Aww Lucas and Leah hugging at the beginning. I love her being a protective older sister.
Although I wished they would have been more affectionate I definitely understand this is how it has to be. Lucas simply being honest, apologizing and thanking Dillon was exactly what was needed for this moment. They have both been thru something so traumatic and it will take alittle time for their bond to rebuild but that hand holding and the way they looked at each other showed the love they have for each other and was a promise of loads more love down the road for these two. I’m glad Dillon remained being that light for Lucas. Both actors really did an amazing job bringing this storyline to life. 👏🏽 their onscreen chemistry has only continued to improve with every scene they do together and I’m excited for what’s ahead for them.
Dillon is so quick to forgive Lucas for putting him in hospital. I hope they don't have more problems with Carter and his weird group, I get the feeling that is not over yet. If Lucas is confronted by the group again I hope he chooses to be with Dillon and doesn't make any more dangerous decisions. I don't think Dillon would be so forgiving if it happened again.
It's Hollyoaks so someone will be kidnapped at some point and then something crazy will happen. No-one gets a quiet life for long in soapland.
That scene between Lucas and Dillon brought tears to my eyes - here's hoping they can have a happier future.
He and Dillon are so cute. I'm glad Lucas apologized and is accepting who he is. You can see how much lighter he is.
As for James... he doesn't like Ste's kids, he just tolerates them. I don't know how their relationship can be maintained. And in fact, it continues to amaze me how Ste and James are still married.

Oh my OA that scene with Dillon and Lucas was so amazing and beautiful I’m glad he finally came out of his closet to him and his Father finally. Poor Leah’s been through a lot losing her Mother, losing her Best Friend and now her Father’s being sent to prison again (which I still don’t think he killed Ella) still this is tragic for her she needs to listen to him and forgive him. I am hoping James will look after the Kids and he’ll take good care of them as well while Ste’s away I believe he can be a good Stepfather I know he always wasn’t the best Father to Romeo but I believe he can still be a good Stepfather to Leah and Lucas I even somewhat hope he’ll have a talking to Declan about what he did to Lucas as well. I heard Carter’s returning next week but only to kidnap John Paul and he falls for his trap I do hope he’ll regret this and he’ll still be redeemed and he’ll do the right thing by turning himself in afterwards and he’ll also help find Kitty. Lucas & Dillon - They’ll get together, just need to be patient. There’s still healing and rebuilding that needs to be done but it’ll happen.
James - James is terrible. He really needs to step up and assure Ste the safety of his kids. Lucas is very vulnerable right now and needs support but his dad might get sent away so James should really step up to the plate. I don’t know why Ste is still with him, James clearly doesn’t really care much about Ste’s kids, he’s selfish.

I hope in “hollyoaks” world Cater is still redeemable. Hopefully he sees the pain he’s caused (seeing himself in Lucas, with flashbacks to his past) and turns against Declan of course he’ll have to be let out on bail but that’s not out of the realm of possibility on soap world. I think the only way to deal with Declan is if his own followers turn against him

I swear James and Ste NEVER made any sense to me. Their relationship always felt so weird and heavily forced, in my opinion. As much as I love James, he is not the relationship type, especially not a caring family man like Ste and his kids need. It's so obvious that James doesn't really care about Leah and Lucas. He just tolerates them for Ste's sake.

I suppose the year they jump ahead in September will see Ste having served his year in chokey and James will have moved away. Lucas will have found his own Brendan and receiving a weekly beating. It is all a bit too predictable.

James is a very selfish person who cares for nobody in that family 😢 Ste can do better.

Honestly, the only reason James and Ste connected is because they share past struggles and that they were both trying to be better people.
Still, I believe that James cares deep down. His coldness was more of a habit and survival tactic he was accustomed to throughout his life. And as for Ste, well. He used to have amazing character development. I have no idea what those writers are doing to him.
James just washing his hands of all parenthood responsibilities, by basically saying the kids are big enough to take care of themselves, just made me start disliking him again. Now Ste is going to go off and do something stupid, because he feels like no one will be there for his kids when he's gone. It's bad when Warran is the guy he now has to go to, to take care of his kids after he's arrested, because he can't trust James to even care. Ugg. Dangit. I was starting to expect more from James, but I guess, I was being naiive.

Honestly, I don’t think James trusts himself to look after Ste’s kids, especially since he’s hurt Lucas before. I reckon he’s still scarred by Mac and is seeing himself in Lucas, the part of himself that Mac has taught James to hate all these years.

@@ChelseyLindenEven when James doesn't do that again, I still believe that to be a factor in James not being fond of Ste's kids, specifically Lucas. I do believe that James's selfishness and coldness has always been a survival tactic. Of course, that's not to excuse James's selfishness. And there are people who can be selfish for no underlying reason.
Reminds me of the Nature vs Nurture in my psychology class. Some things are explained by Nature (biology, genetics), while some behaviour is explained by Nurture (our environment and the way we're raised), and for others it's the combination of the two.
With James, a lot of it comes from nurture and how Mac treated him ranging from James coming out as gay to Mac's death. If Mac hadn't abused him, James would have most likely had a similar personality as Scott. I remembered that part from when James opened up to Mercedes about his past after Scott's suicide attempt (I believe that to be around 2017), telling her that Mac would beat him if he ever dressed as feminine.
That's why I also find that James's past (even long after Mac was killed by Breda in 2018) is still affecting him and his relationship with Ste.
And again, that's not to say that James's behaviour before and recent is okay when it isn't. James is a complex character. But I don't think James can look after Ste's kids, and as we can see, that is taking a toll on the relationship between James and Ste.

