I’m DECONSTRUCTING this TRASHED DRESSER for parts! (and making a whole new piece of furniture)

- I recently found a nice pile of trashed furniture out at the curb but this 6 drawer dresser is completely missing a bottom drawer and a few others are totally smashed - so instead of trying to make the missing drawer into some sort of awkward, out of place, shelf situation, I thought I’d probably be better off to write this one off completely and deconstruct it for parts. I do have a loose plan to make something NEW out of the dresser top though!

Ok this is BY FAR the most impressive and realistic faux wood finish I’ve ever seen. Fantastic job!
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
I was skeptical when you started because I've seen so many faux wood finishes and never liked them. But THIS is amazing and beautiful. First time I've seen a finish that looked so real. Nice job!
That faux wood look is incredibly realistic!
That's an amazing finish. That's truly one of those "trust the process" projects and it couldn't have worked out any better.
Are you kidding me??? Holy moly…..I didn’t hold out much hope when I saw the rubber “oak grain” maker, but THAT IS GORGEOUS! It really does look like a pretty white oak finish. Nicely done, Kate the Great! 😉👍👏🏻
Hi Katie, you are a GENIUS. I love white oak, and this looks amazing. Everything you work on, becomes the perfect piece. Dont ever stop your videos, I never miss one. Thanks once again, take care Gale💐
Love it. I was quite intrigued. Flogging! Who would have thought? Looking forward to your workbench creation. I am so happy to watch your videos. There's NO ONE like YOU, Katie!
It's just absolutely beautiful. What a great job!
Despite alllll those steps, the end result is worth it. You really unleashed your inner 'artiste.' One of your most impressive transformations.
Your faux wood technique is awesome. i love how you gave that dresser top a new life! Amazing as always
I'm blown away Katie. This looks amazing. Your patience with each step is to be commended. Love this piece and that you tore that old piece apart and will get so much use for it. So glad you are doing videos again.
I could watch you all day on repeat lol you're insanely talented and make this look super easy, which I know first hand it's not!
Uhg!! I have such horrible workshop-envy when I see your workspace!! So big, bright, well organized!! Room to store bits like this demolished dresser. Yup - definitely jealous! This was an interesting video: it was a great idea to reuse the bits, even if you can't reuse the whole dresser! [Edit: I shouldn't comment before I've finished watching... that wood effect surface was STUNNNNNING !!! amazing work!!!]
I agree about the workspace. I share space with my husband. No organization there
This is exceptional, Katie! With the colors, the layers, the techniques and the tools you used, you have created a gorgeous faux oak table. It looks like I would be able to feel the grain if I ran my fingers over it. It’s gorgeous and I hope you’ll show us more.🌸
Yes! It’s totally 3 dimensional and feels like wood!!!
Holy cow! Speechless! This was so fascinating to watch and it turned out amazing! Well done! 👏❤️🪄🔮
Katie I have been watching your channel for over a year now and I have binged all of your videos. Your work is magical. This faux finish is marvelous. You are an accomplished artist in this furniture flipping/creating world.
This is simply stunning. You have an eye and a creative vision second to none. This humble dresser top is somehow elevated to a piece worthy of a glossy magazine. 💖
Best faux wood job…this should go viral in the furniture flipping world 👏👏👏👏 well done!
I loved this!! What a great technique it's so real looking!! I didn't guess "it" btw I guessed let it dry not flog it again lol
Holy crap Katie! I love this!! You did a great job and love love love that you salvaged all of that great wood! No wonder you were so excited about this project! Congrats! 🎉
How perfect. What an interesting and inventive process on the top. You are a very good instructor. Thank you for bringing new techniques.
I kinda can't believe my eyes...this was mind-blowing. Simply amazing. I'm running out of adjectives. 😊
Wow! I was so skeptical, but that was an amazing transformation! Great job! And I also loved the part by part breakdown analysis of the deconstruction $$$.
Here in the South, it is 'pah-con', not 'pee-can'....the pee-can, is in the outhouse. 🤣 That table!!! You keep upping your game, Wowza❣️
I'm so happy I've found you're chanel. You are so talented and a HUGE help to me. This project turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!
Phenomenal! What a unique and satisfying furniture painting technique!
