Damn...and that was just the QR! How many skaters can put together back to back to back near (if not) completely perfect performances on a stage as big as Worlds? Michelle was a one in a million...there will never be another...
Amazing competitor. She fought for every single jump, but just the fact that she was able to pull them off shows how well-trained and consistent she is. That's a champion!
Me too. It would be so nice to have another one of her revelatory performances. I sometimes wonder though, if she had won Olympic Gold in 98, would we have had the Scheherezade at 02 Nationals? If she had won Olympic Gold in 02, would we have had the Aranjuez of 03 Worlds, or Tosca of 04 Nationals?
Just my opinion, but I really enjoyed the Miraculous Mandarin. I wished she would have kept it because I thought it was a great departure for her and something that nobody else was attempting at that time. I liked it!
Brendon Groen and you were complaining about the skating 11 years ago? Really? With Yuna Kim, Mao Asada and Carolina Kostner + others beautiful skaters like Mirai Nagasu and Akiko Suzuki. I wonder what you think about skating now, with the Russians dominating everything 😂 this is really painful to watch
Joao campelo I think the COP wasn’t good for skating 11 years ago. Now it’s way worse. I like all of the skaters you mentioned and I wish they were all back!
A plateau it may be, but a very high plateau. After 1999, she won 3 more Worlds Championship, 6 more Nationals titles, and an Olympic Bronze. That a mighty high plateau there. That would be the Mount Kilamanjaro of plateaus. Artistically, I think Michelle had taken the most risks between 1999 and 2003 with her musical selections. Some didn't work out for her like the Miraculous Mandarin but others haven't been heard from in years. When was the last time an elite skater chose TRV?
@Novak D Michelle shouldn't be alone at the 2002 Olympics, she needed Frank Carroll to support her. Michelle was the only one skater went to the Olympics without a coach in the history, she still got the bronze...
I wish they wouldn't babble so much so we could just enjoy the skating/music ~ like tennis ~ Americans babble, but in Wimbledon they're polite and quiet. Do we really need to know ALL this? lol .. I sure do miss seeing her ~ she's my all time favorite.
In some regards I can agree. There was repetition of passes, spins etc. At times I think she was a victim of her own success, in that she did not have to take risks or do drastically different things and yet she still one. Sure she was solid, but if it works why fix it? After 1999, I think she hit a plateau artistically. Although Aranjuez and Tosca were some of my favorites, as well as this performance.
i hope she can come back and win the olympics in a year!!!!!! i miss her! i dont' even watch skating anymore cuz i doin't care about any of the newbies i've never heard of any of them
So well done. There is a beautiful lightness in Michelle's skating that we don't see anymore.

@Novak D She did in 1998; just couldn't replicate it in 2002.

It pains me to watch this, and then compare it to today's skating. There is no comparison. COME BACK MICHELLE!

She skated these programs 1 year too early.
She was flying across the ice.
michelle is an artist,,, she doesn't need a gold medal in olympics games,

Freakin awesome! The Kween of figure skating!
MK was so on here at the 2001 World that it made it that much sadder how off she was a year later at SLC.
@Novak D Michelle shouldn't be alone at the 2002 Olympics, she needed Frank Carroll to support her. Michelle was the only one skater went to the Olympics without a coach in the history, she still got the bronze...
Michelle Kwan's amazing! Love her!
I can't wait until I learn as many 3x jumps as her. Figure skating is harder than it looks. That's why I love it.
Yay Michelle! Woohoo!
She skates so well... but it just really saddens me that she did not win an Olympic Gold. Go Michelle, win the Gold in 2010!!!

M.K. the best thing on ice since Johnny Walker Red

there's no age limit, and she's not even that old pumpkin, she has more talent than any of these new girls
