Hello Joey! I have enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing. I would simply add that pre-war, Liberia was one of the most affluent countries in Africa, West Africa in particular. War brought poverty and the destruction you experienced. Also, Liberians were always very kind people, not just because of the war. Any American who visited Liberia before the war would tell you same. Lastly, we speak standard English as well as colloquial, which is what you’ve shared on here. Standard English is spoken in professional environments: schools, offices, etc. In some homes, only standard English is allowed. Glad you had a good time. Hope you return😊

Haha yes I didn't mean you don't speak standard English but in the interior it is definitely not the normally spoken dialect. I was supposed to teach in standard English but found the students could not understand me unless I spoke in colloquial

@@JoeyBriggs I'm glad she clarified this because I also had the impression from your video that they only spoke colloquial. I agree that it's also important to honor pre-war Liberia to pay proper respect to their strength as a nation especially if speaking so much on the misfortunes of the current state. But I do love how warm you described the community.

Nice video!!!! I moved to America in 2016 but before then, we had these American missionaries (husband and wife). They went to Liberia to start a school and clinic. Same as you, they gradually adopted to our culture. The wife ran the school and the husband ran the clinic. The wife got pregnant there and gave birth there. Their parents also went to visit them there. Long story short, their time there expired and the community had a very huge farewell party for them. tell you for free, they never stopped crying. It was a sad day for our community.

I enjoyed your commentary on the diet, globalization comes to the forefront. We covered this extensively in my cultural anthropology class when discussing sustenance patterns across various cultures. It’s insane to think that in the US, you can generally eat whatever you want, there’s always something regardless of the season, and this concept of globalized markets just kinda fades away. The market commentary reminded me of the crop rotation and agriculture we went reviewed. It would be cool if you could document that maybe on your next trip if you ever go back!

@@JoeyBriggs I am a born Liberian. Lived in Liberia up to my 16th birthday before moving to the US of A. You are right! LIBERIA main struggle are electricity and running water. Even though there are many things that the country lacks, like road connection, infrastructure, etc. But electricity and running water have been a problem especially for those who live outside the capital city, Monrovia. I used to live in Gardnerville, about 20 miles from the capital. It was just recently the new government installed street lights in the capital. I left my country in 2018. I think the economy is getting better. Thanks for sharing your experience, and for your service to my country, and for deleting the misconception about Africa.

Just joined your channel very interesting.I presently live in the USA .O am from Liberia and I live in the city at that time. left the country for a while .I am sorry but this is not the Liberia that I know. You were living in the village. They do have have electricity. But people do live decent at the time. Sorry but you are the people that discouraged 😞 other people from visiting Liberia .If we continue to get bad publicity no one will want to go and visit.Liberia or want to invest their money.. Liberia use to really be a beautiful country.friendly group of people.

I hope you did not take the video the wrong way. I absolutely loved my time in Liberia and love my community and the country. I was sharing this to show what the country is like so more people will visit. I did want to share a realistic view though because I don't want to mislead anyone. I do not think this is bad publicity at all?

Hey man, What do u mean by "jungle and rain forest part of Africa"? Have you really been to Africa? It's not a jungle like you make it seem. Visit Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, etc. There are not all jungles, no hunter-gatherers in east, central and south Africa like ur making it seem. The animals your talking about roam the game parks (the plains you talked about that are designated land for wildlife), these are usually government owned land and have very limited human settlement (mostly tourists, tour guides, safari lodge staff, some farmers with licenses to keep wildlife like zebras, antelopes, etc). Follow this guy (in link below) and see Africa or even better, travel to east, central and south Africa:
