When you get out of the Dadar Station, which is one of the busiest railway stations of Mumbai, and walk outside towards the east side, you notice a high rise temple just opposite the station. It's a magnificent pink coloured structure which stands out in the jungle of cement buildings.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a spiritual, volunteer-driven fellowship dedicated to improving society through individual growth by fostering the Hindu values of faith, service and global harmony.
The temple is a huge Hindu temple with decorative statues of gods and goddesses, marble prayer halls and an auditorium.
The Murtis in the Mandir in centre are of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami and Shri Gopalanand Swami. The second section has murtis is of
Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj, and the third section is of Shri Harikrishna Maharaj and Shri Radha-Krishna Dev.
This is the most famous Swaminarayan temples of Mumbai. This is BAPS Swaminarayan Temple, is the eighth Swaminarayan Temple constructed in India at Dadar by BAPS, which stands for the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. The temple was built almost 40 years back. 24 incarnations of the gods are depicted on its walls.
Made in a period of five years, the temple was constructed in 1983 out of pink stone. It was the first temple made by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who heads the BAPS Swaminarayan sect. In Mumbai, there are 8,000 families, who are its devotees, while across India, the figure stands at over a million.
Like most other Swaminarayn Temples, the Dadar one too has intricate carving of various Hindu gods on its walls and premises, which have been made by 150 artisans. The architecture is associated to Sompura arts and traditional Indian architecture of Hindu temples.
Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami, Shri Gopalanand Swami, Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj, Shri Harikrishna Maharaj and Shri Radha-Krishna Dev are the gods for whom the temple was made.
The temple is open seven days a week and darshan timings are from 8 am to 9 pm.
Prime festivals celebrated in the temple are Ram Navami/Swaminarayan Jayanti, Janmashtami, Vaman Jayanti, Nrisimha Jayanti, Mahashivaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc. Apart from these, the festival of Hindola is also celebrated as part of the festivities during the month of Shravan.
Very beautiful and relaxing temple. Very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. Very well maintained. All volunteers are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful place of devotion in Dadar. There is also a shop where spiritual books, dhup batti, photos are available at reasonable price. Aarti happens at 7:00 pm daily.
This BAPS Swaminarayan Temple located in Dadar, Mumbai. Amazing experience, very peaceful place. This place is really nice. I felt very refreshed after visiting this temple. As you step into the temple, your soul will feel at peace, as you have darshan of Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj, it is really satisfying. This is really a very nice place. Jai Swaminarayan.
