the new truck, including Volvo Active Driver Assist Plus with Pilot Assist, which provides active lane centering. This system is powered by Volvo Dynamic Steering, which improves maneuvering at all speeds, including more controlled backing, and increases stability at all road speeds.
Class-leading passive safety systems offered in the new Volvo VNL include the bonded and wrapped windshield improving visibility for drivers, bolstering safety and reducing wind noise in the cab. The cab of the new Volvo VNL is designed according to Volvo Trucks leading crash test standards and will be available with a North American industry-first side-curtain airbag incorporated on the driver and passenger side of the cab.
Sales of the new Volvo VNL will begin in the coming months with production at the Volvo Trucks New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia. - Авто та транспорт

I can’t believe Volvo is so behind in technology in America. We have had all this technology in the Volvo in Europe for years. Do love the look and size
We’ve had this technology in America for years as well in other brands. That’s why Volvo isn’t #1 in America. I love the design as well.

Finally Volvo has set a newer higher level of standarts for American trucks, I hope Paccar and Daimler truck makers will finally realize that they cant continue selling us brand new trucks stuffed with outdated technology features. Volvo is the new level now.

They look absolutely ridiculous without side door mirrors .
That’s because your brain is use to seeing trucks with side mirrors.
@vigilant4200, Must be many brains where I come from . They tried them out where I come from and those sh!t mirrors don't work as good as exterior mirrors . Anyways nobody buys them here anymore they went back to exterior mirrors .
I like the side mirrors too. If you look at the video again you will see there are a couple of models that have the door mirrors.
You know if we take the extra % of savings that Volvo claims it did get with every new series of trucks from the time they did come to USA and have venture with Whites and then with Mack, lets put all of it together and we will come up that the newest Volvo truck should do 18-20 MPG loaded with total weight 80 000 lb, but as we know it the trucks do get maybe 6.5 - 7 MPG, the new look its nice, the extra in side the cab is nice too, but haw about the power train system? DD 12.4 the old engine was BETTER than the DD13, looks are not everything, and that after treatment of NOX that is braking apart all the time !!!!! Volvo should work on that, not on oh we put Murphy bed in the cab. TH
