    As a beginner learning how to use manual mode on my camera I am excited about luminar because it gives me the opportunity to fix up my photos without having to know editing just yet it helps me to enjoy my photos a lot more. I am still interested in learning how to edit and I play around a lot in an affinity I like having an easy option. It eliminates a lot of frustration and disappointment that would otherwise be discouraging.

    • @FulaanCreative

      I've never let any software create and manage my catalogs. Once the software goes ass-up, your catalogs go ass up. I point the apps to specific job folders I create and back-up. I can open each job with any piece of software, and the organized job folder stays where it is.

    • @jamesgerboc
      @jamesgerboc 8 місяців тому

      @craigjohnchronicles2504 Not sure I agree. If you use cataloging the way it is intended and take advantage of its capability, you can't do that otherwise. How do you find all your "sunrise" photos? Also, if Lightroom went away tomorrow, and I lost my catalog, I have an XMP file for each image. I just import my images into another application. I would probably look at Adobe Bridge which is another powerful way to manage images. But I would never suggest not using some form of cataloging images.

      @@jamesgerboc - If your job is shooting sunset photos, then wouldn't you make a sunset folder?
      If I'm looking for a sunset photo from a particular wedding or portrait session, then I'm going right to that client's folder and pulling the photo I need.
      Easy either way.

    • @jamesgerboc
      @jamesgerboc 8 місяців тому

      @@craigjohnchronicles2504 My point is, it would be nearly impossible with a catalog, to instantly search all your images for a list of photos with sunsets in them. Weddings and portrait photographers are more likely than others to look at their database through a client lens than others. Keep in mind not all photographers do that. But what if someone wanted to publish your photos taken in the evening, or in March, with a specific lens or camera, or the ones you feel are your best work? I feel like your comment is based on a very narrow view of photography?

    Can't batch rename, size down, and batch export takes hours where lightroom takes 15 min on something like a wedding with full size files. It all starts withe the culling. I don't beleive you can batch watermark either. Contacted Neo, they said they would share with with the dev team. It's so basic. Sure there are some pretty features with Neo. Really wanted it to work this week since adobe, being adobe. Neo needs to fix/add in what working pros use as basic daily culling necessity. Crawl, walk, run then fly. Need the basics if your volume. Great for non pros.

    I honestly love Luminars software. I've been following their development for many years now, and while they changed the name a bunch of times, the product hasn't changed as much lol. It's definitely fun to use and enables beginners to do some crazy tricks. You also completely missed talking about layers, a feature I also overlooked at the start.
    But my largest gripe with it, and the reason I always come back to Lightroom Classic no matter how much I hate it, is the ridiculously underpowered export module. LRCs export module is insanely powerful with presets, naming templates, batch processing and even plugin support. Neo can't even rename my files on export. It's ridiculously bad, and it has not received a singular update since the very first versions of Luminar. In LRC I can run multiple export jobs at once, for internal use with camera Metadata, low resolution exports for social media with Metadata removed, and special exports with metadata overlays and watermarks all in a few clicks. It is unrivaled and saves me so many headaches I would otherwise have renaming, organizing and watermarking my deliverables.

      Interesting. I'm sure there was much more to mention as it was a very brief video. I hope Skylum reads your comment and they update whatever needs updating in the export module. When I edit photos it's usually a one off thing and I'm hardly ever editing large batches together so I didn't run into any issues exporting the files.

    Ah, come on Fulaan. Your review misses all of the "cons" of Neo. One of the most important tools in any editing workflow is masking and Neo fails miserably. Perhaps you have never used Lightroom's merge feature and you forgot to mention that Neo's merge feature is an add on that costs extra. You should compare Photoshop's sky replacement to Neo's. Where did you get the crazy idea that Lrc only works in the cloud and not on a desktop? Neo has created some tools that simplify the things you can do in other editing apps but please tell the whole story.

    • @FulaanCreative

      This video was 5 reasons why you should use Luminar over Lightroom. The things you are mentioning would be for another video titled 5 reasons to use lightroom over Luminar Neo which I may do in the future. My lightroom and photoshop subscription only runs through creative cloud, maybe older versions can be used locally but the one I pay for is cloud based. There are many things that lightroom and photoshop do better but Luminar makes some of them possible without having to use 2 separate programs. Regarding lightrooms merge feature; you are right I didn't know they had an HDR merge feature. I have always used photoshop for that. Never the less the point of the video was not to say Luminar Neo is better but instead to point out 5 reasons I'd use it over lightroom and photoshop.

    • @dktraveller8364
      @dktraveller8364 11 місяців тому +1

      @FulaanCreative well I'm sure your intentions were good, and I do not want to seem nasty, but people watch these videos and believe what they hear. Even before you answered my first comment, you should have checked with Adobe and found that the current plan of Lrc and Ps runs as a stand-alone and does not require the cloud. Not knowing that Lrc has HDR merge shows that you have much to learn before making comparisons. There are several influencers out there that really know Lrc, and they could help you out. Best of luck. I will watch for your next video to see how you make out.

      @@dktraveller8364 I appreciate the constructive criticism. I'll check out everything you mentioned and if it's true I'll add an update as a pinned comment as well as addressing it in future lightroom/luminar videos . Take care.

      @@dktraveller8364 Alright I looked into it. So here is what I found. Regarding the cloud vs desktop issue; Lightroom is available on it's own without LRc and lightroom is only available via cloud. Lrc is available on desktop but does not come with the cheapest monthly lightroom plan. Photoshop on the other hand is only available through creative cloud and not on desktop. Regarding the HDR merge feature; although I didn't know LRc had the feature I did not mention that it didn't have it although I could see how it could be interpreted that way. Just to clarify in the beginning of the video I said that the intent of the video is to highlight "5 features that may make you want to use luminar neo over photoshop and lightroom or at the very least add it as a plugin to lightroom and photoshop". I hope that clarifies.

      @FulaanCreative Fulaan, you have to dig a bit deeper. The Adobe plan is called "photography," and it includes Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop on desktop and iPad, and 20GB of cloud storage. It is 12.99 Canadian or I believe 9.99USD per Mos. When looking at the various plans on Adobe, click on "photo" in the left panel and you will see it.

    Welcome to the era of fake photography. Why did I even bother try to take great photos all this years?

      Not sure that's accurate. Painters probably said the same thing when cameras were invented but people still like paintings....

      Many of the AI features in photoshop are dependent on the cloud. I was speaking in context of those features that don't work without an internet connection.

    I don't understand your admiration. It has nothing to do with photography. Instead of taking good photos - playing with computer graphics. This is software for photographic lazy people.

      I'm with you however people also use photography for commercial purposes like Product photos etc. In those cases the client only cares about the final product not how you got there.
