  • An overview of Fairfield Circuitry’s newest effect pedal, Roger That!-a gnarly, distortion-type effect inspired by the noisy artifacts of radio technology.
In this video I’ll go over what Roger That is, how it works, and I’ll share lots of demos using Roger That as a standalone instrument, as a processor for acoustic instruments, in combination with Eurorack modular and semi-modular synthesizers, and in effect chains with other pedals.

Curious about modular synthesis, electronic music, and sound design, but unsure how to get started?
I have something for you! Join my FREE "Intro to Synthesis" mini course here: www.soundandsynthesis.com/firstpatch2022
PS: You don't need any special gear to do this-just a computer with VCV Rack (which is free to download).

It's so refreshing to have a youtuber who highlights 1.) noise specific devices and 2.) how they interact with more "standard" gear-- and in depth at that! Loving it. Keep it up!

In the vast wasteland of pedal demoing I find this to be a fresh breath. Whereas most channels market themselves as small homemade burger joints, they actually serve Macdonalds in different wrappings. After watching this I fell exactly like I do after I have eaten a good homemade burger.

Sarah, I think I speak for all of us when I say that you have set the bar for pedal demos in 2023. What an odyssey! 🔊🥰

This takes me back to my childhood days after I finally got my RadioSchack 120 in one electronics lab’s diy radio transmitter circuit to work, and I heard my own voice coming in on my dad’s receiver. THAT was the beginning of recording music performances for me! I ALWAYS had to record stuff through that darned diy transmitter, to the tuner. To think that other fellow audio enthusiasts would agree with my opinion, that there is something worth playing with in an effect pedal like this. It makes me feel a deeper connection with the wider World at large, and I find a certain assurance that I’m not crazy like my family says.

This was absolutely amazing!!! I almost have no words lol, all the examples you used were so cool! And when you were making noises in the mic and the scream was almost haunting, the cool stuff you could do live with it could be endless, I could see the band Godspeed you! Black emperor using this. Well done!! New sub here 😎🤘

Really enjoyed your F.C. Roger That! demo, played through your trumpet. Fairfield Circuitry really makes top notch unique dynamic effects. Recently purchased their Shallow Water - Special Edition SKFM. Remarkable modulator. Cheers.

Wow. I'm impressed by the fact you're so calm, so nice in your explanations, and then release the abyss of the human mind, travelling through those experimental sounds in a glorious epic of tones! I came from guitar, and I've already been seduced by this thing working with it, but this is what dissolves all doubts: I need to buy a Roger That! I'm always looking for those harsh, noisy, and dirty soundscapes, and I think I found what I wanted. Thanks for this incredible video, it is as helpful as it is enjoyable: you get an additional subscriber!

That pedal and what you do with it are both very impressive! Finally some real world example of sounds made by a creative musician and not just a guitar noodler. Have you tried it with a mic AND an amp? I play accordion with a mic and most drive effects gets me into instant uncontrollable feedback in a live context.

does it actually have an RF tuner on the PCB or what? sounds like it's just FM modulating an audio source with (white/colored) noise... cv input for 'tune' is a nice touch

good review but i think it would be very hard to use this effect musically unless you were into the noise genre. what would have been cool is if they had integrated that ham radio sound (like the radio communication you hear in star wars). Years ago Moog had actually made an april fools joke about a new moogerfooger they were making that was basically what this pedal does lol.
