    I'm a plumber and always have plumber's silicone grease around. It is made for rubber seals and gaskets, so I use it on the old bowl gaskets to help keep them pliable and soft. Works great and can be found at any hardware in small hand-held tubes.

    I don't trust my abilities with carburetors. So its worth $25 to $35 , I just buy a new one.. I also like a fuel shut off for when I'm done mowing and I know I'm not going to mow for awhile I'll shut the fuel off while the engine is running and let the machine run all the gas out of the carburetor.. same with generators.

    Just an oddity, if your float chamber fails the contents of the fuel tank can end up in the sump 😳 it happened to me. I couldn’t understand why the oil level was far higher than it should have been. I was lucky and no damage was done. I overhauled the carb changed the oil and fitted a shut off tap and no problems since. It may help someone for future reference. Why Snapper don’t fit a shut off tap is beyond me?

    Hi Jim... this series you are doing is awesome.. I just wanted you to know. My uncle was a snapper, Toro, and Stihl dealer. We my mom and step dad bought a rer 12 horse briggs and Stratton Snapper. The mower was very well maintained. Til about 3 years ago. My sister couldn't start it with key. She used the pull starter. Well the carb started leaking. No biggie . Well she let mower set out all winter battery in it. I pick up mower kinda pissed. Cause she never s add I'd anything. So I get mower I charge battery. I replaced battery juice and refill it. Had to repair starter. Now I had to take the PUll start off top of engine. Cause it messed up. Where can I get new pull start assembly that bolts on top of engine. I would like to get one. I just think that the lawn mower shop my step dad and sister are not very good. The plastic is rounded and the pLastic needs to be square. The mower was bought new in 93. Looks really good for age. I washed it. And around the bottom of deck. I sprayed it red again. I blended the paint. Goal is to get running like new. So I can mow my lawn and my moms lawn with and make my stepdad proud. He loved this mower. He passed this past November. I didnt know my sister was letting it sit outside in the rain and snow. I dont have a garage or a shed. I got it covered with a heavy tarp. On my drive pad. It dont get wet or anything. Cause I got tarp strap down nicely. Pull start repair please and thank you. 12 horse b and a i/c..

    That horseshoe shaped choke linkage is a nightmare to figure out where it attaches at the control end on my one piece carb. I've heard it goes into a slot but I don't see any slot on my control unit. It has some sort of bar but the linkage comes out and falls off on the engine side. Perplexing.

    Can you use boiling 212 degrees simple green to clean the carburetor Jim ??? Or maybe temperature in the 150 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit range will work ??? Do not have a ultrasound machine.

      A lot of your carburetors today have plastic parts in them I don’t think I would put them in boiling water it will distort the plastic and ruin the carburetor.
      I think a good rule of thumb would be if you can’t put your hand in the water and leave it there it’s probably too hot Jim

      I would say it’s either the carburetor or gas flow take the gas line off of the carburetor and make sure the fuel is flowing at the rate of a stream the size of the inside of the hose you could have a collapsed hose you could have a plug fuel filter if you have one you could have a faulty fuel shut off valve if you have one or you could have a problem with the gas tank check that out and let me know. @jimjackson9381  4 роки тому +2

      Joe Frank
      Well if your carburetor has jets in it, it will have to be an old one to have them you need to adjust both of the Jets the high-speed jet will be on the bottom of the float bowl in the center of the nut that holds it on in the low-speed jet will be up on the side of the carburetor and you will be able to find them because they will have a spring around the outside of the jet that is what supposed to keep them from vibrating and getting out of sync. • @jimjackson9381
      @jimjackson9381  Рік тому

      The new carburetors I don’t think you can adjust them you just clean them and if that don’t work you buy a new one, the old carburetors had a high-speed jet on the bottom of the float ball and a low speed jet up on the top of the carburetor after they got rid of the high speed jet all you had is the low speed jet on the top of the carburetor now you don’t have either, to adjust the old carburetors start the engine you run it wide open and you turn The jet either in or out until the engine starts running rough and you back it up slightly these low speed jet you slowly engine all the way down to a needle and do the same with that one. If one should decide to replace their NIKKI carbs, there are several online outlets you order from...cheaper then a rebuild kit. But you may have to reuse the throttle and choke shafts from your original carb. It’s an easy little project. The geometry on the new carb’s linkage will likely be different, preventing the choke and governor from operating properly.

    Hi Jim, I have a mid 80s Snapper, I think it's a series 5? Fitted with a Tecumseh engine that is struggling to run when cutting, it's like it's not getting enough fuel. Would a carb clean be the best first step to resolving the issue do you think? It runs ok on full choke, but doesnt when you take the choke off. Great videos by the way, I'm watching them over here in the UK.

      Hi it’s Jim
      Well glad to hear I’m reaching all The way to the united kingdom. But yes that would be the first thing I would try is cleaning the carburetor, if you have an in-line gas filter I would change that and see if that makes a difference first and make sure your gas cap is venting properly so gas can get out of the tank to the engine if the vent on the gas cap is not working properly the engine won’t run very good at all. Hi Jim, I am new to your web site. I have a question I have a chainsaw 2 cycle that I used last in 2004. It has varnish and oil stuck to the bottom of the tank. Would you recommend cleaning a 2cycle the same way as your video? Fresh gas and stones. The gas tank is not removable. looking forward to your recommendations.

      Hi John
      There’s a few issues you should take into consideration is there a gas line in gas filter hanging loose inside of the gas tank you will have to be careful of that not to damage to filter,
      I don’t know if I would recommend gasoline and very small stones. on the off chance it could create a spark that wouldn’t be good, if you can’t get to the beach this time of year and pick up the small gravel and I’m talking about pieces and eighth of an inch and smaller, You can go to the pet store and get gravel for the inside of a aquarium.
      I would use simple green cleaner and small pieces of gravel you may have to let it soak for a day or two to try to dissolve the varnish Then shake it. Let me know how it works out for you thanks Jim