I've been dipping in and out of this show (via clips, never actually watched an episode) and having now a couple months plot summary, I think by now I'm safe in making the observation that there's a lot of very unlikeable characters here, even the ones we are supposed to root for. This Ste completely fails to impress me, and James in many ways is even worse.

Hollyoaks - why do you keep portraying every single gay relationship and storyline with violence? Not only that, why do you keep writing storylines in which the gay characters getting beaten up and abused excuse their friends/partners/hookups etc violence towards them? Why do you keep normalising violence as part of a gay relationship? It's extremely disrespectful but mostly it gives out a dangerous and damaging portrayal of a gay relationship to people when you suggest that the kind of violence you are showing is normal and acceptable.
They prey on old stereotypes for the drama. I absolutely agree, It’s not at all helpful to the gay community.

If Dillion was a woman that Lucas savagely beat would this cavalier attitude be the same? Lucas is an abuser and Hollyoaks is sending a message that if your abuser delivers a heartfelt apology then all is forgiven. While adults in the room understand the dramatization younger folks don't have the mental capacity to know abuse is wrong.

Why does being true to yourself mean you have to act out on being gay as in either be in a relationship or be sleeping around. I am my true self by choosing not to act that way i say let me be, and if Lucas came to that decision on his own without being groomed etc if he was taught that he should sleep around with guys or be in a relationship couldnt that be considered grooming too? A bit hypocrital if you ask me
First off, being gay isn't an act, it's a sexuality. Second, comparing who go against heteronormativity to grooming is getting old, don't you think?
But I do agree with you on one thing, that being your true self is more than just into being in romantic/sexual relationships. It is for some people, but it's not for everyone. Asexual and aromantic people exist as well, and are receiving little representation in media. There is not a single aromantic character in UK soap drama, and there was only one asexual character which was Liv from Emmerdale.
But unfortunately, people not being interested in romantic/sexual relationships is something that many people can't comprehend.

Dillon you deserve 10x better than Lucas and it sad that you create a young gay love story line that is based on physical abuse. Leah you’re right, Ste is a terrible father. He’s the most narcissistic selfish person on this show. Him being a father is only important when it’s convenient for him.
James loves to eat. STE does not trust his kids being left along with James. STE's intentions are good but he makes such bone head decisions. I can see this being the start of the Lucas being in a gay relationship. 1st Dillon then all the other young closeted gays that we did not know what gay Lucas will be having a relationship with. I would Love for Lucas to have a relationship with the little Black kid with the braids. That would so hot. 2 hotties together.
No sir. No ma’am. Cool that Lucas finally admits it but Dillon and him do not need to be together. Dillon deserves someone who doesn’t put his hands on him. It has happened like 3x, I believe. Lucas needs therapy. He has unresolved trauma. His mother’s murder and now his dad is going to prison for murder. Plenty of people who are/were closeted struggled but never put their hands on anyone. I don’t understand why HO needs to keep repeating DL stories and the guys have to put their hands on someone but we’re supposed to give them a pass because they’re gay and having a hard time. Lucas won’t be good in a relationship with anyone until he gets therapy. Dillon needs a good guy. What happens if he gets upset again about something else? They don’t need to be together at all. And I don’t see James caring for Ste’s kids. I honestly blame Ste for that. He didn’t let James discipline them because it was his kids and let them get all wild and now he expects James to be dad #2. Sure these kids have some agency of their own but if Ste had put his foot down a long time ago murder, violence, self harm wouldn’t never have happened. I honestly don’t understand why they got married. You need more than love to make a marriage and a family work. They never had that and I don’t think they ever will. James has an adult son who is in hiding. He never had to raise a kid. Heck, he never wanted children in the first place. Someone else needs to care for those kids and James and Ste need to divorce for real. They haven’t really tried and don’t think they ever will.
Yes Lucas has issues in the past, but what seperates Lucas from all the storylines you think are the same is, the rest weren't in conversion therapy. Lucas was a minor who was groomed by his adult headmaster. Lucas was taught that he was evil and going to hell just because he was gay. He was brainwashed into hating himself. Carter stalked him to make sure Lucas and Dillon stayed apart. It doesn't excuse the violence but it shows where hitting turned into attacking. An attack that happened because Lucas was clearly in emotional and psychological distress due to months of grooming. But Lucas regretted what he did immediately and he felt so bad that he self harmed. And when he awoke in the hospital his first thought was to find Dillon, and has stated that he regret what he did multiple times since. So he clearly is not like every storyline you've seen. Conversion therapy is it's unique storyline and it hasn't been done on the show ever. The guy who attacked John Paul was also subjected to conversion therapy. Also James never liked those kids and it has nothing to do with disclipine because James has never disclipined Leah, and now he's treating her like nothing. You don't grow close to step children just by disclipining them. And disclipining a child won't prevent a child from self harming if the parent never knew about it in the first place. But if you hate the character, you should probably just say that.
