​@@pf_5243 the bad reviews came from the fact that the Broadway production Disneyfied the show. It was big, shiny, and soulless, which is not a slight towards the talented cast but a reflection of how misguided the director and producers were. Howard Ashman, when he was alive, refused to bring it to Broadway, insisting that Off Broadway intimacy was key to the show’s success. The current revival, unlike this run, is truer to Howard’s vision which along with a revolving door of star casting, has kept it running for almost 5 years.
