    If you use a personal cutter only for these edible prints it should make cutting out shapes faster and easier while maintaining cleanliness. Try the Brother Scan 'N Cut. It can scan a shapes and then cut those out. It also functions as a personal cutter like a Cricut. If this were a business you're running it can streamline things for you.

    Thank you Karolyn, this was very informative.
    Just a note, printers have a function to 'clean the heads' which you could probably do (haven't worked with eatable ink) as well to stop the heads from clogging and ruining your printer.
    How to do that, should be in your printed owner's manual or on the display menu in the printer as well.
    Stay safe.

If you don’t mind I want to ask you a question: for how long could we store the image before remove the clear cover and where we keep it? In the freezer inside airtight container. I’m asking because i printed the image today at Walmart and want to use it 2 weeks later . Greetings from Florida USA 🇺🇸.

      I have never put these on a cheesecake before. I don't see why you couldn't do it though! The only thing is that you don't want any condensation to form on the cake, which can ruin the image. So that's why I like to put it on a fondant backing. It helps protect it!

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  3 роки тому

      You want your printer that prints edible images to be non toxic. Regular printer ink is toxic to consume. So if regular ink has run through the printer system, it's very difficult to clear it all out. (Think about it, would you want to eat an edible image that may have residue of toxic ink on it?) It's just safer to keep your edible printer and your regular printer separate. I did post a video on a new printer I got from Icing Images. It wasn't very expensive for the whole system and it works great! :)

    Hi! I had some images printed at a local cake supply store. When trying to get them of the backing my images stretched and ripped at the corners🙀. Your sugar sheets seem to be a lot more manageable and thick. You could handle them and add glue and everything. The sugar sheet I purchased was very thin and I would have not been able to apply the paste and all that. Any tips for the next time I have to use printed images?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 роки тому +2

      The type of icing paper that is used is very important. Sometimes the cheaper sheets can tear and not hold up as well. It's worth the investment to get good ones that are easier to handle. (I get mine at Icing Images, there is a link in the description.) If you're purchasing a printed sheet, you really don't have a say in what kind of paper they use. In that case, you need to make sure to keep it protected from humidity and heat. You may be able to buy the icing sheets online and take them to the store and ask them to print on your sheets instead?

      Piping gel is usually made from sugar and cornstarch. It is sometimes called edible glue. I've also made edible glue by adding some gumpaste mix to water. I think the piping gel is best, but that may be because I'm so used to working with it.
      As for your sticky paper issue, are you in a humid climate? If so, there could be some challenges. I believe I filmed this video in the warmer months, but I always keep my house cool to keep issues like that under control.

      You don't need to refrigerate the edible images until they are ready to use. You can prep them ahead of time, just make sure that if you're putting them on the side of a cake that you dry them on the side of a styrofoam cake dummy or something with a curve to it so they won't crack when you put them on the cake. Hmmmm, I have actually never tried adhering it to chocolate, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. If it's too hot, you will have issues with it getting soft and / or melting so you have to be careful with that. But if you put melted chocolate on wafer paper, it may mess it up. You only have to run the test pages on an edible ink printer. This is because the edible ink tends to dry out and clog the print head if you don't consistently have the ink running through the system. With regular printers, that's not necessary.
      And I started making cakes for friends and family. And those friends would take my cakes to their parties and the people at those parties would start ordering from me, and so on. It mostly spread slowly by word of mouth. But I happened to get into this before the cake craze, so by the time cakes became popular, I had clientele. It's kind of like how if you started a UA-cam channel in 2012, it was much easier to grow than it is today. It can still be done, it just requires a little more time and effort!

      The best place to store them would be in the silver foil envelope that the icing sheets come in. (I always save those so I can store images.) If you use a regular plastic ziplock bag, they may be prone to dry out faster. So I don't recommend printing until a few days before you need them. If you want to store printed images and don't have the foil envelope, I recommend wrapping them in plastic wrap, sticking them in a ziplock bag and leaving it at room temperature. No need to refrigerate them. In my experience, it stays fresh and the color stays vibrant for weeks if wrapped up correctly!
