- In a remote area of the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan lies and abandoned time capsule of limestone mining history. The abandoned Fiborn Quarry. We explore the quarry, its remaining buildings and some of its history.
Thank you for educating me even more in our Great State of Michigan. Love the history!
Thanks Brother!

Welcome! Thanks for hanging with us!
Remember going to this place as a kid I kinda remember a river nearby and a huge culvert under part of the ground with a pond on the other end
I visited this place several times when I lived in the area. I remember thinking that the concrete for the crusher was poorly placed even for the time. Someone told me that there was a company town on the road in but I never found much evidence of it. I do remember rr ties still in place here and there.
Nice video! I have been through the quarry but did not have time to explore.
I think we talked about a trip there during the Mackinaw Excursion.
Hi guys, wondering if this was a company town due to its remote location? Additionally, was the powerhouse coal-fired steam generation?
Hey George,
It was a company camp, but with only 75 people at its peak. I don't think it had sevices like a post office, etc. The next town was just a few mile via rail. It's only access was via rail.
I can't say on coal or firewood. I found precious little information on the machinery. But, pictures with locomotives showed some coal smoke, but that could have only been for locomotives. It was certainly possible to get coal to the area aboard the same cars that took the minerals.
@@RestlessViking Thank you for the update, much appreciated!
I have never read any geological history relating to the laying down of limestone in the UP
That graffiti looks like works of art.