This faux wood is amazing! At first I thought, "no, faux wood looks awful. No one can pull it off well!" I should have never doubted you. Amazing as always!
This looks exactly like white waxed or white-washed oak!! I love it so much!!
This is crazy! It looks just like wood and is so gorgeous. Every time you try something new, I think that's not going to work. Every time it is better than I could have dreamed.
enjoyed seeing the deconstruction and how you scored big time. but you really hit it out of the park with the makeover. and i am obsessed with hairpin legs. LOL
great video! good content and your production values are appearing more practiced. You are now on my 'dont miss' list. (I dont have many.)
Lovely. Ingenious and imaginative.
The vision you always seem to have is just so fun....your $ tally of pieces from the dresser was great! You are a magician!!
Wow Katie, that faux wood looks great and I love the table you have turned it into, so simple and elegant. My husband caught me watching this and had to stop to see the end result too. I always learn so much from you. Thanks! 😊
Oh my gosh! I am amazed! Love how real this looks and love that light wood color. Remarkable! You are so talented!
Incredible wood look finish!!! Impressive work Katie!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏼🫂💐 love it!
It turned out absolutely beautiful 😍
Katie, that was so fun to watch. It came out beautifully. Looking forward to more!
What an interesting technique that produces incredible results! Bravo!
Wow, beautiful end result with this technique Katie....take care...
Amazing!!!! I am loving this technique! You are the best.!
You couldn’t guess it’s faux wood! Well done Katie! 👏👏👏
Such cool techniques to recycle that top!
❤ gorgeous, innovative, So happy you are back!!!!
This is a true artistic piece! You’re amazing 😊
Katie🌹, you are a Treasure.
Beautiful 🌹
Looks real Wood👍🏻
Some advice please. I tried this method and it looks great. I let it dry thoroughly but when I put on the topcoat (poly acrylic) the stain comes off😞. What am I doing wrong?
That sounds like your stain isn’t dry enough.
Spettacolare.bellissimo, grandi complimenti
you are amazing the piece looks fabulous 👌
Great job I'm going to try this technique 👌
Katie you nailed it.
You got a lot of great items to repurpose and it just didn’t go to the landfill
Katie, my mind is blown away! This turned out beautiful 😍
Once again you nailed it completely, love the finish and that you broke the piece down to use in future projects genius. This is something I would never have thought of and will make be look at prices in a new light.
GENIUS. I am binge watching some of your older videos on a Sunday morning and this transformation was miraculous! I love that you truly practice the philosophy of "reuse/repurpose/recyle"--that trashed dresser yielded many useful pieces, and I like that you pointed out the dollar value of each. All that material would have been wasted by scrapping it in the landfill. Fantastic job!
IMPRESSIVE!! I wasn't sure if you could make anything from that poor tired old dresser top. That table is fabulous!!! ❤
That looks incredible!!!!
Wow
😲 this finish is freaking awesome! Seriously so good!!!
My mom had a 4 piece living room set, natural solid blond wood, from the early 50’s (hutch, end tables and coffee table). Honestly, your finish is a dead ringer for it. Your technique! Unbelievable. You never cease to amaze!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your talent, Katie.
Absolutely gorgeous! You are unbelievable.... love the techniques you used and the final white wash was perfect touch!! Great video!!!
You definitely created a ‘wood’ out of laminate. Great job. I would never do all those steps, though. Way too much work for me. Guess that’s why I’m not flipping furniture for a living. 😊
Most people driving by : " Look at all that crappy junk .. My word !"
Katie driving by : " Hey , woo... jackpot ... look at all that good free loot !"
Right ? 👍
Some really good pieces of wood for re-use.
Incredible job Katie!
Wow! How have I never seen or heard of flogging??? Well, flogging furniture, that is. Lol Like other commenters, when you brought out the wood gran tool I thought this may be the first piece you do that I won’t like. Uh….no! It looks amazing.
Hi Katie, love your pieces! You’ve inspired me to try this out, but I’m having some trouble. The Behr water based stain looks great, until I go for that final white “glaze” and anything water based re-activates the stain and it all wipes away :(. Is the Fusion paint not water based? How did you keep the Behr stain from wiping away? Any help is appreciated!
