Thankyou for your video. Can I just ask, how long can the image be placed on the cake & be left in the fridge for? Can I decorate the cake & put the image on & leave it in the fridge for 24 hrs?
Hello..i have a doubt wether this is a wafer type edible paper? I bought an edible paper for the cake and even though it is mentioned as made with sugar it tastes sugarless and similar to wafer. It needs to be applied as same as you have shown. Hence i wanted to know if the paper you use is as same as mine.
Thank you for this! My friend has a birthday coming up and I’m going to be trying out an edible image for the first time. I’m excited now, you make it look so easy!
Hi Marta, Thank you for your comment, sure you can find my buttercream recipe under my gender reveal post. www.bakewithmel.com/how-to-make-a-gender-reveal-cake-using-mms/ Also to prevent your buttercream from turning yellow, try using white vanilla extract its clear and it won't discolor your buttercream. I hope that helps. 😊
Hi, did you place the cake in the fridge after you placed the image on the cake? edible images are refrigerator safe, which would minimize any bubbles.
Thank you for your kind words!! add a small amount of purple food coloring and it will neutralize the yellow tone. Please be sure to add the purple food color in very small increments so you don't throw the color off. I hope that helps 😃
Does it make the cake taste weird? I was thinking about getting one to put on my daughters cake but she is real picky and didn’t want to spend that much to do that and it not get ate. Thank you
so glad you found that tip useful, depending on the filling you are including with your cake can make the layers unbalanced by putting it in the fridge for 10-15 min makes it so much easier to crumb coat and to smooth out the cake.
Hello, it wasn't very clear in the video and I may have missed a step, but did the top come that way or did you have to cut it? Any answer would be helpful. Your cake looks adorable.
Hi, yes it came that way as I purchased it as a 7.5-round edible image or icing sheet as it's also called. You can print any image yourself using edible ink and a printer designated for edible images only or purchase an image on etsy and sometimes amazon. I hope that answers your question.
What kind of frosting do you use? I use butter and crisco in mine and I notice the crisco will turn my cake holder greasy. Will the greasiness harm the edible paper?
Hi Diana, Thank you for your comment, I only use butter in my American buttercream but a very high-fat content like French butter, Kerri gold is good as well as Finlandia. I hope that helps, The greasiness may breakdown the edible paper a little faster but make sure the cake is well chilled before putting on the edible image and it should be fine. You may want to do a test first before putting on the real image to be sure.
What texture is your image? I just got some and they don’t seem to melt into my cake. It just taste like I’m eating paperZ and yes I removed the backing lol
Hi, they typically don't melt into the cake, some people do remove it before eating but usually, it tastes like icing. For your image did you use wafer paper or sugar/ icing sheets. It definitely makes a difference in taste.
you can whip your butter for about 10-15 min that will help to get the yellow out of the butter and make it white, you can also add a small and I mean very small amount of purple food coloring to take out the yellow.
i personally haven't tried it with whipped cream so I am not sure. From doing a bit of research online from sugarshack.co.uk Various frostings can be used such as buttercream, store-bought frosting, icings, fondant, whipped cream or non-dairy topping, fudge, chocolate, and even frozen ice cream cakes. Buttercream and fondant will produce the best results, whipped cream or non-dairy topping can cause the image to fade a bit if left in the refrigerator overnight; the consistency of whipped cream is thin therefore the edible inks tend to sink into the cream.
I would suggest, if you want place print on whipping cream..place on crumb coat. After doing all other frosting job place the print and do borders. Also, try to use the cake asap after placing the print
I think she’s talking about putting it in the fridge after you do the crumb coat, before you do the second layer of icing and then apply your image. It just makes sure that you lock all the crumbs in so they don’t show through your second layer of icing. After second layer & applying image, you can leave the cake on the counter it doesn’t have to be refrigerated. That’s what I do anyways. Hope that was helpful!
It's actually icing sheets. when I looked it up online, Icing sheets are made of a very thin layer of icing pressed against a backing paper. The backing paper allows the printer to feed the icing paper without issue. The backing sheet can be made from clear plastic acetate sheets or gloss-treated paper.
Thankyou for your video.

yes, you can! I have done that on occasion and nothing happens to the cake or the image.
You did not show how to lift edible image off of the backing without tearing it
Thank you so much for this video! Very concise and to the point. Also your buttercream looks AMAZING!
Thank you so much!!
I was thinking the same thing.... Buttercream looks AHHHMAZING

Thank you so much for the video. Easy to follow steps. I didn't know to cool the cake between frosting layers and it was a game changer.
Do you have to peel off the back or anything?
Thank you very much, can i store in fridge after finishing.
yes, you can store it in your fridge, that is the preferred method that I use.
Some people say you can only use edible stickers on fondant cake
Can we keep inside refrige after applyong the image on to the cake?

Hi, did you place the cake in the fridge after you placed the image on the cake? edible images are refrigerator safe, which would minimize any bubbles.
I confess no I didn't as I was worried the moisture from the fridge would make it happen 😳
How do u get the edible images??

How do you get it this white buttercream
Wow, what a beautiful cake, I wonder if you need some cake toppers to decorate it?
Does it make the cake taste weird? I was thinking about getting one to put on my daughters cake but she is real picky and didn’t want to spend that much to do that and it not get ate. Thank you
No not at all, it doesn't have a weird taste in my opinion, you can also do not have to eat that part when you cut the cake.
Is this American buttercream or smbc pls
No fondant on back of images?
Normally I apply a thin layer of fondant to protect the image
Oh my goodness this video was so helpful. I never thought to put in fridge in between frosting layers

How can the edible image stay fresh after 24hours .I did put and it's shrink .
What type of frosting did you use? I typically use American Buttercream with my edible images or put the image on fondant and there was no shrinkage.
Can i put the cake in the fridge with the wafer print on top and i have also decorated the edges.
The image is on an icing sheet and I typically place the cake in the fridge after decorating the cake.

Can i put it directly to the icing? Whip creme icing and non dairy?
I have tried it on an ice cream cake and I did not have any issues. So it should work on whipped creme icing as long as it's smooth.
Hi, which buttercream have you used for this cake? American or Swiss? Thanks xXx
I used American buttercream but you should be able to use swiss as well with no issues
Your pictures don’t melt on your cream please ?what kind of cream did you use please ?
This was an American buttercream
So you don’t need to attach it to fondant?
No, not at all it can be attached right on to a buttercream cake with out using a fondant backing.