Loved recycling while piece…
I cannot believe this is a faux wood technique. I watched your next video already on the dresser. It’s just instance how great this looks. I went to your amazon link. I found the graining tool. And a similar type brush. The one you have was going to cost like 36 or something. The one I got looks similar but was 10 bucks. LOL. I just want to try it!
Beautiful. Great job!
So creative! What a great technique-flogging. Who would’ve thought? Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve deconstructed an old coffee table made out of beautiful mahogany (it has a label underneath that says so). I’m not going to paint it, but I have to go ahead and order the legs now and finish it. This video gave me the inspiration.
Wow! That’s amazing!
Awesome breakdown (haha) of the furniture deconstruction and the most comprehensive instruction on a faux wood finish. Great job, Katie, and thank you!
Wow! I can’t believe how very beautiful you made that piece. I have 2 dressers with the blonde lacquer finish and have no idea what to do with them other than paint. I’m not brave enough to try your process so I will probably just end up painting them. Really though, that piece turned out amazing.
You are very creative! Did you take wood shop classes? Did some one mentor you? Is this a family hobby? I love your patience, something I don't have.
Wow, Katie! That was fantastic! That finish looks totally, 100% like wood!👍🏾👍🏾❤❤😍😍
That table is beautiful! What a great idea and what great technique to make it look like white oak. You’re clearly creative and talented.
In regard to the pronunciation of the word pecan, in Texas we have a saying about it. A puh-CAHN is a delicious nut you eat and also our state tree. A PEE-can is the thing you keep in the deer stand for when you need to go and don’t want to climb down. 😂
Incredible!!! I've never heard of flogging and now I can't wait to try out this technique. Thank you for all of your amazing talent!
Wow, that faux wood look is amazing! It looks so good. Have you ever seen Modern Makeovers here on UA-cam? He uses a lot of salvaged pieces of wood to create new drawer fronts, etc for his furniture projects that are missing pieces.
Hi Katie,,,so good to see you!
Wow girl you done an awesome job o this table!!
Just beautiful, I love it ❤️
God Bless my friend.
Ok Katie! This is insane. It looks just like me limed oak floors and I can’t even stand how good it is! We bought an older home and the kitchen cabinets are dinged up terribly! They need replaced. Or do they…🤔 I think I’m going to be doing this technique on them and see how it turns out. Absolute perfection! Thank you so much!!
Looks incredible! Well done
That flogging is a great technique, I can’t believe how realistic that faux wood looks! Amazing.
Omg Katie, you blow my mind.... amazing job on this table..👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️
Again greetings from Quebec,,,, what I am blown away with is how far you are coming as an artist that is probably one of the best techniques I've seen yet..... And it would be interesting to see what other colors you can create with it as well..... I ended up with a freebie dresser and I can't wait to show you the pictures when it's done I took inspiration off the plum dresser that you did.... I might even give it's a shot instead....
Videos were amazing in the beginning but you're honestly taking it to a new level
Looks awesome. I love the legs and glad I got to see them in real time. I just re- did a coffee table top that had seen better days and was indecisive about which legs to purchase. I have the same legs in my wish list o Amazon. Think they look amazing! Thank you for the wonderful video!
Well done turned out brilliant.
Wow !!! It looks so realistic
I love love love this ! (I was searching through your videos trying to find it again.. so glad I did !!) Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see you do it again with different color combos (although it'd be hard to beat this one)
Wow I like this. I used the graining tool on my dining room table, and I'm not loving it. So, I'm actually going to redo everything and use your method for the top. Looks great.
Like a Boss! Like very much this new direction you present here. Your experience is very evident and I love it. Thanks for sharing your work.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ plan to do it myself on a dresser. You’ve got an eye for detail! This is perfect for a small hall 👍🏻
I love this video. I love the deconstruction, salvage part. Love your faux wood. Very nice.
Lovely and terrific outcome! BTW: What kind of BRAD NAILER do you have?
Wow, it looks amazing!
😍
i saw the Shorts video of the wood grain thing for this and immediately subscribed
i’m OBSESSED with this
This redo was amazing. I've seen several people use that woodgrain tool and it's looked horrible, but you were able to make it look so natural with the other top coats layered on top. Amazing. I too like the light oak wood finishes that are trending now. I hope I can find this video again when I move and redo the side tables in our new home. New to us, not newly built!!! Thanks so much for showing us how this is done the proper way.
